If Doyle turns out against Rochdale on Saturday he'll be the the first player since Stephen Quinn to reach 150 league appearances for United.

Quite remarkable really for a player who was getting Montyesque levels of abuse at the beginning of last season. It's been quite a turnaround since then considering most people wanted shut of him ASAP.

Here are the top appearance makers since the turn of the millennium.

1. (352) Nick Montgomery
2. (278) Paddy Kenny
3. (262) Michael Tonge
4. (254) Phil Jagielka
5. (247) Chris Morgan
6. (211) Rob Kozluk
7. (204) Stephen Quinn
8. (158) Shaun Murphy
9. (151) Michael Brown
10. (149) Michael Doyle

Reyt laker!

At least half of those (excluding Paddy) have took abuse from fans for not being good enough. Surely all the managers can't be wrong can they ?

Well the devil incarnate and totally incompetent Neil Warnock signed half of them so naturally they were shit.

Wonder how many of the current squad will make 150. I could look up how many appearances current squad members are on but I am far too lazy.

144 Collins
103 Evans
98 Flynn
87 Porter
56 Murphy

Let's hope he doesn't continue his run of finishing in a worse League position for the 5th season running with us.

No it's just evidence no other buggar will have them!

'Cockney Walk' turned it round for the lad...

150 league apps for Doyle says it all about where we are as a club. In his time at the Lane we've been relegated from the Championship and now in our fourth consecutive season in the third tier (a club record at this level and not one to be proud of).

At this level Doyle is fine and I thought he should have been in from the start of the season (ditto Collins), but once players such as Doyle and Collins have been replaced in the first team by better players only then will the club be going in the right direction again.

This league is their level. Their purchase while we were in the Championship is one of many reasons why we ended up here.

Nothing against those two personally, but they need to get us promoted in order to redeem their Blades CV. Otherwise they'll be forever emblematic of our failure.

No, of course not. Warnock was proved incompetent only at the top level, as we all know.

It was not Warnock, but rather a complete absence of talent, that made numbers 1 and 6 shit. Monty and Koz, the comedy duo of the century. La Comédie Noire for those of us unlucky enough to see them "play", sadly.

As for number 7, Blackwell was to blame for him being shit, as the player himself was honest and brave enough to confirm.

Number 2 has, in true S2 fashion, improved enormously since his notable schoolboy errors contributed to our Premiership downfall. Speaking of which, a big hand for number 4.

So you see, Ol' Big Nose is not entirely to blame, though he did, inexplicably, play the genuinely talented numbers 3 and 9 out of position for a season and more to accommodate the mediocrity that was Bobby Ford.

Warnock's Premier League points per game ratio extrapolated over a 38 game season is above the average needed to avoid relegation.

So it's a statistical fact that he's not incompetent at the top level. Far from it actually.

The main reason we don't get many more players up to any milestones is because when any of our players show any signs of ability they get sold, and this is why players of Doyle's ilk can reach the milestone he has got to because no fuckers want them.

Monty playing 352 games btwo_Oi never realised how many he got to.

To finish on a good note though, congrats must go out to Doyle for him getting the manager to pick him all those times,he must be doing something right.

I think positions in tables from their respective seasons might say otherwise.

Wrong again Nuddy. He has never ever kept a team in the top flight. Not once. No times. Jamais. Zero occasions. Nil occurrences. Examples unavailable. No such number; No such zone. Relegation or the sack has been his fate every time. Your statistical analysis is such outrageously meaningless bollocks that you really ought to be employed by the GSS. You could solve the unemployment problem overnight.

We were relegated on goal difference by one goal. QPR weren't in the relegation zone when he was sacked. He currently has one draw as manager of Palace.

Not my definition of incompetent.

Your blatant reluctance to give the man any credit at all is bollocks.

Relegated and sacked are both key words there.

I think this is his last chance to prove himself at the top level and to be fair he has got a good set of lads there.

That might be his salvation Wiz, but remember he has the January window available to recruit a bunch of inadequate nonentities.

No salvation he is inadequate at that level what Palace were thinking of when rehiring him god only knows, way out of his depth.

Didn't stop you pillorying him at every opportunity did it (Quinn that is, not Blackwell)? :)

Random quote pulled from the Elpiton archives

The only people who should feel OK about us going into League One with that pair of resource-draining liabilities Ploddy and Elpiton are League One midfielders.
