Are we dark horses this season

You e seen some of the best years in anyone's lifetime. Rise from league 1 to the premier League and and a dream season.
Maybe this is the problem, that was the normal time be expected.

It wasn't normal at all.

I started watching us properly in 2001 so I'd seen a lot of rubbish up until Wilder came along.

This is why i consider us a dark horse, because the weight of expectation isn't as much for us this season, there is plenty of wild results, every weekend there's an upset and i think we've had a lot of luck against us at start of season i.e. injuries players leaving and refereeing decisions, i'm optimistic anyway the tide turns i think the top 8 will be
Wolves
Boro
Southampton
Blades
west ham
Bham
Swansea
QPR

in that order
I think they are selling you some 'dodgy' pints in The Sportsman
or it's full of people smoking some strange vapes and you are inhaling

Before the teams were settled but with a few transfers to Wolves and Brooks given away I picked
Champions WHU
Autos Wolves

Playoffs
Norwich
Middlesboro
Soton
Burnley

Big spenders but dodgy managers
Brum and Wrexham extended playoofs

SUFC under the journeyman's Dads Army
None descript

I also picked SUFC as the best bet at one time 55-1 to go down.
I picked best promotion odds Lincoln at 33-1
but did not know the manager had left
You have to recognize that 100 points with no money at Lincoln is an achievement to be respected
The odds on most things were shite

I suggest that people put their bets on my selections
rather than yours
but ignore my selections for booky breakers United and Lincoln.

What I mean is, you're saying you've seen mainly bad.
You've seen the best run most people have have ever seen, or never lucky enough to have seen.

The three best seasons I've ever seen are all Wilder's.

2016-17
2018-19
2019-20

But that's still only three seasons out of nearly thirty.

I still feel like we've underperformed in that time.

In 24 games against the teams that finished in the top 12 last season we took 13 points from a possible 72.

So far this season we've taken 2 points from a possible 18 against teams currently in the top half.

Since we lost the playoff final we've settled into our role as flat track bullies. We beat the rubbish but tactically and player for player we struggle against better sides. I haven't seen enough yet to suggest we're going to improve on the 15 points from 90 against top half teams. Unless we do we won't get into the playoffs in my opinion and we'll be nowhere near the top two.
It's Wilder that is the problem
In the supposed good season we
finished 4th in a three horse race
3rd of 3 in the league
runners up in the play offs
In the 7 games against the three promoted teams
WE LOST SIX TIMES
THAT IS NOT COINCIDENCE AS THE ABOVE RESULTS

There is an argument about the team failing that season because they are
'Spineless and Gutless'

I don't agree that the players like Anel Robinson Souza Peck et al were that
It IS a very good part description of the manager.
He NEVER set up the team to go out and impose itself
It was always the endless pointless dangerous tedious chuckle brothers
of to me to you in front of the opposition
With the Mr Mccawber of something will turn up when one of the quality attackers did something
off script and lethal.

Even THIS season in our supposed best performance
The 'expert commentator' is stating after some 35 minutes
that SUFC are
'retaining possession when they could be killing Wrexham off'
It was the same at PNE when the entire second half was a question of would be see out the game still in front
Which we COULD NOT the previous year similarly two goals in front.

Delusional
A resounding NO!
We have scraped two wins and a draw and against teams who on the day looked like they are candidates for relegation
All three managers on the brink of the sack
As the Charlton manager coming up on Saturday

And then one of them beats the top of the league next game!
(without star player Lankshear of course!)
The only hope for United with this manager is it is yet another poor League - despite WHU - and we can beat any team on one of their bad days
YOU CANNOT GET UP THAT WAY
Hoping the opposition are hopeless on the day.

We have THE WORST manager in our history
We had three players stealing a living starting last game
Chugalong Choudhury, Captain Clown and Cannon BALLS
and two players McGuiness and Chong played out of position
We got a win because of a quality inherited player still here
who was left out by the imbecile only two games ago costing us points yet again
(As he similarly won the game at Blackburn when we were outplayed and lucky to be still in the game)

We play the wrong formation as we only have wing backs and need three at the back
We also need three at the back as we do NOT have ONE top centre back let alone two
Captain Clown - just pointless
McGuiness I worry about on the ground
Kitching - appears hotheaded sometimes brain dead and again slow on the ground
A shit manager who won't pick Baptiste based on his birth certificate
Docherty who seems to be signed as mascot not a player
A bit like John Ryan at Donny getting a game if the game the league and promotion is already won
A manager who plays McCallum as LSCB when great lad he may be and a good wing back
like Captain Clown is often an accident waiting to happen and CANNOT be a last line of defence
And then RND who was bombed out the first day of Wilders arrival and made the Wales team before United under Wilder
My best three does NOT inspire me with confidence for every opposition lineup
Strength in depth?

There IS a reason why Moore got in behind us literally from the first to the last minute (when McGuiness blocked) playing Wrexham
This is a pattern replicated from the first game at Mansfield Town when they should have equalized at the start of the second half.
FFS how can you miss a 6 5" giant of a man?

As for the defence when we have an attacking free kick
God help us when against Derby was it as at times we had Choudhury and Phillips
Neither can ******* run or get in position to tackle
Although Choudhury made great efforts to run out of position for the PNE goal on two minutes
but of course no effort to get back.
Presumably that's why they were chosen
There is no way they could ever run back into a useful position so have to stand there whilst the others run back
There is a limit to how many fouls Phillips can make in a game despite refs being generous with him so far.

Its said we will have some money to spend in Jan
IF we are pressing at the top
(We won't be with Wilder in charge)
Great - just what we we need
Wilder bringing in another Cannon BALLS (£10 million)
or Captain CLOWN (£8 million)
and wages to match.
(the failure resulting in the need to get rid of star players Peck and Sereki and the endless decline under Wilder)

If we were somehow to be anywhere near the top at Christmas after playing less bad teams not the badly failing
would you trust Wilder making signings to get an improvement ?
The last two Christmas periods have seen us drop off and fail
Last season without a wimper and disastrously without Wilders exit (long term)

THE ONE player Wilder brought in all summer who has made a significant POSITIVE change to this club's fortunes
is clearly DONOVAN
IRONICALLY the only YOUNG player for this third rate journeyman manager.
He played him out of position
changed his game to make him support Choudhury who is hopeless
and then dropped him to prove he was the man and as a **** you to supporters
I'm still not convinced he being correctly guided to get the best out of him
and he appears to have lost some fitness through not playing

WOULD he want a similar star young player?
Or would he sign another batch of ex Leeds player to fail
like last season?
He spent all summer desperate to bomb out all our young fringe players to bring in 30 year old may have beens.
(Except Baptiste who he was forced to play to avoid playing McGuiness and Zatterstrom who he was desperate to offload)

TOO SLOW
TOO NEGATIVE
TOO OLD is the dominating impression of the Summer signings.
A bit like the fraud manager

Would post Senna the soothsayer
Woe Woe and Thrice Woe
But doesn't seem to be a short clip on youtube still

I dread the extended signings Wilder wants to make (for next season) like Ayew and Choudhury if we win at Charlton tomorrow
with no games to distract
Although I will be cheering them on stream willing
That is a permanent problem you have with totally ignorant 'owners'
They are too easy to fool - certainly short term
A bit like this thread poster.

That's me knackered for a good night's sleep!

Though without my intense training he would have probably lost his entire hand, as he acknowledged by buying me a bottle of Ardbeg Corryvreckan on his departure.

Hareism? Callum O ?

No, the hare and the tortoise, is clealy inherrently hareist.

You should go along to a counci reprogramming course, to modify your behaviour.
Maybe reflect on the lot of a much maligned mammal, albeit a skinny jug eared bastard one.

He was up until we got to Wembley.

A recurring theme with Blades managers over the years.
It wasn't normal at all.

you’ve not seen the level of rubbish that’s those of us well over 60 have experienced though have you?
So your rubbish as rubbish as it has been for you wasn’t that rubbish for us over 60!
Now, our rubbish was proper shyte rubbish it really was and I don’t think you young uns would hack it tbh

I saw us play in League One for six consecutive seasons.

It's never been much worse than that apart from the one season we played in the fourth tier.

We really need to stop all this nonsense about trying to pigeon hole people into being Wilder haters or Wilder lovers.

Most Blades fans are neither.

Chris Wilder is my favourite Sheffield United manager ever by a million miles and he probably always will be.

I can't see anyone else bettering what he did for us from 2016 to 2020 in my lifetime.

I don't hate him and I never will.

I just don't think he's the man to take us up again going forward.

It's as simple as that.

I want him to guide us safely to a mid table finish this season and then gracefully step aside to let someone else have a crack at it.

Wilder is a legend and always will be, I'm just a bit fed up of him.
You and your rational thinking… who do you think you are?!

The internet is no place for that. You must absolutely hate something or absolutely love something. There is no in-between.

Anyway, got that off my chest.

I totally agree with you. It’s how I see it too. I thought the end of last season was probably best time to say thank you and goodbye but we are where we are.

UTB

People keep saying that he's damaging his reputation or ruining his legacy here but I have to say that I don't agree with that.

In years to come all people will ever remember is those four seasons from 2016 to 2020.

The 13th place finish last season and everything he's doing now will be forgotten.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts to a tee

We have made progress since then and will be a different proposition to the other top half teams.
We looked dodgy at times on Tuesday, but with Kitching and Phillips back, I reckon we can give anyone in the league a game.
PeterNdlovu081

Can you block me please mate?!

After today, rather than the dark horse, were the one the farmer takes out back with the shotgun and turns him into glue!

Despite the frantic nature and ability to give Charlton a win they also didn’t deserve, the goals we gave were just absolute shit.

You can blame Wilder at times but there are individual mistakes you cannot legislate for.

That was poor from Cooper on the first and it was also bad to let him shoot unchallenged.

Second one was telegraphed 5 seconds before he got the cross there what he wanted to do, why didn’t Burrows just go out to him and block off the route to the byline? Peck was in no man’s land but not helped by Burrows’ half-hearted decision. Kitching not very switched on either.

Crazy that this thread was started after beating one of the worst sides this league has seen and still managing to concede two goals.
