The essence seems to be he was never technically gifted but physically rapid/strong and used that to make up for it. Broke a leg and had long covid, which took that advantage away. He had off field issues last season at Ipswich apparently.

Looks like a quality signing!

I have a friend who has a long standing association with Norwich City, which includes presenting Ben Godfrey with his young player award in 2019, told me the following:
'one of the outstanding young payers at Norwich 6 years ago, then left to go to Everton and seem to go downhill from there, hopefully he can find that earlier form again for you because he truly had the makings of a great player. Ben Godfrey was a great boy, didn’t seem to have any ideas of grandeur, Just think Everton was the wrong club for him, needed a couple of more seasons with us before moving on'.
