Been thinking about this, and some of the material posted on well renowned and well informed sources such as Wilder's Army Not For Snowflakes, and it appears the knives are well and truly out for Wilder, to the extent that some clearly would love to see us get hammered just so they can put forward their own agenda of hammering Wilder and the players.

I really feel for Wilder and the players at this moment in time. He hasn't become a bad manager overnight and these haven't become bad players overnight either.

We are struggling more than most without the fans in. We have struggled missing key players through injury and Henderson having gone back to Manchester United

Our biggest summer signing is a talented young player with bags of ability and potential but needs time to grow and develop, which we haven't got.

I can't even remember an injury effecting us as badly as we are missing JOC. He was the fulcrum and heartbeat of the team, executed his role to perfection and didn't look out of place in the PL. He is very, very hard to replace.

After everything Wilder has done for us since 2016, we deserve to back him, allow him to make his own decisions and arrest the slide, and if we go down, we go down with him as we will come back up with him.
I agree with sentiment definitely where I’d differ is that for me our older senior players have suddenly become worse players they just aren’t as explosive or covering the same amount of ground they were last year. It’s not a great mystery just time and the intensity we have played at over the last 4 years taking its toll it’s just very unfortunate it seems to have happened to a considerable number of them at the same time.

Jesus Christ - the structure was to surrender ALL possession, ALL possibility of scoring and hope for the best.

Show me a team that gets a result having 20% of the possession. We’d have the ball for 18 minutes to Southampton’s 72. We don’t score at the best of times.

It’s not even like keeping it compact is working. We’re not keeping ANY clean sheets. if that’s our plan we are beaten before we even kick off.
Exactly right.

That wasn’t down to individual errors, that was a deliberate choice to setup that way from the manager.

20% possession at half time, while playing nobody with pace on the counter, means we’ve lost before we’ve even started.

You can’t sit in for 90 minutes and expect defenders to make 0 errors against premier league quality teams??
The best way to defend is to keep the ball.

Chris always said we don’t want to be a team that sits on our own cross bar? That’s exactly what we’ve become.

Where has this ability and potential been placed ? in Boris Johnson's freezer.

At least he didn’t use the phrase “we can’t go toe to toe with Southampton”.

Spot on. The biggest issue we have and have had for a while now is the lack of control that our midfield gives us.

We lose the possession stats game every single feckin week. Whilst we have the ball the opposition can't hurt us. We have the worst of both worlds at the moment as we are neither quick on the break (in which case we can sit in and let other teams boss midfield), nor are we having anywhere near enough possession in the middle of the park if we are going for a solid slow patient build up.

Our midfield is the main issue this season and I sincerely hope CW is looking to bring in some new faces in mid fie in early January. If not we are doomed this season.

What a weird interview. Going on about goals from the Wolves game etc. He seems to be a man who knows sadly it might be coming to an end. Hard to watch that.

I will say he’s right about mistake after mistake being compounded. The wolves game was our season in a nutshell.

He’s making mistakes but the players are suddenly playing like they have never played the game before. They need to have some professional pride otherwise they are going to go down as the worst premier league side EVER.

Looks like two loans. One Rojo. I suspect, if Lunny leaves, he'll have to get Rodwell out of deep freeze.

Completely agree.

Our success has always been built on patient build up working the wide overloads. We can’t do that with 20-30% possession every single week.

Drastic changes needed but I don’t have confidence that Chris is going to change it

He keeps saying its mistakes but a team that defends, offers nothing going forward, does not keep it for more than one pass, does not run around, tackle, press etc - then the other team will score at some point. It might be a mistake or moment of brilliance but they will score with 80% possession and several chances.

I've never really understood the over fascination with the manager's after match "views". They are inevitably PR / immediate overreaction shows.

We won every week, and people liked what Wilder said. We lose every week, and now they don't. The significance of it is in the result, not the content of the interviews.

Warnock, a really good manager, was marked down heavily for spouting shite after the match. Again, always lost on me.

Unfortunately that's only partly true. As much as I loathe him it's also one of Mourinho's paranoid fears.

For proof, think of the 90th minute of last week's game.

i agree. No one is playing above about a 5 out of 10 so far this season. The writing was on the wall with the team selection and they way we Played.

We are comical in defence and toothless in attack. But it must be confidence related 90% of this side have proved they belonged at this level. Now they fail to take chances, fail to control the ball or make a pass and make mistake after mistake at the back.

even a faultless defensive performance would lead to a 0-0. And we are past the stage that was any use to us, so I don’t know why that’s what we are hoping for.

Now Warnock was embarrassing. Like a stroppy child who is throwing his toys out of the pram.

The first 30 minutes today reminded me of my only time playing upfront as a kid. Playing against a team of younger players who put 9 outfield players in defence and hope to somehow get the ball up to their loan striker, somehow.

If you hang in what he says, yes. That's my point - don't. Warnock gets results, but talks shit after the match. So what?

Judge then on results. It's all that really matters.

Yes, you're right, but other fans watch these as well. In terms of Warnock, it was embarrassing that our manager was such a petulant child.

I think, with Wilder, many of us are looking for some kid of hope. Something to lift us. But we're not even getting honesty. At least, I hope he doesn't think the first 30 minutes were good because it's the worst I've ever seen in a league game.

I do get that. It's nice for the manager to offer hope.

But it's difficult when you're losing. "The players were shite" is an honest appraisal, but isn't going to help. "They were great" just pisses people, off.

That was Warnock's plan with always blaming the ref. It takes the pressure off his players, to keep tea cohesion. And it works for him.

Not really. The psychology of the game is critical. Take Keegan’s infamous rant. Everyone knew Ferguson had him once he did that. I watch Wilders interview to get a sense of what’s going into our play. At the moment, it still seems a bit too much emphasis on how good everyone we’re playing are. Translated onto the pitch, and our play is cowardly, we look scared to death of everyone.

My point is that, when you've got 1 point from 36, nothing he says is going to cut it. I get your jump from Wilder bigging up the opposition and us appearing scared. I just don't accept that it's cause an effect - it's coincidental.

What's much more cause is the act that we've spent over £100m, gone backwards ,and none of the signings really look up to it.

This is the most worrying aspect for me. Last year Wilder laid into the players after winning at Everton.
The first 30 minutes were awful. We struggled to get out of our half. Just because we hadn't conceded, surely doesn't mean that everything was OK. Chris never used to sugar coat it.

We need to change it around now. I'd go with three up top and try and play attacking football. If we get picked off at the back so be it. Bth, what the fuck is it going to matter anyway as our current tactics are seeing us get dicked on every week anyway.

If you are going to go down, at least go down swingin.

spot on we played 5 at the back today plus a defensive midfielder and we could still have been hit for 6 get mousset brewster and burke up front in a 433 anythings better than watching this week in week out

If the club are resigned to going down and Wilder knows he's safe in a job then why don't we just go back to the system that we utilised so well for the first 2/3 of last season? Play Stevens as left sided overlapping centre back (he has no excuse for not knowing or being able to play that role/position) and Osborn as left back?

...oh, and please don't try to convincr me we've been playing that system all along - we haven't. We've simply played the same formation.

Even better, if we're down anyway, just go back to the formation that served up the best football most of us have ever seen at the Lane. Get a number 10 in.

I'd rather us go down attempting to play attacking football and scoring the odd goal than the current eye-burning borefests we're seeing now.

It's not even a shot in the dark because we know for a fact it works.
