BfS, have a like. You may be deranged, you may be a wind up merchant of the highest order but I'm right behind your sunny-side-up post. Christ knows us Blades have had a hard row to hoe over the years but some of the negativity on here has been a bit much. Obviously we are doing badly at the moment but there is still time to turn it round. We are a proper club surely, not a bunch of plastics baying for the head of the latest scapegoat.

The manager, the coaches and the players are having a tough time and must be low on confidence. I shouldn't imagine Weir is sleeping too well at the moment. From what I've seen and heard I think it will come right and I'm more optimistic about the future at BDTBL than I have been for some years.

At what point in the history of football did 'sack the manager' become to default solution to any football related problems?

Has it not proven time and time and time again that a trigger happy club is also a club that moves backwards?

cheers pal, deranged maybe, def not a WUM! Let's just get behind this fella and the kids he's brought in, if he fails he goes but all we can do is give him the best platform possible to succeed. COYRAWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I don't think we're all out of sackings just yet. Maybe 3 more short-term, panic sackings might do the trick. I mean, it couldn't have been any worse than Warnock, then Robson, then Blackwell, then Adams, then Wilson, then Morgan could it? I think if we sack DW, then clearly that will be the moment it all comes good for United so the sooner the better, perhaps we can get some PL experienced manager in now that we're richer than astronauts etc etc repeat until United fades.

But is that simply because they fire the managers too often, OR perhaps it might be because they keep hiring the wrong managers, which is what gets them in a mess in the first place, and therefore end up having to then fire them.

Let's be honest as far as I can remember we all thought Weir was a good appointment, just over 3 months ago. Not long is it?

Hardly enough time to work out where to put all your pens and pencils in that big new desk, let alone turn around the fortunes of our club, at a time of great decline, with probably the worst squad in recent memory.

Patience is a virtue.

"The best investment the Prince can make right now"...

Give Warnock a three year contract as "Head of Football" and put in him in total control of the football side.
Allow him to choose his own manager, coaches, scouts and other backroom staff.
Give him and his manager funds to strengthen the squad with a few key loans and out of contracts immediately.
Allow him to recruit heavily again in January and pay off contracts to reduce the squad if necessary.
Don't try and impose a certain style of football on the management team that might not suit our circumstances.
Don't interfere with who he wants to sign or "help out" by persuading old mates to sign up on big contracts.
Stick to the three year plan, subject to signs of steady progress and improvement being made.

Given Warnock's proven track record of success, you can almost guarantee that we would be in a better position within weeks and a much better position by the end of three years. Review the situation again at that point.

No, that's the very worst thing he could do. In fact, it wouldn't even be suggested anywhere but prehistoric, parochial S2.

Whether the Hoofwaffe like it or not, the club is, quite rightly, trying to drag itself into the 21st century. Sadly, many supporters are struggling to get to grips with the 20th. It's the Bladesfans' Way.

Both the Chairman and CEO have made it crystal clear that we must change the ethos of the club and rid ourselves of our well-deserved but shameful Hoofball reputation. In those circumstances, do you really expect Warnock to be asked to return? Why on earth would our wealthy new co-owner, steeped in Premier League and Fantasy Football, have the remotest interest in Ol' Big Nose? He's finished, just like Dinosaur Dave before him.

Whether DW stays or goes is nothing to the point. it is of fundamental importance that the commitment to proper football, the football played by all the best teams and known universally by professionals as the 'right way' is maintained. Warnock has no place in that scheme of things. Thank Pele for that!

You really are a cretin, never mind the hoofwaffe we are sinking faster than the Kreigsmarine guided by Weir Admiral Donetz.
I can't make my mind up if you are a WUM or you really are so deluded as to believe anything other than tippy tappy across the back four is hoofball.

What took you so long? Did you forget how to cut and paste?

We didn't have a "shameful" reputation under Bassett and Warnock.
If we had a reputation at all it was that of a team to be reckoned with, even by the best teams in the land.
What is our reputation now? Does anybody in the media even care about us any more?
Has anybody noticed how much our ethos has changed? Who are we trying to impress?

Our new owner wants promotion to The Premier League in five years.
Nobody is better qualified for that task than Neil Warnock.
Even if he had no connection to the club, his outstanding track record makes him the obvious and best choice.

I've never heard our new owner mention a preference for any style of football.
Maybe he saw Warnock's QPR team play attractive, attacking football on their way to The Premier League.
Maybe he's been shown the Triple Assault Dvd and fancies a bit of that excitement?

Either way, I can't imagine he's been too impressed with the "right way" we've played recently.
Judging by the way you're suddenly distancing yourself from Weir, neither have you.

Good idea. Not red n white flags though. Just white...

Good OP. Nice to see a bit of positivity. I don't believe you are in a "dwindling minority" in wanting to stick with Weir for a while longer. I suspect the majority think it's reasonable to give him more time. It's probably just that people jumping up and down demanding change tend to be louder than people calling for patience.

Well what we seem to be doing at the moment is getting rid of fairly successful managers and replacing them with pillocks!

We got rid of Blackwell but his record was good with a 42% win record and a pts/game of 1.56. We replaced him with Gary Speed whose win record was 33% and a ppg of 1.17 and replaced him wih Adams with a win record of 16.67% and ppg of 0.71.

We reset the crap-managerometer with Wilson who achieved a win ration of 51% and ppg of 1.85 and then sacked him replacing him with Morgs whose win record was 28% and ppg 1.14. We then dispensed with him to be replaced by Weir who so far has achieved a win ratio of 12% and ppg of 0.5.

See the pattern? So we get relegated from the prem, find a manager who gets (boring) results, just misses out on promo then sack him to replace him with two who were pretty useless get relegated and blow me its happened again.

I suggest therefore we are better with a results orientated manager that does relatively well than a fuck arse poncing around playing passing football for the sake of it and can't win a game against 11 men.

They want Blackwell back! They really do! Go on, admit it. Have the courage of your primitive but heartfelt convictions.

I'm sure HRH could use part of his fortune to prise the Semi-pro, non-league, reserve goalie from........,relegated Bury.

I work with an Everton fan who knows quite a few people in the club, he made the Everton shortlist and impressed their board. Ok maybe within a whisker is stretching it but my point remains the same, he's clearly intelligent, articulate and widely knowledgable, has massive playing experience and is well connected. It's not gone great for him so far but I think he is turning it round, I think his team will gel and I think he will be a success.

I agree with most of your sentiments.
But.... he is in a dangerous position at the moment what with new investors on board.
Another month of this and he could be gone only to have learned lessons and be a success in another environment.
He's walking on eggshells at the moment.

He's better do it soon. Moving to another League two club might not be an attractive proposition for Blackwell.

Let's keep Weir! I for one cannot wait to see us pass the ball around in our own half before Morecambe get bored, take it off us and thrash us out of sight.

Perhaps we can also give that Scottish 4-6-0 formation a go while we are down there. Why bother with forwards? Not needed!

No-one in their right mind would want Blackwell back but two things are raised by this.

First, as we all know, Blackwell was sacked at the wrong time. Be it earlier (at the end of the previous season, or immediately after the play-off defeat) or later (I doubt we would have gone down if he'd stayed), either would have been better than letting him rebuild the side over the Summer then sacking him after three games.

Secondly, we have finished progressively lower in every single season since Blackwell left. Why? Hangover from his reign? Surely it wouldn't have lasted this long. Poor choices for Manager? Perhaps, but most of the really terrible managers were in and out during the same season Blackwell started, Speed and Adams. Personally I think it's partly due to the chaos of all the chopping and changing but mostly due to the continual running down of the quality of the squad, a process that started under Blackwell and was at least part of the reason for the dire football displayed under him.

I write this unsure of what the Wolves match may bring on

I am convinced we are a powder keg waiting to explode

COYRAWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It fizzled out two years ago 11 point non detonation, and last year we never even had the explosives material. I know young players are sensible if Weir cannot motivate them then it’s time to go. Take an example of an Italian CPT leave the sinking ship first so that the crew can save themselves. I hope he can do it as changing managers after every set back is also not the answer.
