I’m not suggesting that this is his fault at all.
He was reported in an article in The Sun talking about United ‘Chris Wilder was brilliant. Not a bad word to say about the place’
Not surprising really joined January 2020, released June 2021, managed a game against AFC Fylde and the last 15 minutes against Burnley.
No doubt picked up a wage in the meantime that most of us could only dream of.
Ever wondered what has gone wrong with football these days?

Easy money for a signing which had most of us going 'WTF?'

With the defence looking bobbins and us struggling like fuck to replace suspensions and injuries, this teacake must have been laughing his bollocks off

Another one of Chrissie's successes.

One of our more baffling signings. I know he was injured a lot but if he could not be trusted to play in our defence last season it begs the question why he was given a new contract the previous summer. Very, very odd.

I don't get this 'signing a player who is injured' shit, TBH

Wherever there's an obscene excess of money you are bound to get strange arrangements.
Colin's time was littered with them but there were a few by Chris too.
One that had the worst lasting effects was the awarding of unnecessarily long lucrative contracts , AFTER promotion in 2019 , to players who were past their peak and were never going to get anything higher in the rest of their careers.
Once those players decided to sit on their arses , we were fucked , they were unsellable + relegation with a whimper soon followed.
A promotion bonus - fine ... But not a contract to burden the club + bring it down.

Wh
I read the article, and was amazed that they had found a photo of him wearing the kit.

I checked and it wasn't photoshopped or anything.

1 and a bit games in 18 months. I presume that the only time he played through the pain barrier was at the pre-contract medical.
What medical ?

Absolutely bizarre signing.

And Jack Robinson was chosen ahead of the bloke.

Just let that sink in.
We played Stevens and Baldock in front of him at centre half, which must have been pretty humiliating given that is supposed to have been his specialist position. He was probably only just in front of me in the pecking order!!

Agree mate

But to quote Wilder -
“ we could go mad. But then you’re sat here in two years’ time with the club on it’s a*** because of overspend.“

Liar or visionary?
You decide……..

Great read, did pretty much everything said wouldn’t, holding out for £4m payout for securing relegation in January, and the last line of this article is pure poetry.

God knows what he would have done if he was not careful with his spending
Maybe not got United into the Prem and the brink of Europe. We seem to be overlooking that little bit in our tones

Just read the article, about spending wisely etc ....then spunks 100 million or so on dross ...then walks out in jan because his signings were crap and we didnt give him more money .....
Walked out the back door by the way
I hope we smash 5 past boro

What I find annoying is that we were crying out for midfield reinforcements last season (having to play Lundstram every game remember) and at the back. Instead after every thing that had gone before, we then spunked £23m on another forward who was like a little kid who was learning a man's game. Absolute fucking insanity. Was Wilder trying to take the piss at thus point?

We could have brought in 2 or 3 top solid championship players so that we were ready for this season if the worst happened (I wanted us to get Ben Whiteman back before PNE nipped in) but we pissed away our final chance to salvage anything from that season and be set for the next / promotion push. Any extra money saved could have gone on the training facilities. Wilder was culpable for totally wasting an huge amount of money and was a liability for the last half a season of his tenure.

I was surprised he had the strength to lift the pen up, never mind spell his name on the paper..

The quote was reference to his spending. Every blade has thanks and praise for his efforts in picking us up by the shirt tails and taking us as far as he did. The problem that I and others have is what he did in the last 18 months of his tenure as he said one thing and did the other whilst blaming everyone else.

I was never a fan of the badge thumping one of our own crap but like everyone else I loved the ride he took us on, strange now though I’ve actually grown to dislike him, it should be the good times that are remembered BUT when I look at him its the terrible last 18 months of his tenure that I remember, i remember the way he walked out the back door a rich man, I think of his shit signings and the money he blew, I don’t like listening to his pre or post match interviews as it just sounds like same shit different day/club. He was great for a while and he had my full backing admiration and support, I don’t overlook how he left just because he got us to the prem in the first place like most do, truth his he was rewarded throughout his time with us for his achievements and he was backed by the board more than any other manager in our history. He won’t get a warm welcome from me when he returns with Boro nor will he get booed or abused I just really hope we smash the fuckers so hard he’ll have to stop off on the way home and get the beers in.

I wouldn't have a bad word to say about an employer who paid me more than 10k a week for doing absolutely nothing, in fact I'd walk round all day telling anyone who would listen I've got the best employers in the world I a very excitable fashion. This guy Rodwell is the definition of waster....or dosser as tyson would put it.

Players can be very averous creatures they are competitive boys that compete with each other regarding wages etc which buys them tne very nice bling in life taking or accepting a lesser contract is like conceding ground and they get the P took out of them (being polite) Ramsdale is the perfect example imagine a player being paid less then he’s not going to get off the bench unless he feels motivated.

Into the Prem - fair enough , a quite wonderful 3 years.
Then made a whole series of crap decisions , the effects of which got masked in our promotion "bounce" in a Prem that had completely underestimated us.
Brink of Europe , my arse - it was all sliding from early 2020 + when JoC was crocked , mistreated + not replaced , the end was nigh.
Then even shittier decisions in summer 2020 to give us an embarrassment of a season.
From which he tried to crawl away.
He ended up having done everything that he said he would not do - quite bizarre.
And we are so fucked by summer 2021 that we have to sell a GK to Arse yet still can't refresh the squad with any permanent signings.

Agree

I have no issue with a manager driving the board to burst the bank, his job is to win football matches, better players have more chance of doing that so why wouldn’t he? It’s up to the board to juggle his demands with the financials and sometimes tell him NO.

I equally have no issues with a manager been prudent with the budgets (Norwich) where it’s explained and you understand and accept yo-yo’ing

I do take issue with CW trotting out his rhetoric
“guardian of my club”
“Won’t risk the financial stability”

Whilst all along driving expensive (shit) signings

Then fighting for a payout from “his” club

Our 1st team was performing well, we needed squad players. Not that hard to understand without hindsight.

Our 1st team was vastly over performing
Fixed it for you

, we needed squad players. Not that hard to understand without hindsight.

We didnt need squad players we needed a replacement for the injured JOC and a creative midfield player
Wilder did sign squad players that was the problem Callum Robinson (then Burke) Jack Robinson, Rodwell,
Morrison, Freeman (not really given a chance) McBurnie deemed not good enough for the Championship
Bogle and Lowe there are probably a couple of others that Ive forgotten about
