McGinn works really well as a double defensive middy with Doyle with Coady Flynn and Murphy as outlets with a choice of Porter or Baxter upfront. If we want to be more adventurous we can use Scoogs instead of McGinn as a very fast counter. Not sure which I would use against Hull? Do we treat it as an away game and go with McGinn or do we go hell for leather with Scoogs. I'm sure Clough will have had a look at Hull enough to decide which.

Messi all day. Mc Ginn

did ok tonight but that's about all. We have one chance and we are defensive enough. Go for it I say and enjoy the day. When we are 3 0 up time for Mc Ginn !

Interesting (I haven't been tonight) but I view McGinn as much better in attacking mode (he leads our assists for the season) than defensively.

We really have to have a go at Wembley so I would definitely start Scoogs and ask him to run himself into the ground. But McGinn could well come on later in the game.

Scoogs has come into our side since day one from his move from Sots div 3,and relished playing with confidence, dont think Hull would know what to make of him !He is one of 3 who I think would love Wembleys big pitch,Flynny, and Murphs the obvious other two, lets have a go,and not sit back for too long..we all know what happens when we go behind !

Interesting post jezza and i am like most on here, they will shit themselves literally when scouggs runs at them:tumbleweed:
Lets hope they havent got the runs then either:p

Do we start with Scoogs in a more attacking fast counter attacking move or do we set up with slightly more caution which has also served us well?

I get the feeling it'll be the latter, perhaps Hull will want to do what wolves seemed to do (again from what I've heard and read) and be more physical. Same goes for playing Porter or Baxter up front.

It's nice to have options which can alter the way we play

Trying to be physical on a big pitch could be their downfall as they have to get near players and it does not take much movement to get out of the way. Making up that short distance could lead them to make a lot of fouls through being late. I think they will have to set up to be very patient in defence,(different to over cautious).

I think McGinn leading the assists is due to his set piece delivery, which is excellent. Can't remember him making too many assists from open play.

Will it be that much different?

Wembley 115yds x 75 yds

Good point.
Well it was more of a question than a point :)

Wembley always looks bigger but that's normally the case when you have a track around the pitch and/ or the stadium is bigger. It's definitely more sapping as a fan because there seems to be so much more sunlight coming in and I've normally had a skinful since early morning at these bloody games, but is it actually that much of a difference for the players?

I think the occasion makes some players "leggy" ..Some handle the big game pressure. .others don't. .

Scoooooooooooogs for me. I know if I was Hull I wouldn't want to play against him. Get the feeling the better the opposition the better he will play.

Scougs gets my vote for starters as his direct running at the heart if their defence will be a potent weapon.
On R5 comms tonight Sham vs Hull it was stated that Davies coped with all the aerial and physical threat that the big Geordie twat Carroll posed so there is no point matching fire with fire we are best equipped to bypass the lump and run rings round him.

Like has been said slightly above its a bit of a myth that Wembley is big, I had heard the lane was bigger but that doesn't seem quite right although it still shows they're similar.

The legginess is because the hormone released from nervousness causes fatigue hence why despite the claims that you run more without the ball not being true they'll generally get more tired due to added nerves with them not being in control.

Its the psychology of the place !
When you watch united at home ,dosn't the pitch look a lot smaller than when you look at the wembley playing area ?
It,s all in the mind, and the players will think that too !

Never understood why people say the Wembley pitch is massive. As Swiss pointed out, it isn't. It's only 3 yards longer, and wider, than ours.

3 yards further to run there and 3 yards further to run back - it all adds up

Total square footage

Wembley - 8,625 sq yards - area per man to cover - 784 sq yards
BDTBL - 8,064 sq yards - area per man to cover - 733 sq yards

50 sq yards extra per man to cover.

That's why it seems much bigger - try adding that amount of sq yardage to your 90 minutes

Has to be Scougall for me. Our whole game plan and only chance of winning will be to break forward in numbers as we do at home, because there's no option to fall back on a draw. McGinn simply won't offer that.

New poster by the way, another one to transfer over from a dying Bladesmad.

My Dad always used to suck his teeth when discussing Wembley, particularly with extra time, and say something like "tough going on that lush grass". :D

Psychology + extra-yardage, it will make a difference. Might be interesting to see Scougall come on as fresh as a daisy around 60-70 mins in.

We have a lot of players that I think the Wembley pitch will really suit their game. Murphy Scougall, Flynn, Brayford and maybe Baxter (if he doesn't go missing) with the flair and pace these players have I think we can cause Hull problems. Don't get me wrong though its a tough task and Hull are clear favourites, it will be nice to go to Wembley as underdogs with low expectations, for me this is when we are at our best.

Can you back that up with actual data though? Ie actual yards covered at wembley as opposed to premier league pitches for example?

Just because the pitch is wider doesn't mean that teams use the width

I'm not being intentionally argumentative on this, it's a genuine question

And... Is wembley the biggest pitch that we'll play on this season?

Here's a list of Premier League pitch sizes....

http://www.openplay.co.uk/blog/premiership-football-pitch-sizes-2013-2014/

We've played on two of those pitches, both bigger than at the Lane but both smaller than Wembley. Won on both.

Wembley is a big pitch in camparison to that list and Hull's is the 2nd biggest! Hopefully that doesn't give them too much of an advantage.

Scougs for me,although there could be a case for starting Mcginn and bringing Scougs on to run past and beyond a tiring Hull defense in the last half hour and cause problems.
As others have said, the Wembley pitch isn't that much bigger...Hopefully we'll be all over them like a rash, closing down and not giving the likes of Huddlestone time to show his quality, then attack with pace and get bodies forward.
One problem could be Huddlestone sitting deep,it could be a bit like McD for Wolves dictating the play and no one getting near him....I've no doubt NC will have devised a plan..probably the same as how we've played through the earlier rounds...but I'd go for Scougs for his ability to go past people.
