[CONFIRMED] Surely not? Sky report Wolves in for McDonald

He's not nearly as good as many make out, but he is the only player we have who can do what he does.

It's not like selling our only scorer in January, but it's a bad one. Hopefully we will have a few weeks to sort it. Coady doesn't look like a replacement to me.

UTB

Why do we need to try and persuade him? Just tell him he's staying.

Don't we have an option for an extra year on him too?

The thing for me is that we have played all pre-season and the first 2 games with McDonald in the number 10 role.

Who will be playing the position now? I am guessing Murphy moving McFadzean to the left and if not we will have to change formation after 7 games of trying it.

fucking genius

We should hold out for 80m+, not doing Spurs any harm!

NONE of the usual ready made excuses can wash with this one??? Absolutely the vital p-layer in the team, I'd have happily lost Maguire or even Long. The player we've been looking for since Cowans retired, absolutely vital to the team and he leaves after ONE F***ING LEAGUE GAME?
McCabe you really have surpassed yourself with this one

The worst thing about this is McDonald wasn't one of the favourites to leave, Long AND Maguire AND maybe some others will follow. McCabe out

Last season, we went top just before Christmas (away at Crawley) and by the end of January we'd faded badly, then sold Nick Blackman, our top scorer. The Blades can only be applauded then for streamlining this entire process into the first week of the season!

Also if it goes through it would mark the second time in recent history that a United player has scored the first goal of the entire league season and was with another club by the second league game.

Exactly. If we're prepared to accept not even a particularly large sum to allow a player to go to one of our immediate promotion rivals, it's a green light for teams in the top 3 divisions to go in for any one of our key players now. Simply unbelievable - and not even a full week has passed between this and one of our most positive performances in years.

If it is £750k that is an absolute piss take. It isn't even like we could use the Quinn excuse of "we need to offload his wages" because we signed him in this division and during the cost cutting.

I wonder if his agent is trying to capitalise on last Friday's decent performance...

The *only* reason for this can be Wolves offering us silly money...

..or his new contract had a release clause in it. The only reason that I can think of that would lead DW to say "we couldn't stop him going to talk to them".

The player we are talking about was piss poor last season. Forever hiding in games and when receiving the ball, turned in a circle or passed it out of play. He played well in a handful of games. If the going got tough,KMac went missing.

He has loads of potential ability which is why I would like him to stay as I believe Weir could drag it out of him but on Tuesday,we had the 'old' Kmac back. Tightly marked in the first half, he disappeared and his passing was awful.

Weir told us their maybe some sales at the beginning of the season. No one has been misled here. A club with a shed load of money(for this division) has offered a rumoured £750k for a division one player to a club who needs the money.

I would rather us not sell him to a rival club. However, with Weir saying,'we couldn't stop him talking to them' would imply Kmac doesn't want to stay with us anyway (as he stated at an M5 services to a group of United fans on the way back from Yeovil after the play off semi)

If he doesn't want to play for us,let him go. I only hope some of the money goes to the manager (wishful thinking I know)

Possibly. It's also something that Weir is unlikely to specifically make reference to until he'd be sold. No point highlighting any clause in public if the move weren't to happen for some reason.

I'm not sure what is more ridiculous. The fact that we're once again selling our best player, or the fact that some people still consider us one of Wolves' promotion rivals. We've got no chance.

Yeah he wasn't always great. But no-one else in the squad brings what he does, not even remotely. And none of the money, or certainly not enough, will go to Weir to replace him. Maybe we'll gamble on a young up and coming attacking midfield from Scotland and the riotous success we've had from those parts in the recent past.

Sell him now and I think the season is fucked. Mind you I thought that about Blackman last year and oh how I was made to look a chump. Wait...

My main beef with this is that he's being sold to a division rival. If a Championship club came in for him, and Weir is of the view that he has a player to replace him in that role such as Murphy then I could understand it.

I was very critical of McDonald at the end of last season and I stand by that, but on the initial evidence of the season opener he looked leaner, fitter and more interested. In short, not a player we should be letting go.

After the justified optimism of last week, isn't it just "The Blades Way" to slap such thoughts down.

WTTWY.

If we accept £750K then its just ridiculous, we should be saying 2mil or get stuffed and have either a replacement or a decent striker lined up. Wolves have loads of cash we should hold them to ransom.

If this goes through I think there'll be a good rendition of sack the board at the next game

Well this is a bucket of turd. Winter did warn there would be sales, but I would have hoped we could instead encourage the sale of players like Maguire - who has had admirers, could go for a fair amount, and plays in a position for which we have adequate reinforcements. Nevermind, onwards and downwards Blades!

Dr Who filming schedule and playing footy in the north were always going to be problematic.

He was shite last season...
