If we're looking for a replacement from the Championship then we'll have another 11 days to find one, but would imagine that won't be straight forward because no club wants to lose one of their better players late in the window - I'm referring to the window having 11 days to go not the one that ends today.

Since we've been linked with Championship players, todays deadline is almost irrelevant.

interesting that Duffy got bombed out the club after requesting a new contract where as lundstram is seeming undroppable despite refusing to sign an extension (whatever, it’s his right to do that) regardless of how he’s played for months.

Because maybe the way that those two players went about things and what they’re asking for is completely different.

Doesn't explain why he's nailing down a shirt though? He cost us the first goal against Wolves which set the tone, missed a pen at Villa, a sitter against Leeds and was a passenger at Arsenal.

Norwood who has just signed his soul to the club must be well pissed.

It's completely different though isn't it? Lunny is willing to honour the contract he signed up for, Duffy signed a contract and then wanted to renegotiate a few months later.

We may think Lunny is delusional in his expectations regarding a new contract and see his shortcomings as a player, but he's not acting in bad faith with the club like Duffy was. He isn't morally obligated to sign a new contract.

And the funny thing is that many of those who have slagged Lundstram off for most of his time here are now having a dig at him for not showing loyalty.
 
The argument about why Lunny is getting a start all the time, is one I can't answer, but I do think he is a player worth holding onto.

He can play with both feet, can cover a lot of ground, has the physicality that is often required, and can chip in with some goals.

At present, he looks like the only midfield player we have who could actually score a goal. Sander needs to rove forward more and shoot more. Flecky seems to have gone off the boil somewhat.

Is he a long term player for us?, probably not, but we all know that we don't have deep pockets and unless another teams comes in for him and we get some money from a sale, I don't see how we are going to replace him.

On the general midfield questions, I am not sure why the model that served us well for most of last season (Norwood dictating our play from in front of the defenders) has been dropped, but it has (for now, at least).
 
Controversial opinion.

I’d bring Norwood back in his normal role.
I’d move Berge to RCM where he’s been very good
I’d love Lundstram to LCM as he’s the most two footed midfielder we have.
I’d leave Fleck out for now.


I love Fleck btw.

I agree with Berge back to RCM if we're sticking with a flat three. I'd have Lunny as a backup though. Unless there is something specific up with Fleck, I'd persevere with him at LCM. He's not going to refind his firm on the bench.

HOWEVER, given CW's comments on being a bit braver going forwards, I can see us going back to a 2-1 in midfield. I would love to see us try two of Ampadu / Berge / Norwood holding and one of Didsy / Fleck behind the strikers.

I’ve been looking back at our (fairly recent) better performances and they all included Norwood playing CDM and Berge playing RCM. We have to go back to this in my opinion if we want to have any sort of a threat going forward.
