I hate forest

Good on them.

Apart from a half arsed rivalry because of the older generations, any team which managers to break the dull stranglehold the 'big 6' have on the top division will always be preferred in my book
It isn't half arsed for me. I remember mum and dad sending food and clothing packages to South Yorkshire miners in 1984. When Thatcher won, the country changed forever, the Unions were defeated. Whilst I accept opinions vary, I will always have a rational / irrational hatred for all things Nottingham. In 1994 my politics dissertation was on the Miner's Strike and one of the most moving moments was interviewing a vicar from a small South Yorkshire pit town, who was beat up by five police (lapels removed) who accused him of being a flying picket in Notts. He was 64 at the time of the ''assault'' and spoke with a stutter ever since. For me, I hate Forest, 2nd to the Pigs. I have explained my rationale to my kids - the current generation - and they understand.

I get the sentiment, but how many of these Notts ex-miners do you think are watching Forest on a given matchday and apart from the wind up songs how many of the current generation do you think are actually aware of the miners strike?

It’s like me telling my kids to hate all Germans because Adolf was a bit unhinged. Things change.

It's a valid point, but as my tutor, Ian Kershaw, for German history wrote in ''The Nazis: A Warning from History and War of the Century'' that's why history is important. You should always recall past events to understand the present and the future. As an ant-Thatcherite and hater of global capitalism, the Forest fans wind me up. I am not suggesting it's rationale, but that's my opinion. As much as I love United, I hate Wednesday and Forest, for different reasons, suffice to say!! Perhaps, I've lived in London too long!!

My dislike for Forest is based around the fact that I have a few ST holder mates and they piss me off with all the European Cup and Clough shite.

I stand by the view though that I’d like them to do better than Liverpool and Arsenal this season because I’d like them to upset the established order.

Yes it’s hard to swallow - but the fact is they got a rich owner, gambled big time, broke the rules, got a points deduction…..but survived & have now come out the other side as an established top half premier league team. Whilst I don’t think they will finish 3rd - I expect them to make top 8 at worst.
They’re not an “established top half premier league team” yet. Looking good for them this season but we’re only halfway through, and who knows what could happen to them next season.

I'm a child of the miners strike , however it's time to put down the snuff tin and blow out the Davey Lamp .
Things have moved on ...Could you imagine the younger generation of today grafting down the pit for 10 hours ?
Emerging from the bowels of the earth covered in shite coughing their guts up ?
The pits were always going to come to a natural conclusion irrespective of Thatcher & the Tories....
It's been 40 years now that means people aged 50 will struggle to remember it ...

Don't like Forest (ever since the playoff match at their place) and not really that bothered about Bournemouth but the both of them trying to break the big 6 hold on the Premier League is satisfying.

Getting bored of seeing the big 6 (even if Spurs can't win a silver plate let alone a trophy) win all the trophies and would like to see someone break that trend (even if it is Forest).

The problem with Forest doing well and being praised (besides the obvious)is that it normalises and legitimises the means they've used to achieve it. The means should be constantly referred to by the talking heads but it won't be. It creates an illusion that this is possibly for the teams that play fairly. Bournemouth and Leicester have a similar background if you care to go back far enough. It suits the league and the TV companies to bury it and move on.

Too much generosity in this thread. Beyond the scab label, they’ve plainly cheated and got away with barely a slap on the wrist. Sky can harp on about their success this season but you set yourself up well when you sign sixty players without any regard for financial regulations. Also doesn’t help that their fans are about as deluded as that lot from S6. Will enjoy their downfall whenever it comes.

I think half arsed is a little unfair.

A lot of people, and their families were affected during those times. I can entirely understand their anger even if I don’t feel it myself (I was a young un at the time).

The events of that time cut deep for many, and they’ve never healed. I completely understand why that would be

Yes they were cataclysmic times. I was upset at the loss of community, the divisions that took place within and between families and friends and also at the betrayal of the miners by their own leadership. If a certain Mr Scargill had had a ballot, methinks the country would have been more sympathetic. It is that betrayal that angers me.

As for Forest, well another club really buying their way. However if you get wound up over Forest doing it then why not Man City??

I don't see the two things as mutually exclusive.

Isn't it possible to strongly dislike the club and to enjoy the fact that they are upsetting other teams just by being there in the mix? That's a rhetorical question, obviously, as it's how I feel.

The fact that they broke financial regulations, meh. I don't care about that. If we had the money to do it, we might as well given the lack of repercussions. Get enough money behind you and they'll rewrite the rules according to your wishes.

This sums it up for me, the only way to subvert the accepted order is to cheat financially, if you can’t beat them, join them!

Never saw the link between Blades and the Minerstrike. No pits in Sheffield at the time. This was a Steel City. I supported the then strikers at the time, Until I realised it was the Unions against the Thatcher Government. The pawns were the strikers and the Unions cost them their jobs prematurely. Nottingham miners saw Scargill for what he was.
Scabs is an immature response from many who have no links to tge strike. It's like voting for a Pilitical party because your Father and Grandfather did!
