Isn't it amazing that in a cup that had only been going for 30 years, and only 13 years after the football league started, that 100,000+ people went to watch a football match

Fuck all else to do really. No TV, iPads, social media, credit cards, mortgage rates etc. You got a job and generally knew what you had coming in for the next year / decade and what you needed to put on the family table each week. Any extra went in your pocket for a drink or a bet. Simpler times. It had it's positives.

In some ways it hasn't changed. I work, travel round a lot overseas, come home and on pay day the missus (a Yorkshire lass) does the books and tells me what I have to spend. She and the family are well looked after. I get enough to keep me happy and a drink.
