Unexpectedly good signing. I don’t think he’s a premier league but he’s a good championship player and offers something we haven’t got, pace and power.

With BBD in the squad I don’t feel we need another player at the top of the pitch. We start with 4 attacking players and BBD, Moore, Campbell, Hamer, Rak-Sakyi, Brooks, O’Hare, Brewster and Oné is a good and fairly varied group for this level.

The man got 1 assist and scored 6 goals in 14 appearances for us in the Premier League in one of the worst sides ever to grace the league.

It's not his fault Soton don't suit his playing style.

Good signing. Not sure you can call one of the top Championship teams loaning a reserve attacker/attacker who played for the worst team in the EPL two seasons running a statement signing though!
I have to take my hat off to you
Your ability to find the nut in the shit is really quite remarkable

Every cloud could contain nuclear waste in your case couldn't it

He's just asking to get abuse. I obviously don't encourage that, but he will only have himself to blame at this point. The obsession with internet attention is something.
Or he’s trolling and just getting as much engagement as possible before the gravy train ends?

I think the PL comment is a touch harsh.
With us last season, he got 6 in 14 in one of the worst sides with rock bottom confidence. This from a player who isn’t an out and out striker. 12 PL goals over a season at our level would certainly be good enough from wide.

Wonder if he will play Thursday
I hope not. Given this season’s injury issues and lack of squad depth, a cup run is not a priority or even wanted really. Maintaining our league position has to be the priority. Rest our best players. Bbd certainly will fire us to promotion if he is fit !

He needs a 90 minutes to get him up to steam

Anyone who doesn't think this is a top signing for United (or any Championship club for that matter) needs to reevaluate their expectations imo.

It's a tremendous signing, loan or otherwise. I remember just a few short months ago, the majority on here being gutted that we weren't signing him again and being a tad jealous of Southampton getting him. Don't think many thought the same about Archer for instance. He suits the way we play, he seemed settled and as if he enjoyed his football here previously. Yes, he missed some decent chances for us in the PL, but he had to be in the position to miss them in the first place and he still netted on a regular basis.

We are only getting him because Soton had a shite manager who didn't know how to use him correctly. If he had signed for a PL team in the summer who knew what they were getting from BBD and had done their homework about how to play him correctly, there is no way we would be getting him now. If you read the comments from some Saints fans, there are some who think he's shite and would drive him to Sheffield (despite them not really seeing him for any period of time), others who seem more analytical, have implied that he was just the wrong player for the wrong system and that there is a decent player there if the Saints played differently i.e. like United do. Brilliant signing.

Take out his short spell with us and look what he did before that. The two years before that he had decent goal tallies something we lack

£7m....not my money but....do it COH

It’s the transfer fee that’s so much the problem, it’s the wages.

FFP rules make it really tough for Championship clubs to dish out PL level wages. Once our parachute payments run out then we’ll be facing a points deduction unless we offload our best players.

As we’ll be desperate to sell, then they might need to be sold below market value.
Assume the contract regards wages will be quite complicated with all kinds of bonuses thrown in.

Won't believe it until the green tick emerges 🤣

Or maybe we will give him a higher signing on fee as a lump sum, and then reduce the monthly wages accordingly. Or generous performance related bonuses.

I'm not disagreeing with what your post says, but it does come across as someone who is a bit of a worrier. I'm sure the money men at United will have taken all these factors into consideration if and when we bring the lad in.

As fans, maybe we should just try to enjoy the fact that we are trying to bring quality footballers into our club, rather than over thinking things about what we will do of x or y happens in the future. Of course, we should always be financially responsible and any gambles if deemed necessary, should be calculated ones. But now is the time to push the boat out if necessary a wee bit as we might not have such an opportunity again in the near future.
