Often disappointed, never discouraged
It was a pretty ropey game, as I remember it.
Most memorable thing, other than Webber’s goal, was that it was in the middle of another of those periods when the natives were revolting. I was sat with a geordie mate in their main stand, surrounded by home fans booing .... Scott Parker.
Err, I also remember loads of fireworks either side of the A1 on the way home, and thinking they were more exciting than the game.
Still, 3 points on the road, in the Prem, under the leadership of Botox Dracula ((c) Carlton Blade ). Collector’s item, or what.

The reverse home fixture this season was a great game, we were brilliant, ran them ragged from start to finish.

Nathan Blake destroyed them when we won 2-0, that was a good one. Sadly Hans Segers sent us down for a few quid.

New Year's Day 1955. My dad and Uncle mick 's dad got into the Lane 10 mins after kick off. My dad asked a spectator "What's the score?". "4-0 to United" was the reply. My dad told him to bugger off so he asked a few more spectators for the score but all came back with "4-0 to United". We had scored 4 in the first 8 minutes! The final score was 6-2

Can’t find the programme for that game, but I have the one for the following week, which has a picture of one of the goals, and a brief report of the game. 4 goals in the first 8 minutes is the way to start a New Year!
