They played against us before they were famous

Was it the following season, when Sheringham scored for Millwall against us and they led 1-0 and then we scored twice in the last 10 minutes to win 2-1. I seem to recall Beagrie scoring the winner with a fortuitous shot that the keeper should have saved?
Yep. Steve Foley got the other.

David Beckham was on loan to Preston when we played em at the start of his pro career.

I went to a game there that season. Typically he didn’t play that day, but all the talk was of this incredible kid from Man U.

Given all these names, why do some on here decry youngsters going out on loan ?

Kevin Phillips played against United a few times for Watford before his Sunderland move

I have a team sheet for an eighties Central League fixture I attended v Newcastle. Sub for the visitors that day was P Gascoigne.

Think I went to that. Was it at the Ball Inn?

Very hazy memories but seem to remember there was a decent crowd. Think Mendonca had been scoring a lot that season and the game finished 0-0?

Mal Donaghy played for us as a trialist when our reserves lost 10-0 at Villa in February 1978. 4 years later he played in Northern Ireland's famous win against Spain, the host country of the 1982 World Cup and later played for Man U

Donaghy not only played against Spain but was sent off against them. he was the first British player to be sent off in the World Cup finals.

I’m pretty sure I’ve a memory of him playing for QPR at Loftus Rd against us before that.
Yep I was there, think we won 3-1 after them first taking the lead. He came on as a sub if memory serves right and we all were singing/shouting “freeeeek”
Was a cracking away night (although I lived in London and met up with my dad who traveled down for the match from Sheffield)

My favourite one of these comes courtesy of a Wednesday friend. Probably about 15 years Met him for a pint after they'd been hammered away at Leyton Orient. He was moaning that one of their strikers was dreadful (despite scoring), some young lad on loan from Spurs, reckoned he'd never make it.

Called Harry something, not sure what happened to him....
