(and yes I am saying that it is Blades related!). I thought he could get a better job than this, at League Two level, but he has never wanted to move far which restricts him. It ended badly for him with us (it usually does), but I think he is a decent manager, hopefully he can get them into League One (it will be a local Derby for Wednesday at least!)

Not sure why my post is in bold!

One of my favourite games was with Clough in charge, that semi-final vs Hull was brilliant. Ironically, one of my worst games was under Clough too, playoff semi-final against Swindon, bloody hell that was brutal. But we don't do playoff finals so I guess it did us a favour.

Clough seems to have one style, counter attacking. Works well against better teams which was why we did well in the cups but when other teams set up to defend or counter attack it would be turgid and unlikely to get a good result. Would've done well with a real goal scorer like Sharp in the team. Ironically I think he'd do well with a team in the Prem I'm not suggesting anything by that! :)

There are those in life that are addicted to 'struggle'.

Derby, Burton, Mansfield and.......us.

It's a brilliant appointment for Mansfield and a good move for NC, who will get backed.

John Radford seems a decent bloke and he has ploughed his own money into that club, firstly to save them from dropping out the league altogether, and then to get them competitive. Over the last few years with the resources he has provided - relative to the standard - his managers have let him down badly.

Good luck to both. A club close to my heart.

UTB

Wonder if Kieron Freeman will end up there? Still without a club, surprisingly. It’d be local for him too and a chance to play for Nigel again.

I think he’s way too good for that league though!

Im going to keep an eye on Mansfield. Can see them picking up some ex-blades, ex-derby, ex-burton players and a few Scottish nuggets. Maybe a cup run

Yes they're bound to sign a lot of small Scottish players. At least they can't afford Fleck!

Weird world when you get less for killing someone than you would for chatting shit online
And the manager of Mansfield tries to justify it - just an accident.
If it was his kid/wife etc that got run over and killed I doubt he would be so cool about it
Negative Nige embarrassing himself with this one

If we based sentencing on the victim’s/family’s wishes, no one would ever be released from prison!

I can’t see that he’s “embarrassing himself” at all.

He actually said it was “just a tragic accident” and he prefaced that remark by acknowledging the pain of the victim’s family.

What was it if it wasn’t a tragic accident?

Someone not driving with due care and attention?
No accident in that.
Very easy to gloss over it and god forbid one of Clough’s darling footballers might have to be punished for ending someone else life

Sounds like he pulled out at a junction and didn’t see the cyclist. Obviously he should’ve taken extra time and care but it’s clearly an accident.

We’re all human beings and make mistakes, unfortunately this one ended in tragedy.

Sentences involving driving crime are just ridiculous.

And he's only banned from driving for 12 months!
If hed been drinking or was on his phone it would have been a different matter. There's hundreds of accidents a month where cars pull out not having seen someone coming. This seems like a tragic accident and bikes are harder to see (I know because I ride one) than vehicles.

I agree that 'it looks' lenient but the judge will have been following sentencing guidelines set for this kind of incident.

Yeah it's the sentencing guidelines I have the issue with. He would have got less than 12 months if he'd pleaded guilty earlier rather than at the last minute.

I don't really think it's an 'accident' if he's pleaded guilty to causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving. He didn't check the blind spot on the overpowered tank he was driving.

I think if you kill someone in a car, you should be banned from driving for life. But that probably impinges some human rights or impacts the economy too much

Not driving with due care and attention is the very definition of an accident albeit that it resulted in a hugely tragic outcome……..he would’ve been charged with causing death by dangerous driving otherwise.

Pretty sure if this happened to our relative or friend we would think 14 months was a joke sentence. Who it happened to shouldn't matter.
