Going to be very interesting to see how S/T sales hold up now. The price reduction's to be appreciated, but I'd think there are many out there waiting for signs of how the club proposes to dig itself out of this enormous Division Three hole.

A decent gesture (albeit an essential one in the circumstances), but where's the strategy? To be made up on the back of a fag packet between now & the time of the fans forums?

The strategy has been extensively repeatedly and consistently presented hasn't it?

My only slight/nagging concern is that:

A: This be used as an excuse not to spend anything next season

I'll be £6 a month better off, which I welcome, but it's only £6 isn't it? It's two pints a month.

Reductions are great, but it's not a big enough reduction to make us all forget that we're still in League 1 and that we've massively underachieved these past few years. What I mean is, they can knock a few quid off season tickets, but that won't halt the anger from us lot if this board don't significantly back this manager over the summer.

You don't need to spend big to get out of this shit division. Many teams have proved that. You just need a group of lads that are organised and consistent with a bit of pace and quality to provide the goals. I'm hoping we're scouring the UK and beyond to find such players for next season, and if we pull any punches in the transfer market then McCabe blames it on ST reductions, he'll be sticking his cock in a wasps' nest.

Where would we rather be, highly inflated ticket prices and challenging for promotion to the Premier League like in S6 or 10% better off facing another year in League 1?

How much is 10% of our season ticket sales? 10000x £450 = £4.5m and 10% of that is £450k.

£450k is a good player's wage. Let's refuse the deduction and donate an extra 10%.:)

Well they had to do something, been a dreadful season. The price on my stand still seems very steep being £387.00 for the quality of football we may end up watching again.

Must have missed it somehow, mate. Are we talking about Jim's "three transfer windows" (as latest manifestation)?

Any/All of Adkins recent interviews. From memory:
  • playing through the thirds
  • getting crosses in
  • attacking football
  • pathway for the youngsters
  • players who can play 40 (I think the number was) games a season
  • a smaller squad - but all potential first team players
  • defining a Sheffield United player and recruiting accordingly
  • (related) having a consistent style throughout the club from youth to first team
and a few other things besides.

The funny thing about fans forums is when the so called clappers see the anti McCabists queuing up at the end of the night to have their picture taken with their arm around Kev.

I think this is excellent news from the club. The already 'reasonable' prices have been reduced further and 10% is a fair discount to recognise the fans frustration with performances. That means if I have calculated correctly an adult renewing on the kop will pay the princely sum of £12.52 per match. The club have also responded by arranging to meet various fans groups.

Of course for the serial moaners on the forum none of this is good enough. I can hear their brains cranking into action, 'they done what! How can I make a negative out of this'.

Had the price remained the same they would have complained, had the price gone up they would have complained. Had they ignored the fans and not agreed to meet they would have complained. They are serial haters of the players, the club, the Desso pitch, young players, old players, Adkins, McCabe, everything United.

Do you know what, if we were in the playoffs, 'we ought to be in automatic'. If we were 2nd 'We ought to piss this league'. If we were top 'I cant believe we lost to....'

Serial moaners, serial haters, nothing is ever good enough. Never happier than putting the club down, and spouting bile and invective!

Don't get me wrong this season isn't good enough but some people really do need to get a grip or do one.

Right, that's better......:)

Absolutely.

And it's gestures and threads like this that really bring that out.

Am I reading this right?

We have someone on here who wants us to donate an extra 10% rather than take the 10% deduction this season?

I'm no Nobel Prize winner, but us paying more doesn't guarantee Sheffield United promotion, it just makes us 10% lighter in the bank balance.

Am I reading this right?

Any/All of Adkins recent interviews. From memory:
  • playing through the thirds - that is how all football is played
  • getting crosses in - again, nothing new, it's how a lot of goals are scored.
  • attacking football - again, how football is played, you have to attack to win games
  • pathway for the youngsters - except when the more experienced players become available, then they are inexplicably dropped
  • players who can play 40 (I think the number was) games a season - Dean Hammond will be our first signing
  • a smaller squad - but all potential first team players - Fine, if they are players of the right quality. Sharp is. Woolford, Hammond, Sammon and Edgar shouldn't be first team players.
  • defining a Sheffield United player and recruiting accordingly - what does that even mean? A Sheffield United player is someone who represents the club. Most of the ones Adkins has brought in so far haven't been good enough.
  • (related) having a consistent style throughout the club from youth to first team - Good. Let's hope we stick to it, although the amount of times Adkins changes his system I'm not confident we will.
and a few other things besides.

I think that's an issue which really needs addressing. The price gap between the Kop and South/Family stands is far too wide. You can save £99 by switching to the Kop, which I can imagine is a very tempting saving for some. I might consider swapping to the South stand in a few years, but only if the price is right. The view is good, but it's not £99 extra good.

Which is all very good a far as it goes (& they are all, genuinely, fine goals to have as well as proper ones). But Adkins has failed miserably to get anywhere near his own targets. He ought to be sacked IMO - there's very little prospect indeed of him being capable of putting worthy plans like these into operation in the situation he finds himself in.

And the wider question of how we go about getting out of this division - the most important one - remains hanging. As do those about funding, squad rebuilding, potential player sales to raise money (to buy, or just to operate), etc.

A bit of realism & honesty from the club wouldn't go amiss, as opposed to the usual cloak and dagger stuff.

As regards the price reductions though, I'm all in favour & think it's a decent gesture after a season like this just gone.

I doubt ten thousand people pay £450 for their ST. You won't for example as a senior, unless you're in the executive seats.

I used to think they'd only be happy if we were Barcelona, but they get it in the neck too :)

Comment: It was the fourth time in the season when totally stupid decisions of Luis Enrique cost Barca a lot. Firstly, in the European Super Cup against Sevilla he made substitutions and from 4:1 it was 4:4 in 30 minutes. Secondly, the starting of Rafinha and Sergi Roberto in midfield caused a disastrous result of 0:4 in the first leg of Spanish Super Cup at Bilbao. Then, the foolish withdrawal of Alba and bringing Matthieu to left back position again Deportivo in La Liga caused rapid equlizers from 2:0 to 2:2. And now, a comfortable completely dominated match was utterly reversed after Matthieu, who really cannot play for this Barcelona at this technical level, and Alves, who is enough responsible defending, entered on the pitch. The coach is very good in motivating players, resting them, improved set pieces and increased the intensity of the play, but he can be a real liability because of his stubborness; he keeps the same mistakes on and on. Only a fool keeps doing the same mistakes.

Reply: Yeah, 8 point lead in the league, in the final of the Copa and through to the 1/4 finals of the CL, the season after having won the Treble. He's obviously a fool of the highest order.

Most of the moaners aren't Season Ticket holders at a guess.

Big Willie. I think we have a section of supporters who will criticize / complain about EVERYTHING, NOTHING will ever be suitable in life.
Unfortunately, this affliction shows itself on all football forums, not just S2. They are trying to make complaining for complaining's sake, not just a malady, but now a work of art.

I'm immune.

The contention was strategy would be made up on a fag packet between now and the forums. Whether it's realistic or whatever it's there and it's loud and clear.

McCabe, the Prince, and Adkins are all, er, united together in how they want to take the club forwards.

Never say never but I'd be amazed if Adkins was sacked - almost no matter what. I can't see that it's even remotely possible. There's a (relatively) long term plan in place: the owners have decided to entrust him with rebuilding. I think it's the right decision.

Anyway. Thanks to the club for the news on STs - but I really want to see progress on the pitch.

On the one hand "serial whingers", on the other "clapping seals"

or

On the one hand those pissed off beyond tolerance with where we find ourselves, on the other those admirably remaining upbeat & positive against the odds.

No need for us to be insulting each other. (We can save all that for the board ;))

I'm certainly not in a positive frame of mind over on pitch matters but then again I don't feel the need to make the same negative points several times every single day on various threads.

No point in Lydon writing anymore, i'll only be using different words to convey the same message as quoted.

I do think it's an interesting phenomenon. It happens on other forums in other walks of life - some of which you'd've thought would be utterly benign.

I think you have to be careful when you start amateur-psychologising but...I do wonder if this sort of thing previously played itself out in private - eg going home and kicking the cat. Now you can go home, bash on a keyboard and vent your spleen - and the cats of football fans sleep more soundly in their baskets.

Maybe the RSPCA has data on this.

...Thank heaven for footy forums...

Always happy at paying less. Going to take advantage of the free direct debit this year because I don't see why the money should be sitting in their account instead of ours.... my form of petty protest.

Don't know what the fan forums are going to achieve. If the individuals from the club attending don't already know what our frustrations are, then they aren't football fans.
