Assuming that Adkins is still the manager next season, what are your predictions on what he will do in the Summer?
I.e. Who will he try to retain, who will he allow to leave, how many new players will he try to sign?

Based on the decisions and signings he has made in his first season, I predict the following:-

Squad for next season (Still under contract):-
Goalies:- None (0)
Defence:- Brayford, Basham, Freeman, K.Wallace, Done (5)
Midfield:- Coutts, Reed, Scougall, Woolford (4)
Strikers:- Sharp, Adams, DCL, McNulty, DDG (5)

New contracts:-
Goalies:- Long
Defence:- McEveley, McGahey (extension)
Midfield:- Flynn (extension), Whiteman
Strikers:- None

New signings:-
Goalies: - New GK
Defence:- Edgar, Baptiste
Midfield:- New MF, Hammond
Strikers:- New CF

Final Squad for next season
(not under contract in bold) 22 players
Goalies:- New GK, Long (2)
Defence:- Brayford, Basham, Edgar, Baptiste, McEveley, McGahey, K.Wallace, Done, New LWB (9)
Midfield:- New MF, Coutts, Hammond, Flynn, Reed, Whiteman, Woolford (7)
Strikers:- New CF, Sharp, Adams, DCL (4)

Will try to offload:- Freeman, Scougal, McNulty, DDG

Contract expired:- Howard, Willis, Collins, Harris, Kennedy, J.Wallace, Baxter, JCR, Cuvelier, McFadzean, Sammon (11)

I'd be happy with most of that. I'd be a bit iffy to re-contract McEveley over a year.

The new keeper does need to be serious competition for Long, not just a backup.

We need two midfielders. I wouldn't sign Hammond. I'd sacrifice the LWB for two decent midfield creators and scorers. This is where the most investment and hard work in recruiting needs to be. We need a fuck tonne of cash to buy in a good box-to-box general of the MIchael Brown mould and a flair player of the Glyn Hodges ilk. The first one just grafts for eighty five minutes, is injury resilient and comes off with his shirt muddy and a yellow card. The second one someone who can stop the ball, pick out the runners and make the opposition have six in the wall at a free kick because it can go anywhere up/over/round them.

The front man - we need a Chris Porter who can run, jump-to-head-the-ball and prove difficult to get the ball off. Some one also who understands where Sharp/Adams/McN/DCLs is when the ball is pumped long into the box for the second ball.

It'll be very disappointing to see us sign Edgar but with us needing to strengthen in so many other positions I can see us being lazy and signing him.

Baptiste could be a great signing if his fitness is up to standard.

Hammond could also be great if we want someone to restrict our midfield massively and get some yellow card records.

Thought he played well on Saturday, as he slowly gets his fitness back.

well if we really have this
Final Squad for next season (not under contract in bold) 22 players
Goalies:- New GK,Long (2)
Defence:- Brayford, Basham, Edgar, Baptiste, McEveley, McGahey, K.Wallace, Done, New LWB (9)

we really have under performed this season ,if we only bring in the 3 we say we were always short of

Can't see Baptiste signing. Only signed for Boro at the start of the season and will be on big wages. Not too bothered about Edgar, but I don't see who else we are going to get that is better.

If Adkins wants to continue pressing the opposition high up the pitch, then I can see Coutts being offloaded as well.

We need a Chris Porter? things are worse than I thought........

One, or perhaps both, of Adams and Sharp will be sold this summer.

There's my prediction !!!

I don't think 3-5-2 is a long term solution, just the best option with the current squad but I guess another LB would be necessary too. Wouldn't be overly happy about Hammond staying though. We really need a goal scoring midfielder and a new winger too.

Agree with Dronnie blade re Adams or Sharp its the blades way. I would personally be disgusted in both Adkins and the board if he signs his failed loan players we need hungry League 1 and good League 2 players not 15k per week journey men.

Flynn and McGahey's contracts shouldn't be extended. Hammond, Baptiste and Edgar all need releasing too, I'd be very disappointed if any of those were to be kept on. I have a very strong feeling that voices coming from the club and manager as well as smokescreen results on the pitch will sway most of the fanbase into accepting more and more players contracts being extended. Then we're straight back to square one when everyone starts playing shite again first game of next season.

Baptiste needs releasing?
You do make me laugh with your comedy basics...

Goo on then, what I'd like to see.

Final Squad for next season (not under contract in bold) 22 players
Goalies:-New GK,Long (2)
Defence:- Brayford, , New CB, Baptiste, New CB, New CB, McGahey, K.Wallace, Done, New LWB, (9)
Midfield:- New MF, New MF, New MF, New MF, New MF, Reed, Whiteman, (7)
Strikers:- New CF, Sharp, Adams, DCL (4)

Can't see Baps being here so if we're playing three CB's he'd need replacing also...big job.

All the best.

Yeah -

" ... we need a Chris Porter who can run, jump-to-head-the-ball and prove difficult to get the ball off. Some one also who understands where Sharp/Adams/McN/DCLs is when the ball is pumped long into the box for the second ball ... "

Actually, that's not Chris Porter at all, is it?

:)

At 32, I'd still take Jon Stead on a freebie.

Baptisite had a great game Saturday, as he slowly gets his fitness back. A 100% fit Baptiste would be good for any club in our league.

Looks about right to me;

but if this is to be our midfield next year, then that new MF is going to need to be Frank Lampard in his prime to make up for the lack of goals & assists from the rest ;)

Agreed, we need goals coming from midfield as well as the front two. and if we sign another striker, it has to be someone with a consistent 15-25 goals a season, to back up Billy.

You’ve just described Dean Hammond. Just that he does it all in slow motion.

“The second one someone who can stop the ball, pick out the runners and make the opposition have six in the wall at a free kick because it can go anywhere up/over/round them.”

You’ve just described Jose Baxter when he’s not high.

I think the issues is we need a combination of the 2 CMs you suggest to partner either Bash or Hammond. I’m sick of players who can only do part of the job. I want to see an energetic box to box midfielder who can run, tackle, pass, score goals etc. Someone like Conor Coady, Michael Brown, Phil Jagielka etc.

I’d settle for something like this. I’ve given examples of the type of player I’d like for the new recruits though they might not all be gettable.

GK

Long

New GK- Vigoroux (season loan to allow Ramsdale and Eastwood to mature for another year)

Def

Brayford

Baptiste

New CB- Nathan Cameron

Basham

Wallace

McGahey or Edgar (McGahey cheaper and more likely to be happy as back up)

Kelly

New LB- Nthle

Mid

CM- John Lundstram

2 X New winger - Hammil and Kent

Coutts

Hammond (let’s face it, this is happening regardless of his limitations)

Reed

Whiteman

Done

Att

Sharp

New CF- Matt Smith

Adams

DCL

De Girolamo

So our team would look something like

------------------------Long

Brayford—Baptiste—Cameron--Nthle

Kent--------Hammond—Lundstram—Hammil

-----------------Sharp-----Smith

Subs:

Vigoroux

Wallace

Basham

Coutts

Done

Adams

DCL

With Kelly, Reed, Whiteman, De Girolamo, Hallam, Wright, Banton, Semple, Adebowale, Brooks etc. as the further back up.

9 new signings including Baptiste and Hammond. 7 brand new faces. Out go the following 14 to make room for them

Howard (release)

Kenney (release)

McEveley (release)

Freeman (if we can find a taker)

Harris (release)

McFadzean (release)

JCR (release)

Scougall (if we can find a taker)

Wallace (release)

Flynn (release)

McNulty (if we can find a taker)

Edgar (loan ended)

Sammon (loan ended)

Woolford (if we can find a taker)

Could see the likes of Willis, Coustrain, Cockerline etc. possibly being released if they are out of contract too.

I'd want 3 new defenders and an entirely new midfield. Rest I could cope with. Might consider getting Keogh as he was such a good foul for Sharp:

G: Long, Willis, Eastwood, Ramsdale
RB: Brayford, Freeman
LB: e.g.Spurr, Kelly
CB: e.g.Wood, e.g.Beavers, Basham, McEveley, Semple
CM: e.g.Sawyers, e.g.McGeehan/Moncur CM, Reed, Whiteman, Brooks
RW/LW: Wallace, New RW, New LW
CF: Sharp, Adams, 2 from Done/McNulty/Keogh, DeGirolamo, Calvert-Lewin, Wright

I'd happily do a Warnock and take three ex-Wendies in as well!

Doubt Matt Smith would be in budget but would take him if so. Dan Burn likewise!

I would rather have the geese next season than most of this shit.
