CONFIRMED Clough Sacked

These sackings will cost the Board a fortune and they also have 5 ex-Derby players who will be unsettled. We might just have an ambitious Board at last. It cost a fortune to install Clough and all his cronies as well as to dismiss them.

The coming appointment will speak volumes.

I hope it's a manger to lift us 2 levels, not just one to get us up one step. I hope it's a manager who has a track record of signing good players, playing positive football and encouraging the team win or lose.

Over to the Board. Not Morgan please, please,no.

Suggestions: Paul Lambert, Warburton/ Weir duo, Gary Rowett, Stuart McCall, Karl Robinson.

To be truthful Clough didn't do a bad job, when he took over we were on the brink of being relegated and finished 7th two cup semifinals and in the playoffs this season, ok he has made mistakes who doesn't, I personally don't think it's the right time for him to go we needed stability as a club and chopping and changing managers doesn't produce this and who's to say that the new manager will do a better job and get us out of this league?

He's not particularly likeable, but we want promotion, so we shouldn't sneer too much!

He ticks the boxes for experience & sustained success. He also has the size of personality that is needed for this job. OK, opposition fans (and a lot of our own) will hate him, but we also had that with Warnock. We could do far worse.

Brian deane has done well in Norway.
Personally I'd like Warburton with a new number 2.

Wouldn't it have been mutual consent and not sacked if it was a fall out?

Not sure how it all works, but maybe a fall out was the last straw and the board just had enough with him, it just makes no sense waiting two weeks if not, as even if you have no one lined up then you still sack the manager so you can begin the process of appointing someone earlier

stupid stupid decision

Lets hope its not . From the board meeting , i think it just comes to some very basic fundemental , common sense , school boy errors of CB , Midfield and CF . Its taken the board a lot of soul searching , and perhaps the list of players he was after , they had the foresight , that perhaps money could be wasted . We all thought Clough was the man , with no board statement being made .

They have shown there intent - We move on . Not sad but this now is shit or bust for a new era.

I'd have personally given Clough till Christmas but there we go...

Who are the options (I sense a poll coming!) :)

Adkins - Done it before in this division (cue Billy Sharp rumours if he does come!)
Brian McDermot - Think he is still out of work...
Warburton - Obvious choice but would he have better offers?
Big Sam - No thanks, not sure he would come anyway
Karl Robinson - Seems to have a soft spot for the Blades, would he see us as a better long term option?
Mark Cooper - Coukd he be tempted from Swindon?
Lee Clark - Did well in this division but not great in the Championship
Darren Ferguson - Similar to Clark...

I'm sure there are others... Any of the top 3 for me...

Lambert still out of work

Robinson wont come now he's taken MK up and has the opportunity to manage in the championship

Lee Clark.....no ta

Big Sam wont drop down to Lge 1 and said yesterday he's having a long holiday and won't be on his way back until at least Xmas

Adkins for me

Woody , It shows the boards intent , if they are willing to pay off all the staff ( does it include Morgan ) . Although pro Clough , my spirits have been lifted.

you wouldn't take big Sam?

So long and thanks for all the fish...

Not much arguement against the sacking, Nigel failed in his stated aim..just hope they've got someone lined up...I'd prefer Adkins...but we might get Rossler...or someone totally out of the blue..( Danny Wilson again lol)

I for one would like to thank NC for some of the best times we have had in the last two years, the FA cup run that took us to Wembley, the league cup run that had us playing Spurs in the semi final, unfortunately a let down in the league, all the best to him for the future. For us I hope the board employ someone with ambition, let's hope that the better players we have don't follow.

Rosler has gone to Leeds hasn't he?

They sure know how to start a week.....surprised by this, but there again very little about professional football surprises me.

So, I've already read calls for stability within the club, kind of reminds me of what was said when Clough was appointed. All manner of questions occur to me, will Brayford want to stay? Will a new manager be expected to deliver promotion in his first season, or will it be a season of transition thus ensuring this and next season in Division 1? And so on and so on.....

I suppose it does reveal that cut throat realism now exists within the club, and that a manager must achieve, not come close to achieving. I felt Clough might be savvy enough to learn from last season't mistakes, but we'll never know now. Time to move on, get behind the new guy, and hope we see significant improvements where it matters, on the pitch.

I sense this thread will gather pace as the day moves on. So, Up The Blades, as ever, perhaps ambition behind the scenes finally matches the fine words we've heard far too often in the past.

I was 50/50, we need stability but we also have to get out of this division and there's no doubt he underachieved with the resources he had and the position we were in around November.

Another big decision for the Board and at least the new boy will know what he has to do. Interesting to see how Brayford and the boys react.

It is mate but don't pay too much attention to them because if memory serves me right the bookies haven't been too good at predicting our last few managers immediately after a sacking.
Fingers crossed. If the board do not have someone impressive lined up their credibility to run the club is on the line.
