Crossed wires, vorpal. Faulkner's was the shithole you refer to on Cambridge Street. My 'experience' with Mr. Ganley was the snooker club above the Limit on West Street - that's the one where they had the qualifiers. He had rubber gloves on. I think Michaela Tabb had just started refereeing.:D

Let's hope for a re-rack.

Who killed Liddle , did you kill Liddle, police killed Liddle towers , used to have that record myself ,
With the letters cut out and pasted onto cover of sleeve , cockney rejects copied that style for there own records I believe .
War on the terraces , and all that .
you're a bad man ;)
we missed the upstarts matinee and so tried to get in the later one.. no chance.. good job really we were just kids

Hi all, I had to join your forum just for this topic if nothing else! Been reading the site for ages and usually post on BladesMad.
However, having gone through this topic I must know half of you - brilliant!
Before the matches we used to start in the Minerva and then up to The Nelson....then the Pump and the Landsdowne or maybe the Social Club under the South stand.
We used to frequent the Wap on Friday & Saturday nights. Went off to work in Devon in 1976 after leaving school and ended up as a cleaner! Started at 5am and on the first morning was greeted with ''oh no, what the Fu ck are you two doing here?'' It was Dave who worked at the Wap/Grosvenor and had landed a job as night porter....
Gary Green opened two shops in town in the early 80's buying and selling gold trinkets and did very well. Left for Thailand over 25 years ago and the last thing I heard (which was a long time ago) was well settled.
Great drinking days back then in Sheffield. OK the beer was shocking but the pubs were good fun.

Welcome mate. Always good to see a new (old) face.

Ive got Who killed Liddel Towers on 7 inch vinyl ,been told its worth a tidy sum as it is very rare with an etching of a copper and hello hello hello on that shiny black bit near the middle of the record. And yes they did. Having been with the Blades on the infamous 'nightmare in Chester le street' when the locals gave us an interesting night after a game at Newcastle ,you can see why the cops don't take prisoners with some of the headcases up there. Hardest town in the Uk with Farnworth and Ferrybridge in my experience.

I have that as well, nice to know it is worth something, I have ton's of old vinyl

I have to say that this has been one of the best, most enjoyable threads (for Blades of a certain age) that I have read in ages. We should revert back to this if results on the pitch go wrong!
Great old pictures, great memories, great old pubs.

Thanks Grafikhaus for reminding me he was called "Maltese Joe", was trying to remember that.

Cairo Jax! I'd forgotten all about that.
Cavendish turned Baileys then into Romeo and Juliets ,then into Cairo Jax. Once puked in a girls mouth smooching to The power of Love during the last chance bum squeezers ,saw her a few weeks later apologised and took her out ,classy.
Silks opened up after Cairos and was the bad lads meeting place after a match on Saturday. Wendy were always supposed to be 'on their way' but only once showed up and soon buggered off again.

I reckon this was meant to be Julie Driscoll. Anyone know for sure?

Great photos! Not 100% sure if it is Julie Driscoll, but looks like it might have been done by the same artist that did those pics in the Nelson of Joe Cocker, Hendrix, Robert Plant etc.

A couple of other clubs from back then. 'Isabella's' on the corner of Matilda Street/Eyre Street (now a chicken takeaway). Right at the back of my mind is 'Tramp's' but I can't remember where it was. (I typed Tramps night club sheffield into Google images and a few pictures of Ched came up. Honest!) Also, what was that club on Moncrieffe Road, Nether Edge?

Queens Road? May have been before my time, I remember the Heartbeat - could never get in- which became Samanthas

Turn ups was my local along with the Brincs :). First nightclub for me was Samanthas which became Stars ,next to the silver blades. Also had good nights at Sinatras ,spoilt by that pig Stevie Splash and Kikis ,you could always trap in there.

Maybe it was Heartbeat, Bert's memory has the occasional malfunction.

Not seen maxis mentioned.... full of George Benson / Luther Vandross wannabees. We used to drink in the Cremorne pre match when Jason ran it, pub full of Jocks but reight laugh. Madhouse!!

What was that club in Dronfield called Climax ? ,it was OK but a bit clicky. Another great club but a nightmare to get to was Fannys at Owler bar.

Annual last match of the season pub crawl back to Droncilvania would meet in The Bridge at Heeley then White Lion, Red Lion, Crown, bus up to the Chantry, Woodseats Hotel, Big Tree, Abbey, Norton, Greyhound in Dronny the The Rock Tavern and Bridge till fall over time. Start in a Bridge and finish in the Bridge unfortunately neither of which are with us now.

Sharpy and Mick Cardwell country

Think Broadway or was it Down Broadway was on High Street near the Blue Bell
Down Broadway was in High Street, downstairs just next to Bell.
Saw Jethro Tull there in 68 ( I think?) 10 bob to get in, robbery in them days!

Soul nights were better for the flange that frequented those gigs though.

The King Mojo. Bert can't remember it.
