The the Capital one cup final within reach do you recon we will rest a few players against Preston on Saturday in the FA cup?
We can still post a strong team with the depth we've got for a league one side. Wouldn't be surprised if we saw starts for Alcock, Kennedy, Long/Turner, K.Wallace, Adams, Higdon etc.

Would much rather we rested players in the virtual dead rubber that is the second leg

I was thinking something similar, but thought Flo was injured?
I'd go:
Turner
McGahey, Collins, Kennedy, Alcock
McGinn
K.Wallace, Dimaio
Diego, Adams
Higdon

Although just remembered I think the Ilkeston lads are cup tied in FA

I think Clough said that Flo should be fit again for Saturday.
I forgot about Adams being cup tied so I'd play Khan instead.

Whoever is playing will need to double-up on shinnies based on the shenanigans from the other week.

Keith Stoud is the referee on Saturday, Linz. Not the best Premier League referee there is but certainly better than the joker who we had at the Lane against them.

I want us to win every game, however, with the number of 2 game weeks piling up, I would not be upset to lose this one.

I'd rest Murphy, Reed, and JCR but other than that full team.

I want to see us play in a major cup final before I die.
We are now only 90 minutes and 2 goals away from fulfilling that ambition.
Lord knows when, if ever, we will get this close again.

We need to give ourselves every possible chance of succeeding against Spurs.
The likes of McNulty and Scougall need to have their energy levels fully topped up for the game.
No way should they play against Preston in a game where a victory would leave us still 3 more wins away from a final.

If we don’t rest most of our key, energy-dependant players and fail to beat Spurs, Blades historians will look back and wonder why the hell we didn’t.
It would be a great chance wasted and we’ll never know what might have been.

Very sensible post, someone send it to our Nige.

Considering we are 90 minutes away from a cup final and the semi is on our patch as opposed to trailing down to Wembley and it being a 50/50 fan split we should chuck the kitchen sink at this game.

Even if it means our league form suffers, first final since 1936?

Maybe this?

Turner
Alcock Kennedy McGahey Harris
Davies Cuvelier Baxter Dimaio De Girolamo
Higdon

  • Khan, if Ben Davies is not fit enough.
  • Whiteman or McGinn in, if Clough wants to rest Baxter as well.
  • Push De Girolamo up front and make Davies and Harris wingbacks and we could go 3-5-2, like Clough did vs Rotherham last season.

I personally don't think they'll be major changes but i expect to see the likes of Alcock, McGahey & Cuvelier all get decent game time.

How long is James Wallace ruled out for after his injury against Coventry U21's?

For what it's worth i think we'll line up something like this.

Howard
Alcock
Basham
McGahey
Harris
JCR
Doyle
Cuvelier
Murphy/Diego De Girolamo
Baxter
Higdon

In some sort of 4-5-1/4-4-1-1.

Well that's six changes, so fairly major!

Good! If we don't rest most of the team and lose to Spurs, I for one will still be banging on about it in 20 years time saying "if only we'd rested a few more against Preston"

Why does everyone think Howard needs a rest? A goalkeeper should be able to play a match every day of the week
I don't personally think that them putting Turner or Long in goal are saying Howard needs a rest, they're propably making a point of giving them game time if anything.I don't see nothing wrong with that. Also, would you and Hartley Hare seriously be happy if Howard was to get an injury leading up to our Semi final second leg as i know i wouldn't.

Alright yeah fair point but those i mentioned are all in and around the 1st team picture. I don't expect to see the likes of Khan, Whiteman, Dimaio start

Looking at the team laid out FFS are you Clough?
Cos I thought he was the only one stupid enough to waste Diego turning him into a left side player tracking the opposition fullback !!!
