CONFIRMED Michael Cooper signs for the Blades

Good Morning, just a opinion of Cooper from an Argyle fans view with a bit of background information about him.
The first thing about him is the injury which came at an unfortunate time. He was taken out midair by your neighbors and landed badly with his acl gone. That season whilst only playing half a season he still beat Trafford as league one goalkeeper of the season. The season before was voted EFL goalkeeper for team of the season and league one goalkeeper again beating Trafford and banana. So what is he worth now. Whilst you look at him to propel you to promotion we look at the points he could gain us to stop relegation. The difference in monies next season could be around 8 million. We won't get that sum and with keepers like Rushworth going on loan he could be replaced for the season. Now there are meant to be two other teams interested in him both premiership that are prepared to pay what Argyle want. One of them is Palace to replace the departing Sam Johnston. Both teams he will only be a number two whereas he wants to be a number one, hence his preference for you. The opinion is that if you won't pay the asking price the premiership clubs will as its a cheap homegrown player for their squads. This puts Cooper in an awkward position of what to do. If nobody meets Argyles valuation we'll they are run as a sustainable club and if we lose him for nothing but retain our championship status that could be more beneficial than a low transfer fee.
 
Per others, if Cooper is unhappy and Rooney doesn't start him over next couple of weeks then you'd expect that Plymouth'll have to compromise eventually.
As we've come to know, you can't let your assets walk on a free at this level.

All for clubs going after as much as they can get, but £6m is too much for the lad. Final year of his deal, injury issues, clearly wants to go... I'd offer £3.5m and £1.5m if we're promoted and he plays 30+ times.

I'm not sure Wilder will wait until the end of the window though.
Suspect we'll give them an ultimatum this week and move onto Rushworth if they continue with the brinkmanship.
 
Their record fee received, if I’m not mistaken is David Norris at 3m.

So it’s really shit or bust now for them this window with a year left.

Not being funny, but unless they have a critical injury, which team is buying a keeper in January? They’ll be well set for that position by then.

Any other club is just going to wait until he’s available on a free.

We can hang on a bit but don’t see others coming that will be attractive to him.

He isn’t joining Palace to be third pick and those that can compete with us in terms
Of money, namely Leeds and Burnley, already have first choice keepers and Luton only got theirs not long back.

Rushworth not going anywhere till end of transfer window due to injury to their number one

Think I’d settle at 4m maximum. Take it or leave it really, if they refuse then sit tight on Rushworth, he’s a quality keeper, arguably the best in the league, but there’s got to be a limit.

Is that a gamble you could afford to make? we were in a similar position last season and sold two players under similar circumstances, then again our relegation was a bit more certain with or without them.

Whilst you are here what is he like? any major weaknesses? do you think he would cut it at top end championship/ premier league?

My post worked off an assumption that Nixon's report is accurate, that all parties have been put off by the £6m asking price.

If what you're saying is correct, that there are PL clubs willing to match it, then that does complicate things for us.

However, on the basis that Cooper is ambitious and wants to play first team football, it sounds like we might be the only realistic club you guys can deal with?
He won't oust Dean Henderson any time soon, a goalkeeper we know all about.

Whilst we've got you, I've seen Cooper a few times and his distribution stood out. But what would you say are his strengths / weaknesses and how concerning are these knees?

His weakness is his right knee , his strength is his left knee

No kneed to thank me
 

Not sure the issue with this one. Wages wouldn’t be massive, so, similar to Burrows could be fine for longer contract!

Totally agree.
Some people are commenting that Davies doesnt release the ball early when there are options available.

Perhaps this isnt what Wilder wants.

I can remember mumbling the same things when Henderson was in goal and he hardly released the ball early, prefering to go long (from what i remember).

It might be that the tactic is to get the ball up the field and try and play in the oppos half instead of playing in our own half.

Anyway, back to the point, no issue with Davies in goal while we try and get the best keeper on the best deal for us

Is it a gamble we could afford to take. Well if you go on the last three years accounts you will see each season around 6 million in the bank. There is lots going on down at Argyle like the 26 million collaboration with the council over Brickfields. The club is putting in 13 million that will give us level 2 academy status. So the answer is whilst the money would be handy as it would go into a pot for future transfers it wouldn't be the end of the world if he walked for free at the end of the season having helped given us the points to retain championship status
 
Or despite keeping hold of him, Plymouth are relegated, he signs a pre-contract deal with us in January. There’s risk on both sides.

The information came from a argyle employee on pasoti. He is in the know, but hasn't given any figures.
Yes cooper wants first team football and two years ago was being projected for the top, hence the injury time being unfortunate for him and the club.
His strengths we'll he is very good at shot stopping and his positional play is very good making shots look simple. Thr style of play I would say is a lot like Pickford. Now saying that like Pickford he gives us kittens with forwards rushing in and he has it at his feet waiting for them. Yes he clears it but always feel that he will get caught out.
The quote from Nixon no idea where it came from maybe coopers agent in trying to force things along.

He was taken out midair and done his right acl. Operated on top surgeon in the country. Second injury on opposite knee not so serious. Done in training put down to rushing him back and him compensating to protect other knee. He is fine at the end of the season

He doesn't want to be a second keeper but wants to play. Thing is though if say Palace are prepared to meet the asking price why would argyle accept say 2 million less because cooper wants the move. As I said he could be worth 8 million in points gained from no relegation
 
Saw an interview with Rooney and he said that it was a toss up which goalkeeper he was going to play at Wednesday today as they were both neck and neck, that may well be the truth but to me that says if he leaves him out don't think he's being let go, which absolutely means he will
 
No what we’re paying that or would I want us to, let them stew because no one else is paying that either, they’ll blink first.
