We have a problem with Cooper

Should have saved their goal. Too slow to get down.
Took a slight nick, Coops deserved a clean sheet. He was a good keeper today no need for harsh criticism. We do need a back up keeper though because Davies is so bad - the management team prefer to risk an injured Coops to a bombscare Davies - which is plain ridiculous.

He's been really, really bad at saving shots this season. His goals prevented is -9.3. By far the worse performing keeper in the league and almost twice as bad as the second worse.

He got a hand to that shot today and last season he would have saved it easily. He's getting to Girbic levels of shitness and something needs to be done about it.

We desperately need another first choice keeper. He’s either playing with an injury or his form has just drastically fallen off a cliff.
Desperately is the wrong word. Would we benefit from a better goalkeeper to rival Cooper rather Davies? Yes but it’s not the end of the world…

What ever happened to that Jagielka fella? 🤣

Not helped by the defence in the first 6 games and the 5-0 walloping by Ipswich along with another 5 against Wrexham. His stats were better when we were winning 1-0 and able to grind it out, this year we need that 2nd or 3rd and often even then we concede which doesn’t help his tally. We do need a backup keeper and we need to get Faxon out on loan too. I have suggested before but Ben Glover on a free would be a stop gap for now.

The defence doesn't really impact on how difficult a shot is to save. In the same situation, with a bang average keeper, statistically we would have conceded 9 less goals.

Cooper was the second best keeper in the league last season behind Trafford. The current second best is Zetterstrom at Derby who's goals prevented is 4.6. If Cooper was performing to those levels we would have conceded 15 less goals and our GD would be +13, not -2. He is a problem.

Great win and ya come on slating cooper for not saving a deflected shot.

Fuck me lad.

It was a great win and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thought Soumare and Brooks were excellent. Just an observation thar Leicester had one shot on target and it went it, as most shots on target seem to do this season.

Dont think it was owt to do with cooper though.

He was excellent last season, and average this season. The rumour is that he's got an injury and at times it looks like it. If this is true he needs a rest so his injury can heal.

The problem is that we effectively don't have a back up keeper as Davies has been so bad whenever he's played. Literally a mistake every game.

Getting a decent back up keeper is #1 priority this JTW for me. Davies and Grbic are both exceptionally poor and nowhere near the standard we need.

I’ve tried to find somewhere that’s has this data as a trend or game by game, to see if there’s any improvement over time, but can’t find it.

I see improvement everywhere in the pitch, but (as an ex keeper) I’m not seeing sustained improvement from Cooper in shot saving, foot distribution, or crosses

What’s noticeable, is teams are often trying to put the ball right on top of him, in congestion, as he is really struggling in that situation. Teams are also shooting on sight

I hope it turns out he’s carrying an injury that can be fixed with an op, and we can cover for him with a signing

His handling is still solid, before it was flawless. His kicking is poor and it used to be average. His shot stopping is now below average and used to be brilliant.

Preferred it when football was a game to watch with your eyes not a set of numbers on a page.

And yes, the eye test also tells us that Cooper has not been as good as he was last season, but all this +8.346 and -4.54 is fucking boring.

Here's an easy one.
Leicester had one shot on target yesterday.

Cooper probably could have saved it, he didn’t.

The team played really well, and Cooper was pretty solid at collecting crosses etc (he didn’t have a lot to do really) I’m not bothered about a last minute consolation goal from range.

You obviously don’t understand the stats. They are based on the ability of an average keeper to save the shots that actually arrive at him on target. Statistically, the more you face the more accurate is the stat on your ability as a keeper. The fact that Coops is minus 9 and yet we are only minus 7 against xga as a team means that the rest of the defence is actually slightly above average.

Coops consistently ranked 5 last year and has consistently ranked 24 this year. That is not a drop in form, it is a significant drop in ability. His body is not allowing him to do what he could last year. He clearly needs some sort of op which is being delayed.

UTB & FTP!

It's the most volatile, publicly available stat in all of football

When we were under pressure 2nd half, Cooper's handling was superb, kept everything calm. Kicking was much better too.

As with Hamer, people have just decided he's shit and shouldn't be playing
I really like Hamer but I think before the season alot of us were under the impression we had no goals without him and since he's been in and out the squad people have realised he's not necessarily the main man in the squad who wins us games all the time so likely lost a little interest in him.

Still a great player I'd like to keep, I'd be surprised mind.

He's carried the team through 2 seasons of not being able to create without him. Feels particularly spiteful that so many people are happy to say "fuck him, get rid" now the team has finally been sent out to attack as a collective.

As one of the 4 most attacking players, we'd be mad to just bomb him out. We have still only beaten 3 of the top 16 teams/1 of the top 8. We are going to need his quality.
