no we couldnt afford archer and doyle unfortunately but archer had to be the number 1 priority and agree mcatee is most likely on his way back here think pellestri was our other choice but he seems to want to stay at man utd and fight for a place so looks like balde might be heckys other loan now

Sociadad are a similar sized club to us. Only difference is they are doing better in La Liga than we are in the PL, and are playing in Europe.

They average around 30k. Stadium holds 39k. Population of San Sebastian metro area is only 400k.

Newcastle wanted him, but I think they couldn't agree a fee with Arsenal.

He would've been perfect. Very good defensively and also has an engine. But like you said, not realistic for a team that just got promoted to the Premier League.
 
City game told me we were very poor with the ball, lost it far too cheaply and is likely to be a pattern against several other teams also.

So I’m not convinced Pep would have watched us and thought we were an ideal team to send McAtee this season as on that showing he won’t be effective.
However….it would be down to the manager to reassure that we have other players coming in that will improve that fact. Of course, most teams have the nucleus of their squad before the window ends and pick up the odd player at the end to be the finishing touches rather than still building a whole squad!
We have to hope Hecky has a good enough and trusted relationship with Pep to get it over the line.
Of course they could retain an option of January recall if they feel it’s not improved.

Or he’ll think McAtee will still get in this team and also help with our ball retention. Player up for move (assumption) so keeps him happy too.

Win win.

Not sure Pep will judge us just on the game against Manchester City, we were more 50/50 with Forest so more like where he would see the benefit.
The other thing to consider is character. If McAtee can come here under the circumstances that we will be under this year and still do well it’ll really show that he can succeed even under diversity and I think he’ll appreciate that.

That's how I see it as well. Joining a team like Brighton, for example, would be the easy path. They make everyone look good.

Here he can really prove himself and show that he can make a team and players around him better.

We were poor with the ball, but we tried to break too fast, too often. We rushed the ball forward, forced the killer passes and rushed trying to make defence into attack.
It's new to them, the only established players are our back line. The entire midfield and top two haven't a clue how to complement eachother just yet.
Breaking on opponents looks easy when it's done right but you need the right players and the right understanding and partnerships to pull it off. We don't have enough of either yet.
Add McAtee and Archer to that lineup and we'll be a lot closer.
 

If we can get Doyle and McAtee in as Hecky says in the Yorkshire Post he may have to cut players from the 25 man squad to make room. If it makes the team better go for it. A few in the squad would look better in the Champ and should bring some needed cash into the club.

Genuinely though, Champion's League sides are against Man City, that's what they do. It's not even that they're particularly good at the back, you just can't get the bloody thing off them and when you occasionally do, they're all round you to snatch it back. Can't judge us on yesterday.

Saw Bayern struggle as much as we did yesterday. Is what it is. Villa have spent money this season, same with Newcastle. Same shit will happen to them.

Some of it wasn't even under much pressure though just terrible passes or even complete miss kicks. Of course the opposition played a part in that but I think it shows we are lacking a lot still.
 
The only way I can see Doyle still being in our thinking is if we can structure an inverted deal to the one with Archer. There seemingly just isn’t the funds to do anything else.
Something like we pay a minimal fee, similar to if we’d loan him this season with add ons if we don’t. If we go down Doyle would be starting over Norwood anyway you would suspect.
The only bit I don’t get with the above is why City would do that deal when Wolves will be much more likely to pay upfront/work it into the other transfer.
Nope, I just don’t see how it makes sense from anyone perspective.
 
If Doyle goes to Wolves, fair enough, one of those things and we'd be very happy with McAtee. Let's just hope we haven't waited a whole transfer window for this then a relegation rival gets both...
 
Issue is now that Wolves are selling their Portuguese lad Nunes to Man City and may need a sweetener.

It was that revelation that we'd made a 360 (180) and we'd now be splashing the cash that I found difficult to believe.

I think the loop hole for Archer is the game changer. It will be until they close the gap. Italian clubs had it with dual ownership. Juve used to have 50% of the youngsters in the league then after 2 years whoever placed the higher bid took the player or they had an agreed price.

Doyle is a funny one, because he's probably a 15m player, but i don't think the ceiling is there for Man City to buy him back. Makes the deal harder. United side will be looking at either his resale clause or guaranteeing him a year at his premier league wage if we do get relegated. Personally i think this is bite the bullet time as the squad if we went down had a lot of value. Just need to sort out the contracts of the players left at the club so some can be loaned out. A lot of this will be down to the wire.
