Whatever happened to George Baldock?

I remember a player saying that he stays after training to practice crossing. Not to be Rude but I don’t think I’ve seen the bastard cross the ball in when he has a good chance since he got here. Always that little fake onto his left foot which he can’t use or hits the first man. Doesn’t even seem to be great at defending anymore

I think you misheard. He stays after in training to practice being cross.

Both himself and Stephens are way past their best for us and need moving on in the summer. Neither of them offer anything as wingers as they can’t deliver a decent pass / cross and are both suspect in defence. I think that Stephens was probably the worse of the two today but that’s like comparing sickness to diarrhoea.

I suppose all players have a couple of seasons when they hit their peak.

Baldock's were just prior to us going into the Prem and that first season where, to be honest, practically all the squad over-achieved.

He keeps getting picked by the manager so he will turn up and play, however good or bad that turns out to be.

Not been a bad servant of the club if you take his Blades career as a whole.

Huddersfield's 2nd goal v QPR just now....................that's how you cross a fucking ball George! (.......and Enda/RND/Ozzy/Max).
(apologies for the gobboldygook from last weekend lads - not my finest hour, lets draw a line under it - thanks!).

He’s a good championship RB but he ain’t a RWB and never will be.
If we fail to go up then he gets sold for me, we don’t need him and Bogle in the championship

I thought exactly the same, George either delays or more likely hits their first defender.
What he definitely doesn't do is deliver a cross like the Udders man did.

What infuriates me about him is he will go for the man instead of the ball.
There was one occasion today in the 2nd half when it went out for a corner. If he had run in a straight line to the ball he would have got it.instesd he ran on an arc so he try to foul the opponent. It gets on my tits ,players who won't go for the ball and instead try to leave their mark on the man .
For me he goes in the summer.

Spot on with the 'tackle' observation.

I've said it on other threads but we are top of the League in giving away pointless, needless free kicks.

Not necessarily bad challenges but nudges and trips on players who are cornered or just going nowhere - Ndiaye today elbowed the defender in an area where there was absolutely no danger to us. Then the player goes down plays dead and stays down a couple of minutes, Ndiaye picks up a yellow. and they have a free kick to clear their lines.

Fucking senseless.

Completely agree Rufus

I'm a big fan of Baldock. Good athlete, solid defender, competive and from the outside seems to be a dressing room leader.

However, we play with wing backs and rely on an output from wide as this is where we try to attack from. He offers very little in this regard. He's indecisive, goes backwards, hits the first man with crosses and panics when something drops to him.

We've missed Bogle big time.

On the left, we have no options. Stevens is the pick of a bad bunch.

Baldock might be one player we can actually sell in the summer and I'd sell him. He's over rated and offers nothing going forward. Get rid. Keep Bogle. Get another as back up/competition.

We played a back four earlier in the season and he was crap at that too, his only good performances for us have been as a wing back, the idea that he's good at defending is a myth, he loses his man far too often, he's just good at niggly little pushes and trips.

Baldock...solid defender

It's all about opinions of course, but I've always considered this a myth.

Karlos is bang on about him trying to leave his mark on a man more than trying to win the ball, and the hardman routine doesn't come off at all.

I'm not knocking his character, I'm sure he's committed to the cause and a decent guy. But it doesn't translate on the pitch, he's indisciplined and can be a headless chicken. His little legs and burst of acceleration make him look busy but it just gives an illusion that he's actually doing something.

It's worth noting that from all our defenders Baldock has the lowest tackle success %. It's not by very much but it's the same issue as Norwood...if a player is in the team because of they have one single strength then they really need to be bringing it consistently.

Get rid in the summer, Stevens too. We moan about Stevens, RND and Osborn yet we have a player getting rave reviews at Forest who plays in that position.

People give silly fouls away because they’re not good enough, not fit enough or can’t read the game to make the challenge a good one in the first place.

I think with Baldock it’s the same as a lot of our players, formation and tactics.

We’ve been far to loyal for far too long.
