So yesterday, with my Dad and a Huddersfield fan, we did something I always wanted to do, but never had - 2 games in a single day.

We arrived at Barnsley at about 11:15 and headed to the Metrodome - despite not being in colours, cops told us that were only place we could go. Having arrived in a massive hall, one was to find four - yes FOUR! - people serving pints, despite there being several hundred people there, and a bloody huge queue. We gave up on that, rather frustrated we hadn't drunk in the town centre passing as non football folk, or even at Chapeltown where we parked one of the cars. Got to the ground, had a pie, found our seats, and watched a very comfortable away performance for United.

Dad likened it to beating Bradford at Valley Parade when we were in the 4th (long before my time :D ), but it was a great atmosphere, and we seemed 10 times more up for it than they did.

At FT, we made a hasty retreat, we were parked by the sixth form college, the only delay was the fact a train were going past, so we couldn't cross the tracks. Despite all the barricades, as discussed on other thread, both fans were together while stood around for about 5 minutes, so there were some inevitable low key comings together. Police tried to shift us into the train station, despite us making it clear that was not where we wanted to go. Fortunately train went (was it going to Shef? If so, should it not have waited 5/10 mins???), and we raced back to the car, and made very good time down the M1, and onto the A61. Parked at a friends just above from Hillsborough, and we were on the march to match number 2.

Pigs V Udders were a dire game, although actually Wednesday got the ball down a bit more than Huddersfield. Wells were shocking for Town, Coady was about only one who tried to play football, but it never really came off for him, and the fans seemed to get on his back, rather than reward the attempt/effort. Ibrahimovic look a like missed an open goal having rounded the keeper in the first half (hilarious), but when Wednesday scored, it seemed a fair enough result, until a bit of luck and shite defending saw the otherwise terrible Ishamel Miller through to equalise with a minute remaining. Walked away feeling like a win.

So there you go, thought it could have been a Sheffield Double of the worst variety at the start of the day, but saw a brilliant away performance, and t'Pigs denied very very late on. Top day :D

NB: Huddersfield fans sang exactly the same songs as us (including 'Can you hear the Dingles/Wednesday sing, I can't hear a fucking thing'), and if I hear 'Everywhere We Go' within the next day or two, I might strangle someone...

'Everywhere we go' is an awful song, and it seems to be in vogue at the expense of some of our older songs.
It's because it's been a big success on a lot of away matches. Not an original Blades song by any stretch, but tailored to United it works pretty well.

billyblademan sounds like a good day out!

One thing though, why've you got Cardiffs manager as your avatar? Is it because he sold us Brayford?

Thanks billy bladesmad. Just one thing though, why do you start the report with the word "So" when it's not necessary. I've noticed a lot of people doing it lately, verbally and written ?

I know it's not a threat to world peace but I'm curious

It'll be like a thing. It's just so whatever.

Keeping it real and down with the kids since 1968. :D

I think "everywhere we go" is AWESOME!! we've finally got an up tempo song. Away fans sing a continuous fast paced song to get their side going and we used to combat it with a slow monotonous chant.
Look it's a faze, last year it was "shoreham boys", the year before was "red and white army", before that
"The city is ours", they come and go.
We are blades men etc won't go away- we just like to latch on to new songs for a season or so.

I did it back in the 80s, took a Man U fan with me to Leeds for an early kick-off, seem to remember we drew 1-1, maybe Peter Withe ? and then on to Old Trafford, they beat Southampton 1-0, Mark Hughes if memory serves when they were on their winning streak at the start of the season.

The good old days when you could just turn up to games if you felt like it on the day !

It's informal - puts you in the middle of events. It's a stylistic choice. Innit?*

*Which, thinking about it, I haven't heard for a while.

Easter Monday 1992. Went with my Norwich mate to watch Wendy 2 Norwich 0 and then we went over to Meadow Lane to see us beat Notts County 3-1

January 2004. Rotherham 4 Norwich 4 (my son and I left the match when Norwich were winning 3-2 so that we dont miss the 5.30 ko at the Lane) Blades 3 West Ham 3 ( my Norwich mate and his son left Millmoor at the end of the game and missed the early goals at the Lane)

I agree it's a phase, I just can't stand the song. I was delighted to hear 'Barrel of Money' at Oakwell on Saturday, haven't heard that for a while.

Glad they were on his back - he can "COME HOME" next season - just like the beard.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing - we SHOULD have pushed the boat out for Coady.

Have a feeling he knows where his heart lies and it is NOT at Huddersfield.

I've got a mate that finishes most sentences with "so" (in effect he uses it instead of a full stop), which is the most annoying thing ever as you're waiting for him to continue what he's saying and he's actually finished, so:mad:

Might as well offer a metrosexual take on the word so.

I've got a gay friend, very old school and can just about remember what it was like to be homosexual just after the 2nd world war, so he has very different views on life as a gay male long before the word homophobic and anti-gay legislation was introduced. Apparently, during the 1940's, and for several decades after, it wasn't uncommon amongst gay males to enquire about another male, "Is he so?", as in 'is that guy gay?' I think the term for gay slang was polari.

Language always faces some type of corruption or, unfortunately, bastardisation, over time. For instance, I find that there's a less respectful attitude towards elder members of society, which is not to suggest that someone should stand on ceremony in the face of a senior member of society just because they're old. What it does suggest to me is that manners have suffered, even deteriorated, over the years. Maybe it's me, but I've noticed that there's a tendency to dispel with certain courtesies, replacing them with what I can only describe as abrupt over-familiarity.

Only 2 games in a day, with a bit more ambition you could have got 5 in!! It was non-league ground hop day on Saturday, around the Barnsley area. You could have got the first hour of the Emley game ko 10.30am, other games were Shaw Lane (although went passed Wosborough at 2.55pm and they were at home, so that was an option), (I think) Parkgate and Penistone (at 7.30pm). Added bonus, no visit to the sty and probably have cost you less in admission cost (although petrol would have more than made up for the saving!)

How many Blades fans have partaken in snuff or smoked a woodbine :)

Snuff a couple of times - horrible - there was a snuff mill in Hunters Bar, is it still there? Walkers or summat wasn't it?

Have had one or two Woodbines, literally, as I have never been a smoker - I remember the tobacco getting in my mouth as they were unfiltered.

Can't recall ever having a pint of Magnet - just not been in the bars I have frequented - mostly Wards, Stones, Tetley's pubs in my youth.
and as HB says, probably had more chip butties to compensate :)

I have, to both. I nearly sneezed my eyes out on the snuff, ans tried Woodbines when a teenage smoker and we were working our way through one of every packet GT News at Banner Cross sold.
