Only Sheff Utd fans could be negative about our 3rd division team signing a player of Beatties calibre.

Good and smart move by the club. Short term contract puts the emphesis on him scoring goals otherwise we can offload. I think most of us think a fit BT at this level will be the source of goals, and you would expect points from that. If that works we go up the table and get a better crack at promotion.

If it all falls on its face and he gets injured early doors we bin him off in January knowing our speculate to accumulate didn't work, but didn't break the bank. I'm guessing the additional bums on seats will pay his wages as a starter for ten.

I'd like to think that a strike force of Beattie and Evans could do some damage at this level. Besides, if opposition defences start doubling up on him, it will free space for others to do the business.

I am pleased he is back. Depends on fitness but he is class and that is not something you can state about many (if any) of the rest of the muppeteers on the books.
Not just pens - he knows where to be cos he reads the game and he can take a better free kick than Evans. Maybe he can teach Evans a thing or two while he is here and Chedless can make some improvement in his all round game.

Got to be a positive whatever way you slice it.

I wasn't keen, based on £££ - but it sounds like a low risk deal, and it should give an uplift to the mood.

Na, Naaaa,Na,Na,Na, Na,Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Na,Na,Na,Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa BEEEEAAATTTTTTTTTTTTIIIEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DW must think he's close to match fitness, otherwise he wouldn't have signed him for just two months. We can't afford to keep him on the sidelines.
On the bench at Chesterfield perhaps?

Why not? If Evans and Cresswell start then Beattie is a far better sub option than Porter, but sticking a giraffe in a shirt would be a better option than Porter.

If Beattie starts then he's got to be worth a cheeky flutter on being first scorer........

Conversley, if he does well (say 7 goals) I'd actually be ever so slightly worried that someone is going to put a Cressy-esque contract in front of him.

Yes, let's hope history won't be repeating itself here with Beattie doing a 'Cresswell':

Autumn 2011: Sign a short term deal when the club "needs a lift"
Short term contract: Do well
January 2012 TW: Sign a top contract till 2013
Jan-May 2012: Do well. Miss out on promotion
Summer 2012: Get your agent to ask for a new deal
June 2012: Sign a top contract till 2015
2012/13: Play crap as the club gets relegated to the fourth division
2013/14: Start well, then stop scoring
2014/15: Still contracted...

I remember when Spackman took Paul McGrath - with his dodgy knees - initially on trial, and then on a one-month contract . He was magnificent. Then we gave him a contract up to the end of the season and we hardly saw him again - he was always injured. The announcement of his retirement was conveniently delayed until April.

If Beattie makes it off the treatment table (and away from the burger van) long enough to get on the pitch then I cannot see him doing too much. Perhaps a couple of pens and a free kick will find the back of the net. The team will undoubtedly suffer when it's 'talisman' puts in an effortless, lazy and uninterested performance. Still a couple of goals will keep the medicrity lovers happy. Then a trip to Hallamshire hospital for Christmas and a shop window performance (finally putting in a bit of effort) when the TV cameras are there and he will be worshipped again. Just as United start to dream he will be off to pastures new when a bigger club comes in for him. The club will blame the agent and BT will say that he wanted to stay and is still wearing his United shin pads, but was forced out. Ollessendro will remain from saying 'I told you' and be the bigger person (again) despite all the vitrol he has received for expressing his opinion (that Beattie is overated and apathetic).

Any chance of Ollessendro remaining (or refraining) from saying anything at all or being a bigger person despite him being opinionated, over-eager and pathetic?

Sounds like you're describing Chris Porter to me, Olle. Please don't tell me that you think Beattie could be any worse than this shower is now?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

No. Olle has a medical condition that precludes quietness. Look At Me Syndrome. If he's not spoting on about fucking sheds he's tying himself in knots on here, desperately trying to contradict whan he stated to be the truth a fortnight ago. Give it five minutes, maybe less.......

Maybe it would help if you stop spouting utter crap.

Sorry to disagree Olle but this time you are way off the mark
Beattie is a Talisman, with more quality than the rest of the team and a leader - make him skipper I say!
The team will follow and with 500 -1000 plus more bums on seats he will pay for himself!
Yes,it's up to him but you never saw him spurning chance after chance week after week
Beattie, Cresswell or Porter up front I know who my choice is!

Greg impressing the locals whilst talking about the Blades again :)

His hounding out and a return to Sheffield (despite his problems here) is ever closer :D

It's amazing the loyalty you can buy for a mere £27,000 per week.

Beattie against all expectations does well and bangs a few in and assists Ched to bang in a few more. Come January Beattie leaves and Ched gets 8 years. We make the pay off final v pigs and have Porter up front. Hope this nightmare scenario doesnt come to pass. I cant see us gaining from Beattie apart from a psychological lift. if he does well he will be leaving in Jan. Perhaps thats why Wilson wont be giving him too much pitch time to impress during his loan?

He's a free agent, and I'd hope United have a something bulit in that if he does well they have the option to extend to at least the end of the season.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary how does your garden grow. The only thing that is bigger about you Ollie is your over inflated opinion of yourself and your own self importance. From what I have seen you are (like most of us) wrong more than you are right, but your 3000+ posts shows you as a "throw enough shit at the wall and some of it will stick" sort of internet genius. Unfortunately I am still to see you provide evidence of where you have previously been right let along be big enough to let discretion be the better part of valour. I realise you feel you are being the ultimate wind up merchant by keeping, keeping on but actually you are just white noise. I find you amusing. You are many different people rolled into one. But the real Ollie is always bound to surface to see if anyones still looking at him.

My guess is your riddled with your own insecurities and by making more noise than anyone else you perhaps think no one stops to look at the insignificant speck behind the big speaker? Lets now pull your last post apart for the hell of it.

BT makes it off the treatment table/away from the burger van. Yep, he's a big fatty isn't he. Actually no he isn't. The bloke was good enough to not take a contract until fully fit (someone would have certainly offered him one). A couple of Pens and a free kick making the net would still count as goals. I know you are aware that our squad is so packed with Messi type players that we don't actually need a good set piece taker. Lazy and uninterested. Yawn. A couple of goals keeping the "medicrity" lovers busy. Assuming you mean mediocrity lovers then a few goals that equals a few points should keep us all happy shouldn't it? The rest of it just gets worse and worse. Its designed to poke people with sticks in the worst possible way.

Fact is there isn't a constructive point in there anywhere (there rarely is). No balance in your argument and no comment about the things that actually matter. For instance, he is lazy but I hope that he bags the goals to get us to where we need to be.

To sum up, I'm starting to think you know nothing about anything but make enough noise to make it sound otherwise. Just an observation. Mi owd.

Talking of strikers getting convicted, there is one who looks more than likely to get convicted and receive a jail sentence in the Sheffield area.

Me thinks Brownie knows something that we can only guess at........
