I never thought automatic was feasible - we're mid rebuild at best. The dream scenario was staying within sight of the top two due to a lucky spell with injuries/suspensions and massive overperformance, before adding the right players in January to give it a real go. People got carried away after a good start and are now predictably roaring about a few defeats.

We’re a mid table side sooner everyone accepts that the better, why anyone’s wants to get promoted is beyond me.

Premier league money / parachute payments spent on transfer fees and wages, is why Harmer, Cooper, Soutter, Anel, O Hare play for us and not Millwall or Bristol City. It’s also why we can afford to turn down anything below market value for players like Arblaster. Never getting promoted would see us become a lower championship, upper L1 side like Weds or Millers

Painful as that was when the door opens you go through it. Three more years of prem money / parachute payments guaranteed. It’s unfair on other Champ sides but that’s the way it is. Some Weds fans thought it was too soon for them to get promoted a few years back and then they were relegated to L1 and are now at their mid table ceiling

Leeds, Burnley, Sunderland, Norwich, Luton, boro, Blackburn, West Brom and hull are all capable of finishing above us.

Boro have already beaten Sunderland and West Brom. Luton are not exactly on fire. We have already beaten them and Hull. On the evidence of the last 2 games (no goals scored) we could be relegated; on the evidence of the season so far as a whole, we are capable of winning promotion.

That’s only 9, we are in top 6. We’ve done alright. We are as good as most in this league. We’re not getting pumped every week, we have been in every game for me apart from the Leeds one.
