Seen loads of comments around on social saying it should've been a red

Felt bad for the lad but that's not a red for me. He won the ball cleanly and they clattered afterwards. In that split second there's no way he could've removed his leg and if he waited for the ball to fall lower the other player would've nipped in.

Agree, maybe a yellow for having a high foot on the follow through at the most, but there was zero malice.

It was rash and the whole wind-up before trying to kick the ball as hard as possible is a bit odd, but I think it was more wild than any intent behind it. He may well have walked with VAR though. He basically booted the ball and then booted the man. The whole action was pretty odd.

He didn't boot the man. He followed through on a genuine push for the ball and at the same time the other player collided into him hurting himself on the process. It was a solid hard fair tackle and he completely won the ball.

I've simply posted the photo. FWIW I thought it was a solid tackle with no intent to injure but with an unfortunate outcome.

I dont understand how it is a red he gets the ball and wins the ball well before the contact. If Robinson pulls out of that tackle they get the ball in an dangerous area. He is a defender and is trying to get that ball clear and out of the danger area as he does. Gudmundsson has the chance to leave the ball as well but decided to keep pushing for it. It was clear Robinson was winning the race so if he didnt want to risk injury could have pulled out of it thats the risk with a 50/50 ball one player tends to get contact after because of the matter of time between the ball and the players both players know the risk going for them. The still picture makes it look very nasty but in the speed of the game I think its unfortunate to catch the player like that but no intent and no red.

I genuinely can't tell if it's an honest clearance or one of the worst challenges I've seen. The way he hits him is horrendous and I'm not sure why he leaves the ground and follows through the way he does. On the other hand it looks pretty hard to time that deliberately, he's clearing the ball cleanly, and it could just be awful luck. Either way I hope it's not as bad as looks, could be a serious injury.

All about momentum. Once he decided to play the ball, it is very difficult to prevent the follow through. I don’t think there was any malice and he took the ball cleanly. Anyone thinking he could have then somehow stopped his own momentum hasn’t ever had a kick about or done physics in school!

Referee and Lino (right on the spot) got it right.

Solid clearance (not a tackle) and Gudmundsson realised he wasn’t going to get there first and as can be seen in the picture turned his back across the path of Robinson who had nowhere to go. Play on is correct decision.

Ah I see, didn’t know that was a rule for this season. But yeah VAR sends him off for that.

We’d all be majorly pissed off it was the other way round.

It’s about if he’s out of control these days rather than if he’s malicious. I think that those saying VAR would have decided on red are probably right in my opinion.

He got to the ball before the Burnley man. At the time he "lunged" in the Burnley man looked like he was going in for a 50/50. He didn't. He neshed it and turned his back, this is why there was a follow-through.

I'm not qualified to comment on whether he meant it or not, only he is. Maybe they don't like each other?

He was reckless and out of control. Straight red under the current rules. He put an opposition player in harms way through employing reckless force

Think he's about right. If it had been a red I'm not sure I'd be complaining about it.

For me, yes seemingly no intent but (bear with me here) what if there was intent and getting the ball first was Brucey bonus? Than can neither be proved or disproved of course.

My call would have been a Red I'm afraid.
