10 games, 20 points.

Keep that up over the course of the season, then we will end up with 92 points which will take us up as Champions.

If we fail to go up this season, then it might not be a bad thing, given the squad we started the season with, and the need to build a new squad, and if we don't go up this year, i can see us being stronger next season.

Sorry don't agree with that, if we are looking on course for promotion come january we will have more chance of keeping hold of quinn and monty etc. If we don't look like going up or don't go up full stop we will lose what quality we still have for sure and for half the price, then we will replace them with players like porter and flynn ie players we can afford. Not going up this season would be a disaster IMO especially with the start we have had and players we have managed to off load.

Blades top six!!!! another day at Wembley and this time it will be our day!

God, the thought of another POF makes me feel physically sick already.

Even if we did get into one and won it I think I would still feel sick - given all the times we have blown it when the stakes were higher.
It would be scant reward and feel like a consolation prize at best.
Not sure I would want to be royally shafted by the FA on the cost of yet another Wembley appearance either.

Whatever happens, don't kid yourselves that staying in this league will be anything but an utter disaster (if not more disgrace).
We may be a bigger fish with a bigger turnover BUT we will also have bigger overheads never mind the playing staff.
It costs far less to run Huish Park, as an example, for a year than BDTBL and all the facilities therein.

The only player I would currently consider hard to replace is Quinn.

Personally not worried about anyone being sold at this moment in time.

I'm of the belief that you dont require a great deal of quality to succeed in this league.

The ginger dynamo aside, I dont think losing anyone would severely weaken us.

I'm speaking in terms of quality obviously, if we let four go and didnt replace then thats a problem.

Not sure that Quinn is that irreplacable.
He is too good for this league, for sure, but then you need a few more players on his wavelength to gel.
He appears to be having less of a critical influence on our games though - whether that's because he is being targeted or whether he is getting cheesed off.
He was providing the majority of the chances early doors but that seems to have dried up a little. Certainly, from the matches I have seen, I agree with Keith Edwards - who stated that Quinny is over elaborating before he delivers to the forwards - taking too many touches when in a good position to cross. The consequence is that the strikers make a run, then check, then go again and they look foolish when the are caught offside or on their heels when it is finally delivered.

If we are out of the play off places by Christmas then Quinny will be off - deffo.

Thing is - even with Quinny out there, we still lack any real pace to break and counter attack. If we did replace him we would need a lefty with pace to burn and a great cross on him. They don't come cheap.

You make him sound irreplaceable :)

Seriously though, my smart arse comment aside I agree with most of what you say.

I consider Quinny the only one difficult to replace, rather than irreplaceable.

Mainly for the reasons you outlined; very few quality lefties at this level / affordability.

I know it will sound biassed but I really dont see the pigs up there. I fancy us as champions with Preston second.

I don't agree that United would need to do this. Evans, Taylor, Simonsen, Williamson and Ertl’s contracts all expire in Summer 2012.
That's another 5 big earners off the wage bill, along with all those we sold/released/sent back this Summer.
We may not be able to sign any replacements of note so that's why we need to retain and nurture the Development/Acadamy players.
Don't forget our turnover is amongst the highest at this level and is unlikely to drop next season due to the 2-year deal for STH.
The Financial fair play rule should mean that we get to be a big fish in a small pond with a trimmed wage bill still higher than most of our rivals.

What's more, I don't think there's a high earner on the books who couldn't be better replaced at half the cost. Next year will bring loads of opportunituies for cutting the wages AND improving the team.

Without an injection of pace, it's play offs at best for me.

....while the defenders who at the ideal time of crossing may have struggled, have time to get back, get comfortable, in position and ready to challenge our forwards when the ball finally comes. There can be occasions when it's good to have someone putting their foot on the ball, there are also some occasions where you have to exploit the opposition being off guard.
