I had a chat with Gemini and we're not making the playoffs.

AI didn't predict it. It told me what was required to make the playoffs over the last 10 years and what United would have to do. We're not up to it. Last season we averaged 2 points per game.
Thats what we need from now 24 matches 48 points =74 that could be enough to do it Most seasons !
Tall order but lets have a go ! Nowt to lose i think we can forget any relegation worry s the way we are playing.

Oh shit. Well can it not just tell us where the tables finishing then so we can stop titting about getting to and from the Lane.

No point in turning up now is there.

Cappy's graphs and calculations on the other thread suggest the playoffs are possible if we continue our form over the past few games.

I am supremely confident of winning the playoffs this season. Tis the way them football gods work!

72/3 points should be enough to nab 6th spot, then dem blades hit the playoffs on a high ⚔️⚔️

For us to get into the playoffs, assuming 75 points will do it, we will need better form than what Frank Lampard's Coventry have had so far. I don't think we're capable of averaging two points per game.

Then again, I'm not too fussed. I've always preferred the Championship.

So I presume from what you are saying is that if we reach the play off final and it's 0-0 and the opposition score in the last minute you would leap in the air, cheering and pumping your fist because we'd be staying in the Championship.

Bit of a silly statement. No, I like the Premier League money but I just prefer the Championship. I would never celebrate a United loss.

AI better than Wilder and likely to replace him, this season certainly answers that doesn't it?

WTF does AI know.....

Gemini

While a top-half finish is highly likely if they maintain this form, the playoffs are a tall order because they gave the rest of the league an 18-point head start in August/September. They effectively cannot afford more than 4 or 5 more losses for the entire season to stay in the hunt.

✅ Possible? Yes — they can make the playoffs if their form improves significantly.
❌ Likely from current form? Not really — they’re too far off the pace at this stage and would need a strong winning run to realistically challenge for the top six.

Could have just used a calculator

It's a tall order and we are showing the sort of form that could be capable of getting top 6.
Sometimes 6th is in the high 60's not 70s too. It has also been high 70s for 6th position.

Last 8 games we have accumulated 17 points which is just over 2 points per game. It would be in this sort of range we would need for the remainder of the season.
That would get us to 74 points.

But it's just too early still to talk about it. Get within touching distance and then we can let it enter the conversation. We are still after all closer to 3rd bottom than 6th.

I don't think the points tally will be so high as previous seasons as everyone seems capable of beating each other, you just have to look how close the points are so far.

We almost certainly wouldn't need 74 or 75 points to make the play offs. In the last 6 seasons - since Covid, when the football league structure shifted - the team finishing 7th has received 70, 70, 70, 68, 70 and 66 points. Even in the 10 seasons before that, the mean average was only 71.8 points with one major outlier: 2015, when Wolves finished outside the play offs on 78 points.

Millwall currently occupy the final play off spot on 35 points (and a negative goal difference!). That's pretty much par for the course in the post Covid years and extrapolates to 73 points over the course of the season. However, in three of the past four seasons, the team finishing 6th had a worse points per game than the team in 6th at Christmas.

Long story short: if we can get to 72 points - taking 46 points from our last 24 matches - I'd be amazed if we didn't finish in the top 6. Our current 6- and 8-match form put us well on course to do that so really it's over to the players and coaching staff to keep the momentum. We've a far deeper squad than most of the sides between us and the very top of the division which helps too.

still odds very much against us making top 6 this season but its definetly not impossible lots of teams over the years have made runs in to the play off spots from where we are and if we beat wrexham and leicester taking us to 32 were very much in the mix
