What goals from our past would have been chalked out by VAR. For and Against

Off my memory

Tony Philliskirk - V Dirties in 86 - miles offside
Pesky V Palace in League Cup Quarters - 02 also miles off

Against

Brian Mclair v us in cup quarter final 1990

Special mention for a penalty we should have had at Plough Lane in 1991 - when John Fashanu inexplicably punched the ball away (although not so inexplicably later)

Still laugh when I remember the Wimbledon players screaming at the ref to give us a penalty!!

Hockey v Millwall (h) April 1971, punched the ball off the keepers hands and then sliding to put the ball into the net .
Dearden v Leicester (h) Jan 1972, used his hand to score the equaliser.
Edwards v Everton (offside) and Shrewsbury (handball) in the mid 1980s

Against

Fash handball in the final minutes at Plough Lane in March 1991
Deane's header that bounced over the line at Palace in Dec 1992

How about our goal at Aston Villa in June 2020 where the ball was carried by their keeper miles over the line but the hawkeye technology didn't work and Michael Oliver refused to give the goal. VAR did of course exist then but bafflingly the officials refused to use it. The point Villa gained from that game kept them up at the end of the season.

Colin Addison shot hit the stanchion and bounced out in the season we went down the 4th division.
Everybody saw it go in except the ref.
Season went badly downhill from there.

This is one of the most disgraceful decisions I have ever seen but sadly typical of the Football "Authorities" and as you rightly point out had an enormous affect on 2 clubs, Villa and Bournemouth, the former staying up. Surely all this technology was installed to try and ensure that the right decisions were given on the pitch and to correct wrong ones. This was not a subjective decision about a possible big toe being over the line or was there contact warranting a penalty or a red card. Everyone (apparently apart from the referee) could see the ball had crossed to line and that a goal should have been given but the wrong decision was allowed to stand. Mind blowingly stupid.

Colin Addison last played for us 10 years before we went down to the 4th. Do you mean Glenn Cockerill against Grimsby at home in Sept 1984 when we were in the 2nd division? We didnt get relegation that season.

No, never heard of it.

I was trying to work that one out too. I 'just' remember Addison playing for us back in the late sixties? Think I went to a few games at the Lane where he was featuring.

Just makes me wonder (and be angry about) how much the likes of Fashanu, Grobbelar and fucking Segers made from their fucking cheating and bribery.

That last game of the season for us was a travesty that one day they'll make a TV programme about.

Cunts.

Yes, he was with us between November 1967 and summer 1971. Think Pittsburg Blade was thinking about the "goal" Addison scored against QPR in Nov 1970 because the ref blew for full time just before the ball crossed the line?

Danny Webber's 88 minute winning goal @ Vicarage Road in PL 2006/07. Watford 0 Blades 1. Live on SKY SPORTS and replays showed it was just offside. Wouldn't have been given had VAR been used then in PL

The sense of injustice still rankles with me about that one…and it’s more than 50 years ago.

Phil Parkes had a blinder that day. Save after save after save. He was magnificent. We threw everything at him but he kept making superb saves. Then, finally, Addison beats him with a screamer. The Shoreham goes bonkers with relief and delight. But the referee blew for full time as soon as the ball had left Addison’s foot. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The iconic Pesky goal v Florist, play off semi second leg at the Lane. Not really had a good look lately but seemed to think he might have just been offside ??

Chris Morgan getting punched in the face waiting for a corner against Wigan.

Can't remember who did it though.

Scottish centre forward who managed to get himself a move to Rangers that month so conveniently missed out on facing Morgs in the return at The Lane........possibly, if I've remembered it right.
