I'm sure we could muster a forum eleven if we had to. Who fancies going in goal?

Getting away from Shirecliffe was a great idea. Freshen the minds and ideas of the players, away from any distractions in Sheffield.

Every team has had a strange pre season by normal standards.

yes, but getting away from Shirecliffe doesn't mean you have to fly to Spain, during a pandemic, play a dreadful Gibraltar team, two of your players get COVID and then the rest then have to isolate for a week.

Every team will have a strange pre-season but why didn't we stay in the UK?

The one plus for us that in signing no players at least no one will need to settle in.

Given that so far we've

started training without a manager
not had support staff in place for the start of training
Our chief scout has had COVID
we've played 2 teams, one very poor and one poor.
Lost a week of training
played two new formation in the two games we've played. Meaning that no one has had experience playing a new formation in a match for more than 90 minutes. Most 45 or less.
Had to leave players behind in Spain as they had COVID.
Signed no one

Hardly ideal. Some of that is beyond our control but it all adds up to a terrible pre-season and hardly a sound base to start from if you want to get automatic promotion.

Why is going to Spain (a country with lower rates of COVID than the UK) a daft idea?

Think the trip to Spain was essential got them away from Shirecliffe got them out of their normal routine, hot weather and forced them to focus, talk, learn, try a new training regime without any distractions.

As for Slav getting his idea's across again, its not just restricted to what they do on the training pitch, they will all have been given 'homework' videos etc

Got no real issues with trying to keep things normal and if we can rearrange a friendly with then hopefully that’s better.

Do think it’s going to be easier to get your ideas across on the pitch giving instructions seeing who’s picking it up best - compared to a zoom call or whatever. Does seem like we are behind the 8 ball because of the trio away

We might have to ask Birmingham for a 60 minute match at the rate. I hope the players have been putting in the extra hours.

I don’t think pre-season could have gone much worse for Slav. Let’s remember this and cut them some slack if we don’t get off to the best start.

Anything you are happy about?
On a serious note, we started training without a manager because of Slavs attitude and character, in that he wanted to complete a contract at his previous club, because he felt it was his duty, because he signed a contract, do you really have a problem with that?
No support staff in place? Again see above, decision by Slav.
Chief scout has had Covid, Pandemic! Having a job and or title doesn't make anyone immune.
Played 2 poor teams, planned game against the Portuguese team was cancelled, Pandemic, out of our control, in previous years we have played non league teams, nothing new.
Lost a week of training, Pandemic.
Played different formations,,so if we played Wilder ball, you would be complaining re no new tactics, your running out of things to complain about.
Haven't signed anyone, yes buying players is just as easy as getting a tin of bake beans from the supermarket.
Liverpool might or might not offload Shaqiri, Klopp might or might not want Elliott in the squad, Davies might have half a dozen choices where he moves to, you have no idea re what's going on in the background re transfers, no idea if offers were rejected, accepted subject to xxx

Have you ever heard the phrase ' a change is as good as a rest'
Getting away from Shirecliffe and not just the normal training regime, but the normal commute, and daily routine, sights and surroundings, increases the level of focus, plus a week away in close proximity on and off the pitch highlights for good and bad relationships/friendships in tge 1st team, builds moral etc

Have you checked what Birmingham and Swansea have been doing ? I don’t think we need to be unduly pessimistic

Just read an article re Tommy Doyle at Man City, apparently 10 Championship clubs have shown an interest on taking him on loan, we are one, but it highlights the problems, especially during/after Covid of getting players in on loan, no doubt more clubs than usual trying for loans

you appear to not understand the point. The point isn't that all of these are someone's fault. It's the fact it's hardly a great pre-season, is it? Hardly ideal. Or what we'd want. In reality, every club will have problems due to the pandemic.

You're interested in excuses. I'm interested in having my team in the best position to get promoted.

I am not interested or offering excuses, just facts, please do explain what 'we' could have done differently given Slavs contract situation and a World wide pandemic.
