Trying to maintain an interest in the Royal Wedding the thought has struck me, David Beckham never played against us. Is he the most famous player to have played in English football but didn't play a match against us?

Got to be some from the 80s. Dalglish? Rush? Hoddle?

Arguably better players than Beckham but none can match his fame which is mostly from off the field.

Dalglish - League Cup August 1978
Rush- for Chester in 1-1 home draw in 1979-80 and for Liverpool in early 1990s
Hoddle - for Spurs in both matches in 1977-78 season and for Chelsea when he assisted Mark Stein's winner in May 1994

I'm obviously not as old as you :D

Missed an open net in front of the Kop!

And didn't we give him some stick for that.

Suppose he got his own back in 2002/03 when he was involved in the takeover at 'in administration' Leicester and they dodged a points deduction.

Eden Hazard won't have played at the Lane.

World Cup winning captains that have played at the Lane ... Bobby Moore, Daniel Passarella, Lothar Matthäus, Didier Deschamps.

The two best batsman in World cricket to have played at the Lane ... Donald Bradman and Geoffrey Boycott, in reverse order obviously :)
Yorkshire's greatest ever cricketer was Wif Rhodes.... by a mile.

Matthaus for West Germany u21s?

Maybe so, a great bowler without a doubt and a very good batsman, but as far as batting is concerned not a patch on Sir G, hence the term 'best batsman' :)
