So Nige claims two players he had targeted this season ended up signing for Premier League teams. I've looked through the transfers from 1st July until present and, not counting players signed from Europe and high-end Championship players who have gone for big fees (eg Charlie Austin), I've narrowed it down to the following:

James Maddison
Rhoys Wiggins
Bradley Pritchard
Steve Harper
Ben Godfrey
Matthew Foulds
Regan Poole
Michael Hector
Ivan Toney
Jake Kean
Ollie McBurnie
Shay Given
Mark Bunn

So...how many of those would have transformed our season?

Only one on there I could see is Ben Godfrey. He was playing fairly regularly for York.

Most of the other youngsters listed weren't playing much first team football for their parent clubs despite being in the same or lower leagues than us so can't see it being them.

Ivan Toney perhaps? Although it would have been foolish to go for him as he was linked with the Premier League all summer.

My guess is Jake Kean as it wouldn't cost a lot for the club to put his name on the back of a shirt. :)

As crazy as it seems I think one may have been Sam Byram (on a loan deal).

Just something Adkins said a little while ago made me instantly think of him. If there is any truth in this too then his targets are way unrealistic at this point in time.

Another in the endless series of posts imagining something, pretending it's true, and then criticising the manager, the club, the board, anyone.

Is everything really so rosy that we have to make stuff up to be critical of?

I'm hazarding a guess he was a target off of the fact the quote was pretty much something along the lines of.. ''The player wasn't getting into the first team (Byram due to contract uncertainties) get's back into the first team. Plays well, from there he hit's the ground running and get's a move to the premiership (West Ham)".

Name me another player who moved to the premiership this window in similar circumstances. I bet you couldn't

You're wasting your time, R_22.

And if it was - a player not making the first team is a "way unrealistic" target?

It is if it's a player who has been earmarked for a call up for England and could walk into any other championship side in the league. The only reason he was benched was because of his uncertain future at Leeds. Anyways I said in my very first post, 'IF' being the keyword if he was a target for a league one club then yes i'd consider that being a tad unrealistic.

I think our chief scout and manager need to sit down and meditate on the following:

Why the f*** are you wasting your time trying to sign players who have signed for clubs two divisions above us?

Dan Burn is another. It's no wonder we can't sign anyway.

Here's an idea: Let's start targeting players who are actually attainable.

Although I understand how difficult it must be to find better than what you already have when you're a mid table third division club who have better resources than every other club in the league.

If we're targeting players who are signing for PL or even Championship clubs our scouts and management must rate our current players extremely highly, or they are totally incompetent.

Dan Burn - gets himself back into the first team at Fulham and on his way to Stoke?

If he really was looking at players who have nabbed a move to the Prem then he's wasted everyone's time when he should have been out and about finding two big dirty 3rd division fuckers to play at c/h.

Unrealistic? Clould cuckoo land.

What I should have said is you may have had more of a point than I first thought.

My faulty reasoning was I know bugger all about Division 2 "reserve" team players therefore everyone else knows bugger all about Division 2 "reserve" team players. You clearly know a lot more than I do about this stuff.

I suppose we'll never know for sure who these mystery players were.

Hopefully we'll get a chance to judge recruitment in the loan window - and obviously over the summer.

To be fair our scouts do like to travel abroad about once every 10 years. Maybe they were due. No doubt we're looking at the same players as Borussia Dortmund though.

To be fair, I was disappointed we never looked at Tom Nichols from Exeter - although admittedly I knew nothing about him until the FA Cup game against the Scouse. The fact he went on to sign for Peterborough in January suggests he should have been within our price range, and is a young, quick, talented, tricksy winger / midfielder. Exactly the kind of player we need. What's the point looking at high-end Championship / Premier League reserve players who are going to absolutely drain our wages budget?

When are people going to realise that there was never any intention to sign anyone !
This is just Adkins bullshit !
Just as we will not sign any loan player from now till the end of the season - say something to placate the supporters then do nothing - it's the Adkins Way !

Don’t know much about some of them but Maddison and Toney would be interesting. Young players with sacks of potential.

... and 'lo, within three hours, proven incorrect.

Now to hope that we've actually managed another decent loan signing, rather than another wage-sapping waste-of-space.

Perhaps my posting galvanized them into action Onwards and Upwards as they say !!!
