I’ve heard on the inside Mcatee being touted up by Feyenoord, they’re being very proactive.

Both McAtee and Doyle seem to be slipping down the pecking order at City.
Not sure that Doyle was ever in contention for shirt there and I'm surprised he hasn't already moved on.

City dropping Doyle off for us on Saturday maybe. It would make no sense for them to sell before we play them and they probably want to wait a bit too confirm no more injuries before deciding on loaning Macca.

I'd love to see both back

Has Doyle been injured this summer? I know he was in the u21s squad but I've not seen him involved for city? I know he's probably not good enough for them but they've had a few injuries and even younger players are getting on the bench ahead of him?

Just not in their squad as far as I can tell, don't think Pep rates him as highly as some of his other youth players like McAtee and Palmer.

The difference there is FFP rules don't apply to City so they've got no reason to be creative

Think I'd prefer Balde and McAtee.

Considering we were thinking we'd sign nobody at least things are looking up!

if we could get mcatee and balde along with archer we would give ourselves a fighting chance of finishing 17th this season certainly things are looking a lot better than they were 3 weeks ago

The simple economics make sense for them.

Selling one youth player for 15-20m pays for recruiting and training of another 10 or so.

If 1 or 2 make the first team ala foden. It saves like 50-100m on signing someone new.

The rest you can make self fund the academy with loan fees and smaller fees and wage contributions etc etc.


Similarly - in our recruitment. I think we’d be better putting our eggs in more than one basket with young, cheaper foreign players.

We could sign 5/6 slimane’s or traore’s and Anels. For the cost of a Brewster. You need one to be good, one to be decent and then you can absorb a couple of misses.

Rumour is that we couldn't agree terms with Doyle as he wouldn't accept the relegation pay cut we offered, so when he wouldn't sign we turned to Davies instead.

Guess that's no fun for those that like to have a dig at the club though.

Also, mentioned a few times in this thread, Doyle had to be a purchase. We want McAtee and can only get him on loan, so Doyle needed to be a buy. Hecky decided to save the money and put it towards “the very top of the pitch” and get Davies in midfield instead, who isn’t exactly an unknown.

I hope Davies plays really well as I fear he will be a scapegoat if not. People will see him as the reason Doyle isn’t with us.
