Hecky, brilliant job considering we have 9 players out injured who would probably walk into our first team, makes the job look even better.

However, his use of subs baffles me, and more so his use of squad players outside his preferred 11. First sub today on 65mins. 3-1 down. Too late. I think all of us saw at HT we needed to change some legs, but we never did.

We've been playing 3 games every 6 days since beginning of Feb, and we're using the same 11 players almost since then with minor changes due to injury. Why not give N'Diaye a start as a like for like MGW replacement, to give him a rest. Give Jebbison a run out ahead of Sharp. It can't have been any worse than the end result today.

Now we'll be going into Wednesday game with Sharp and MGW tired, which is pretty much back to square one.

OMFG could you imagine the meltdown on here if he rested MGW after midweek? They'd be calling for him to be sacked on here.

The problem is, his options are McBurnie for Sharp and given how toss the former has been you'd probably be reluctant. Then there's Ndiaye for MGW. That's it really without playing kids who clearly aren't ready.

You could rest Norwood and drop Berge back, playing Ndiaye and MGW, but he's looked poor defensively. You could have played Osborn in the centre but Seriki looked poor and you'd have Gordon and Seriki on the right.

When they got number 4 I'd have pulled the most tired players off and just tried to hold the score.

Agree mate I said we needed a shape change and player change at halftime should have gone 4-4-1-1 moving Gordon and Osborne adding a body in midfield Ndiaye to right mid and getting Berge central with Hourahane or Norwood behind
We played into their hands today and could have firstly nullified their dominance of midfield and got back into the game
But he does fuck all until 3-1 down and the game and heads have gone

Other than maybe change to 4 at the back it's hard to see what real options he had to use today.
We're just one senior player short no matter what you do.

If you go 4 at the back, you can put Osborn onto LM but you still need a young kid at right back.

What's knackered us is Goode, Baldock and Davies all being suddenly unavailable.

We're down to the back ups for the back ups!

Ozzy, Egan, Gordon, RND
Berge hourihane Norwood
MGW. Ndiaye
Sharp
Far from ideal. But not as easy to run through as we were

Today, using Ndiaye and jebbo instead of mgw and Billy, would have probably seen the same result.
I agree about rest and rotation. Probably see them on Wednesday more.

Hecky started Ndiaye instead of MGW against Millwall - that went well

Trouble is the bench is depressingly weak, kids who are nowhere near ready, making up the numbers, and McBurnie who's now injured again

When you win. Substitutions are great or at worst not noticed. When you lose everything is forensically analysed.

The injuries haven't helped which leaves fewer viable alternatives to turn to. In my view Hourihane and Norwood are to similar and struggle against a more youthful and athletic midfield. But options are limited due to Flecks injury.

But that said, the OP has a valid point about the timing of substitutions. I would prefer to bring someone on earlier to turn the tide or to shore up an under pressure area. I don't see any reason why a substitution can't be made at half time if there are issues in the first half. I think Hecky is quite cautious in this regard.

On the other hand the bigger issue is the hot and cold performances we are seeing for the last month. Substitutions are less effective when the whole team isn't tuned in from the start. Getting complacent after a good win and crashing back down to earth the next game is where some home truths need to said to the team.

We need to get this aspect spot on in the coming weeks if we are to have a chance in the playoffs.

I don't want it to sound overly harsh but since the Huddersfield game I've thought Hecky isn't the best tactically. It's not overly a criticism of him as I don't think it matters too much. He's still the best manager for this club by a long shot and I think as a man motivator nobody else would get better out of this squad.

He is costing us points now. Wrong subs at Preston, same at Huddersfield and he must be blind at Millwall and tonight. Our front two were empty with 20 mins to go. Then he moans about injuries. He’s done well but he will lose credibility soon if he persists with this. Break can’t come quick enough !

You can’t really blame him at the minute we have 11 injuries. Kids are making up the bench pretty much, hate to say it but these injuries cost us promotion we’d have pissed it otherwise.

He’d got 3 options on the bench and one of those was a goalkeeper another a 19 year old striker and a midfielder so what the fuck can he do ?
I can only assume he has no confidence in Jebbo not giving it away and putting us under pressure? That said, Billy was dispossessed several times in the last 10 mins.

When has he moaned? Have you seen the list of injured players?

With hindsight we should a thrown a few COVID sickies ourselves.

Like I said earlier on here, we played with a straight bat and didn't try to get games called off. All it appears to have done is fucked us and given us a relentless fixture list.

If he had brought one on earlier, same bunch would be complaining about that instead.
