working on a late bid after missing targets! Yeh same old.

Don't want to start the meltdown but failing to sign a recognised striker and gambling on scottish youngsters to develop is unacceptable from NC, the board and out scouting network.

Still think they had put all their eggs in the Ched basket and that's held us back for 2 seasons by making do or scratching around for developing players or cheap options until they thought they could get him back into the team.

Rant over, hope they prove me wrong but very nature of Jims "late bid" says we are panicking again

Just who should we sign ?
COG was a done deal until Hughton changed his mind and wants to keep him
Doyle was target No2 hes gone to club a division higher than us (more wages I would presume)
We do need a striker as we all know, but we dont want to be signing one thats no better than what we have

Agree PV we don't want to panic buy as we did with hippo and end up with a liability. BUT the work should have been done earlier, it's unacceptable that since NC arrived we have failed to sign a recognised striker. What team can expect promotion without a recognised striker? We should be a club of choice for strikers given the size, resources etc

It wouldn't be as painful if Jim didn't keep blowin smoke up the fans arses with expectations of 5/6 targets

PS don't call me camp

Can't get too upset, bought the beard which will be a massive boost to the squad, Coutts is another good signing. People can say same old united but we've genuinely been unlucky, Doyle got a championship offer, Bradshaw injured and Hughton going back on his deal with us for O'Grady. However Che Adams has given us another good attacking option for now. Hopefully get a striker in on loan with no recall.

You say this then everything else you write points the other way. At least put both feet in one camp man.

Oooeerr.
Didn't wanna start the meltdown I wanted to be heading to the bog with a box of tissues after a big signing of a striker. Takes the edge off Brayford (£1.5M) for a fullback to lead the team and we ain't got a frikin goal scorer!

Have to stop typing, left arm pain increasing! Need brown paper bag

Meanwhile the pigs despite all their takeover upheaval sign a new striker as easy as piss, we just fook about all the time. Anyone else think Brayford was only signed to keep the fans happy ? Two and a half years later and we are still no closer to getting a striker, too busy waiting for fookin Ched.

Have some faith. Just under 6 hours still to go.

Quite right Pat, and as for taking the edge off of JB's signing, you need to be made of sturdier stuff 56, we're in this division so anyone of ambition is not going to need a great deal of time to compare the relative benefits. Yes, it's disappointing, but so is being in division 1, get over it, it's a long haul not easily handled by those who suffer attacks of fragility.

Hate to be pedantic but the unclean have signed somebody on deadline day. If that was us we would be complaining that it should have been done weeks ago. And what Knowledge do you have that it was easy?

Let's have a bit of balance unemotional balance

We had the rug pulled from us with COG due to Hughtons last minute change of mind, so the work was done
You say we have not signed a recognised stiker what are Higdon and to a lesser extent McNulty
I know Higdon hasnt been very good but he did have a decent scoring record
I dont know why we should be a club of choice for good strikers, theres 24 Championship clubs that can offer a bigger
step up and bigger wages than us for a good L1 / L2 striker

Higdon was a panic buy that will never make the grade and McNulty was a development player not a recognised striker.

Well put string, that's about it, rather than concern because someone has signed a player that we 'should' have signed, it's worth looking at Clough's targets. He was unable to get COG, not his fault as Hughton managed to hold onto O'Grady without trying too hard, as for the rest, this division is never going to act like a magnet for anyone of genuine promise (Brayford apart...oh, and Murphy.....mustn't forget Kennedy too...etc, etc), but seriously, we've still got time to get someone upfront, but if not? Well I suggest anyone who doubts to look at Saturday's result against Swindon, with many changes in personnel, and many pre-match moaners....as for that silly comment above about McNulty not being a recognised striker, I've got news, he is now.

4 in

nobody out that we didn't want to go

and stillpeople moan

ffs get a grip

People would be much happier had we signed 1 quality striker than: 2 full backs and 2 central midfielders.

Yes, we're happy with the 4, but that doesn't take away from the fact the striker was our priority. Not just in this window, but for the last 6 windows. We all know goals is our biggest problem, so I don't think it's unreasonable to be frustrated if we come out of another transfer lacking a quality striker.

I'd argue that we don't have one "recognised" striker PV
I like McNuts but he is way of the complete package even though he is coming along nicely
Higdon gets far too much stick for being played as a loan striker when he needs a partner up top with him and gets no service to nut one in the onion bag

Then there is Che - exciting, young, raw, quick - he's going to be a real asset to us but it's a big ask to make him be the focal point on a run in for promotion and expect him to deliver consistently to get us over the line - he needs to be used as an impact player and to start games where we want to rest a player and give it a go from the first whistle

Clough signed a goalscorer who's goals tally was 54 from 104 games at his previous two clubs. To me that's a recognised goalscorer. His name? Michael Higdon. He's done it in the past, it's just that he's failed spectacularly here. Clough gambled on a proven goalscorer, but his gamble so far hasn't paid off. But to say he hasn't signed a goalscorer is wrong, it's just that Higdon has been crap for us.
