CONFIRMED Rhian Brewster

Look, if we can get a deal through that fits within what we decided at the start of this window was financially viable for us, great.

But if we can’t get it through without going over the budget we’ve set ourselves, and without putting the club at risk, so be it and move on to the next target.

A reason why I suggested a low-budget freebie for our backup RWB was so that we could divert the other resources into a striker. We’ve not done that, and I’m pleased with the value we’ve got for the new wingbacks who represent long-term investments that can also have an impact now. But it does have the obvious potential knock-on effect on what we have left to spend.

Much like the under-the-radar Bogle/Lowe deals while the Cash negotiations went nowhere, I doubt we’ve been simply putting all energies into the Brewster deal. We’re at a point of the window where the business going on will be likely making some players available who weren’t even a few weeks ago, and I won’t be surprised if we ultimately end up with a good signing up front for a player that has barely a handful of rumour mill thread pages...
No good talking common sense mate, it'll never catch on.

If this is the player and agent playing clubs off against one another then move on. I would like him to sign but frankly this saga has become boring now and without even having put on a shirt for us I’m sick of hearing his name.

Give him/Liverpool/whom ever a deadline and then move on. The longer we hang about the more time is lost. Each game is important. It’s another one tonight that any potential signing is going to miss.

Happy to be proved wrong, but can't see it happening.

It seems we are trying extremely hard to get this over the line, but we look to be a few bob short and feels like we've pushed hard on the softer (development-led) sell to Liverpool and Brewster.

The romantic in me suggests this would be enough, but can't see it happening.

Regardless of how we paint it we still arent really (relatively) an attractive proposition for players, the sway of working under Wilder we often see as an Ace up the sleeve, more often than not isn't going to be enough.

From a development point of view, i think game time is by far and a way the biggest influence and opportunity for a young player to develop.

Much more than the influence of any manager or coaching staff.

Whether Brewster would develop more at us or Palace, for me, would come down to game time. You'd suspect we'd offer him a starting role, but if Palace hace given similar assurances and in all liklihood an extra half a million quid a year why would he join us?
Sadly you have to say that realistically he's got more chance of playing for England if he's at Palace than if he's with us. We're a bit too unfashionable and unorthodox for any England manager to take a punt on. I firmly believe that if Hendo had been ours, and not a Man U loanee, he wouldn't have been called up.

So we seemingly can't afford him on a permanent this summer? If true CW/AK have been thrown under the bus by the ownership. It makes me wonder if it'll be the same next year with the other half of the mortgage still needing paying. Chris was uncharacteristically forward with the press re Brewster which supports this theory.
"thrown under the bus by the ownership"?

In what way?

CW/AK knew from the start what the budget was and chose to spend it other areas, despite two board members voting against one of the deals.

If they have spent all they had then that was their decision, and doesn't constitute being "thrown under the bus by the ownership" in any shape or form.

He's followed all of those lot for ages.
i fell for this too... he also follows Ayew and Eze more recently so if you're a Palace fan you could be excited about this too... (last person he followed from us was rambo and he wouldve been at bournemouth then i reckon), before that it was OMB but looks like that was in context to a few other Swansea players followed

Palace favourites on skybet now for Brewster 🙄
I don't know how many times you need to be told this, but:

ODDS. FOR. PLAYER. TRANSFERS. ARE. BASED. ON. BETTING. ACTIVITY. NOT. INSIDER. INFORMATION.

It's not like a game, where experts can make an informed decision about the outcome. It's purely based on how much money is being put on a player.

Now, it could be that someone had insider information and lumped a load on it, but given the implications around that, it doesn't happen as often as you might think.

By being given a tiny budget in comparison to our rivals on top of a tiny wage budget?! The fact we had board members voting against paying 3-4 million for a wing back is also worrying. He's the soldier being sent to war with a spud gun.

Who was the last player to get an England cap playing for Palace? Do they have anyone who looks more likely to be called up than JOC?

Wilder said he was happy with the budget.

Was he lying?

He will push for as much as he can get but he knew the parameters that he was working within.

Also to add, there will be a max stake placed on transfers and it won’t be large, £50 or something. Go and stick £50 on him to sign for us and we’ll move back closer to being favourites, it’s that simple/fickle.

Zaha has been wanting to leave for 2/3 seasons. But nobody willing to pay what Palace want.

Someone should tell Rhian that we'll let him move on if he becomes so good that Champions League clubs want him. If he goes to Palace he may be stuck there like Zaha.
