The simple economics make sense for them.
Selling one youth player for 15-20m pays for recruiting and training of another 10 or so.
If 1 or 2 make the first team ala foden. It saves like 50-100m on signing someone new.
The rest you can make self fund the academy with loan fees and smaller fees and wage contributions etc etc.
Similarly - in our recruitment. I think we’d be better putting our eggs in more than one basket with young, cheaper foreign players.
We could sign 5/6 slimane’s or traore’s and Anels. For the cost of a Brewster. You need one to be good, one to be decent and then you can absorb a couple of misses.
