Both this and the £20m is brilliant gamesmanship by the club - they'll be delighted by these headlines.

The majority of us know when entering negotiations not to show the other side your hand. Telling the world we have a budget of £50-60m results in a very different conversation with Man City regarding Doyle.

I get the theory, but in practice I don't think it would work unless we were the only ones interested in a player. And if we are, I'd question why we're the only ones interested. Otherwise pleading poverty isn't going to work when someone else comes along with deeper pockets.

For me, it was a dud announcement to stave off hungry agents and clubs thinking we have access to millions following promotion. I highly doubt we have as little as £20m. The Prince and the team will just want to pay what players are worth rather than Sky high prices like we have done prior.

I personally think it all needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. I don't see why anyone at the club would release this information other than to keep the fees down. Make out we haven't got any money after all the reports of investment/takeover

There’s no doubt we will be contacted by loads of agents offering us dozens of players who are allegedly worth millions…pleading a very tight budget might be one way can keep transaction costs down We hope.

Seemed to start well, then disappeared for months without making a single appearance.... despite being on the bench pretty much every game. Bizarre stuff. Can only assume he's not Jose's cup of tea..... and watching him recently suggested to me that he's not being allowed to play his natural game - seemed to be playing within himself, simple passes, few runs forward

But this below par spell at Roma makes him more attainable for us. If he'd excelled, he'd be signing for them or maybe someone near the top of ligue 1

Stick him RCM in our team and let him off the leash and I think he'd be quality. There are a few of this type and that's one reason I'd be willing to let berge go

If hecky came out and said we have 100m to spend then making low ball offers wouldn't fly, if we're reading 20m then all the selling clubs are as well, hopefully it isn't 20m but I can see the reason why they would say it was

I'm not saying they will lower the price but if the selling club think that were cash rich they're less likely to accept a final offer

If $20m is right, my to do list would be:

Sell Lowe to fund a new LB (and let Enda go).
Bring in Doyle hopefully for $10m.
Use the other $10m for Choudhury (optimistic?).
Get Macca back on loan.
Loans/frees for a striker, LCB, and maybe a keeper.
Get RND and Brewster back fit.

Throwing money at Ndiaye and Berge to sign new contracts with reasonable sell clauses if we get relegated would be the number 1 thing on my list though.

Indeed. The bank wrote it off. Not the club, who had full use of those millions without having to pay it back. Completely different to our situation.
