January 2014, United lose 2-1 at Notts County, and a little known Jack Grealish is playing up front for them on loan from Aston Villa (who we had beaten in the FA Cup the week before).
Any other example of players who went on to be world stars playing against us at the start of their careers?

A good spot by Dnblade about the potential of Grealish!

I was at that game but have no recollection of Andy Cole playing!

Didn’t we go 1-0 up in that game? We’d just won two on the bounce after going 16 without a win.
Cole came on as a sub. He also played and scored against us for Bristol City in the league cup in 1992-3.

We were 1-0 up at HT via Bryson’s goal.

Steve McManaman made his league debut against us in our 2-0 defeat at Anfield in 1990-1.

Lee Dixon scored an own goal for Stoke in our 3-1 win over them in 1986-7.

Jermaine Pennant played against us in the FA Cup for Notts County in 1999 when he was 15.

17 year old Tim Flowers was Wolves’ first choice keeper during their disastrous 1984-5 season (the second of 3 straight relegations). He played in both games against us. Both finished 2-2. He was excellent in the game at the Lane, defying King Keith in a one on one situation.

John Fashanu played against us in league and Cup for Lincoln in 1983-4, his first full season. He and Teddy Sheringham also played against us for Millwall in 1985-6 (Fashanu destroyed us in the notorious 3-1 defeat at the Lane).

Nigel Winterburn as well for Wimbledon. Went on to have an excellent career at Arsenal.

Remember my Dad saying he stood out.

Of course we wouldn’t have had any cash to take advantage!

in the late 90‘s we played Norwich away. I had the offer of a place in one of the exec boxes as Deloitte, my employer at the time, were doing some consultancy work forthe Canaries and I think had been told that booking a box that hadn”t been sold for this match might improve the chances of getting follow on work. The problem was that Deloitte couldn’t find any clients supporting either team apart from a couple of farmers who cam up from Cambridgeshire. So the call went out internally and i got to lunch at Delia’s canteen and very nice it was too.

Like recent games we started well but lost our way in the second half - I think 2-1 in the end. Afterwards we proceeded back down to the hospitality area to see the MOTM presentation to a young midfielder by the name of Craig Bellamy. He had run the show in the second half if I recall.

For pretty much all of his career he was operating at a higher level than us and was never popular amongst fans of the teams that he didn‘t play for but I always thought he would have been a great fit for us.

Callum Wilson scored against us for Coventry in League One in October 2013.

Also starting for Coventry that day were John Fleck and Leon Clarke.

This is actually really weird because that game was played at the Sixfields Stadium.

Four years later we got promoted at the Sixfields Stadium against Northampton when we won 1-2.

The goals were scored by Leon Clarke and John Fleck.

😲😲😲

Was it the following season, when Sheringham scored for Millwall against us and they led 1-0 and then we scored twice in the last 10 minutes to win 2-1. I seem to recall Beagrie scoring the winner with a fortuitous shot that the keeper should have saved?

Ron Atkinson played for Oxford against us in the 1970-71 promotion season. I think his brother, Graham?, was also playing for them.
