looks like vale could be asking for the same compo has donny want for SOD according to this..

http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.u...-Valiants/article-3041258-detail/article.html

for those who carnt open the link...

PORT Vale could hit Sheffield United with a £500,000 compensation claim if the Blades prise manager Micky Adams to his hometown club.Vale have granted United permission to speak to Adams about their manager's post after being approached by the Championship club last week.

The other front-runners for the United job, vacated by new Wales chief Gary Speed, include Brentford manager Andy Scott and Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll.

But if Adams, a self-confessed Blades fan, emerges as United's preferred choice, The Sentinel understands Vale would seek a compensation fee to match the reported £500,000 Rovers want for O'Driscoll.

"Compensation is an issue we'd talk about as and when something happens," said Vale chairman Bill Bratt.

"You'd have to look at the length of Micky's contract, plus calculate in any other consequential losses such as if home gates were to go down.

"If United want Micky, he's worth as much as anyone else as he's a top-class manager.

"It's obvious to everybody he's turned the club around, so he would be a massive loss. We just hope it doesn't happen for the club's sake."

The Blades have also approached Brentford about speaking to Scott, while Rovers chairman John Ryan has given them the green light to hold talks with O'Driscoll.

It is understood both Scott and O'Driscoll are on one-year rolling deals at their clubs.

Adams is under contract at Vale until the end of the 2011/12 season, but the club confirmed they have offered the 49-year-old an extension.

The new deal is believed to be until the summer of 2014.

Bratt said: "Micky has always been honourable and honest with us and we're being honourable to him.

"You can't stand in people's way, especially as United are his hometown club, but it's obvious we want to keep Micky and we had already offered him a new contract before this blew up."

so who would you rather pay the compo for adams or sod

Arguably Adams in my book, but probaby O'Driscoll. But it's not just down to that. It's about wages, the number of backroom staff they want to bring, the length of contract they demand and probably more importantly, if the want the job or not

If it were to go to a tribunal, i'm fairly sure they would ignore any claimed other financial factors by PV (Or Donny), and simply look at the value of the contract, and set the compensation based on that. in PV's case i doubt they'd get more than 200k. If O'Driscoll really is on a rolling contract then we're probably looking at a similar amount.

I'm beyond caring any more if I'm honest. The constant speculation and gossiping from Blades fans has killed any feeling of anticipation. It's like we've been shaking and poking our christmas presents since the start of December. Who cares any more? Just employ someone and let's get on with it with a sense of purpose.

Why cant we pay the compensation from the premier parachute payments, or the increased gate fees, or the transfer money from walker and his mate to tottenham, or the Tevez money, or the foreign investments, or the hotel takings? nuff said.

Mainly because any potential compensation we may have to pay isn't our only outgoing. Believe it or not, there are other costs involved in running a football club, such as big Nyron's wages :)

...or the compo. we got from Wales for Speed, or has that disappeared into the black hole known as McCabe?

Yes thats true, just ask some of the other big clubs like Wigan,Fulham,Blackpool etc, they must be so badly managed.

What are you trying to say?

Yes, like funding multi-million losses on disgraceful property ventures.

We all know what KMC has been trying but its getting old that we have to keep being reminded about it every few posts. He gambled and he risked money he probably shouldn't have, but it was his right to, SUFC have had to feel the strain but so will his own purse strings. Lets just hope they can turn things around in what ever way they can.

I'm not sure that people are aware of the extent to which his property ventures have stuffed the football club and as long as people keep basically ignoring it I'll be here reminding em I'm afraid Beech.

I don't think it's quite that simple.

Mr Hearsay said that the reason we have stalled on SOD, isn't just the compo issue. The other apparant reason is that SOD has stipulated he brings in all his backroom staff, 8 of them and we can't afford to do that.

I wud say we can't afford not too............. we need a reight good clear out at BDTBL.

Do you really think that Port vale will hold out for 500K?
I bet they would settle for 250K easy.

Go on then, exactly how much cash has the property venture taken from the football club(playing side)....don't quote the loss in the accounts as that relates to the write off rather than cash flow.

Please advise where you have got your figure from(rather than guess work)

I assume you'll continue to remind everyone how much KMc has spent elsewhere, such as removing those ventures from around the neck of the football club and converting his loan notes rather than taking the money back?

Or will we have another exclusive on Valad instead? :)

Port Vale could want £500,000 all they like, they would be lucky to get a tenth of that.
He's only contracted for another 18 months for starters.

I'm of a similar mind. I just know WHOEVER gets it, they'll get their 1.5 games of honeymoon period and then the knives will be out. You'd have to be completely f@cking mental to take it on.

latest from E89:

"I am led to beleive as of this morning ( but rather than get slaughtered, and say nailed on, so do NOT put hard earnt cash on it >;-) just yet ) Allegadally MA, is now in the final processes of becomming the leader of our beloved team after a series of follow up meetings ;-) , theres is one more formality to resolve, and it has progressed to the final stages and is currently in a much more advanced stage than the SoD fiasco,,,,, i can't say anymore as only TB can get the contracts signed at the final hurdle and a small matter of compensation will need settling, The powers to be have been a little split on this aproach, but now that has been resolved, i will keep you informed on progress, or any potential pit falls at the last hurdle

PS nowt cryptic in the above"

E89 does seem to get it right. Unfortunately !!

Hollow hollow words from Birch.
Yes he will keep us up this season. But so would SOD as well IMO with abit of backing.
Yet again the board have shown their true colours. Expect even less season ticket sales next season. Well done SUFC.

If SO'D didn't want the job, he didn't want it, I don't see how it's the fault of the club for not persuading him otherwise. Surely we don't want someone not fully committed, always looking over his shoulder waiting on the 1st bit of criticism. For anyone saying we've gone for the cheap option, I'm sure we could have got plenty in cheaper.

Adams wouldn't have been my choice and I doubt whether he would be in the frame if he wasn't a Blade but he does bring some things to the table we're in desperate need of. This is his dream job, the one he's been waiting for and he won't let anyone give less than 100%. It remains to be seen what kind of style he's going to bring to us but first and foremost we need points and he's a decent shout to get us going.

Here's hoping he approaches it with the same attitude as Holloway when he got another chance back in the Chumpionship and that the fans give him the clean slate and support he'll need.

Adams supporting United means next to nothing to me. It's simply a final nice bit of fluff. Getting 3 different clubs promoted, knowing the up and coming player pool, turning Port Vale around on a shoestring and playing nice football with seeming whole hearted supporter backing at the same time - that's presumably why the club are interested.

????? in terms of what? selecting who they think is the best manager for us to keep us up who is prepared to come to us ?

Why will season ticket sales reduce if we appoint MA as manager? Surely they would reduce further if SOD was employed then took us down. (in yor words,SOD would keep us up with backing...you seem to forget we haven't got money to spend therefore seem to acknowledge he will take us down.)

Where are the so called 'hollow words' from Birch. MA seems to fir the required criteria

Looks like McCabe didn't like a bloke with strong, clear ideas how to run SUFC as a football club - probably scared the hell out of him.
So it'll be back to the Blades Way.

He's also been pretty keen to take on tough jobs, which is something I wonder about with SOD.

Adams would not have been my 1st choice, but as this process has developed I am warming to the idea. The one thing that Vale fans seem to question though is his record of bringing through youth players, something which hasn't been evident in a lot of his jobs, so it'll be interesting to see how on board he is with the club's aims for the Academy. Good eye for a player though - 100k for Zamora when he was at Brighton for example.
