Is our transfer inactivity beginning to worry anyone?

There has only been 6 weeks break between seasons - far too short a time to get deals sorted out; look at the inactivity across the rest of the league.

And I guess PL teams may be playing brinkmanship with Championship sides due to lack of income from crowds.

I don't think "inactivity" is the right word, sorry to be pedantic btw, but I think we are being very active, it's just that there are a lot of other factors at play and it's a case of keeping up our interest and seeing it through. It sounds like some of the players we are chasing are keen on coming here. I'm not including Antonee Robinson in that, he sounded like he was on the fence about our interest from the start, but the likes of Cash and Swift appear to be keen, if we can believe what's been reported in the media?

The good thing about all this is, there'll always be other fish in the sea. We just need to get our bait out and keep dangling it.

Better to ask the question after we have played Arsenal on the 3rd Oct,four games into the season, with just 2 days of the window left open.

I'll tell thee now we will all be smiling or shittin bricks one way or the other.

It is me, a little. Not that the club are at fault, in anyway.

We seemingly set our stall out fairly early doors: Swift, Robinson, Cash - promising youngsters who can grow with us, grow in value and eventually become staples of our side. The right price, sizeable investment for our club, but still manageable financially.

Now, Robinson has gone elsewhere and Cash and Swift seem to have stalled. What worries me most is that we have never been a more enticing proposition to new players than we are now. Strong squad, media darlings, finished 9th, attractive football.

Sign these players now, and we continue to press on and improve. Fail to do so, or to sign improvements and we risk standing still or faltering. Any momentum last season bought us in the transfer market will be lost and we'll be at risk of being just as exciting an option for future signings as Burnley are...

Nope

Have we got enough players to fill a squad? Yes. So I am not worried. I would be worried if we only had 10 players and there was a few days till the proverbial window shuts!!

My only concern is the lack of activity from other clubs

I think we will get guys in I’m just not convinced we won’t be gazumped for our main targets and end up getting bodies in just to fit a need

Is anyone gonna chuck a perspective post in this thread? It's fucking desperate for one!

When you look at the signings other clubs are making there's really not a lot of money being spent outside of Chelsea and Man City. The Ramsdale fee probably puts us in the top half of teams for spending so far. Most of the movement is free agents. The lad we missed out on to Fulham was a £2m fee who probably felt he had a better chance of breaking into the first team there. It's not like we missed out in a bidding war.

It's weird times and this will be a weird window. Not much else to say.

Not worried, but it would be nice to see some players coming in.

The problem is, we are fishing in the same pond as a lot of other teams, mid / lower prem and upper championship. We are just another player in that game. You will get players like Robinson who will just follow the money (must be the reason as I do not think Fulham are more of a pull other than that) and you will get teams like Villa who just seem to be looking over our shoulder and copying our work.

Wilder will only pay what he thinks a player is worth, this I agree with. We will see soon enough

Ridiculous

Not at all.

I think there is still the thick end of £30 million to spend, and it will get spent. I'd love the Brewster signing to be genuine and be disappointed if it was a loan, I think there is a big chance that we land Matty Cash. Burke I think is a shot for nothing and I think at least one more signing.
Then we're onto the loans to complete the gaps.

Given that, I think we're in a good place squad wise as most positions are covered with superior options to last season, left sided midfield aside.

Not at all. The keeper situation has been solved without a repeat of the last minute stuff with Hendo's loan agreement last season which could have been a disaster. Wilder seems to be playing his cards close to his chest which is fine with me. Arguably its a daft time to do too much business anyway considering a few prem clubs appear to be fishing in the same pond this year and you have the likes of Dean 'The Original Thinker' Smith running round offering to gazump everything he sees. Agents can have a field day starting bidding wars as long as Villa are spaffing promises of cash everywhere.

Once Villa land someone and actually have to back up an offer, I'd hope they'd calm down a bit and things can get a bit more sensible.

If we said to players ā€œsign now or we move on....we’d hardly sign a single decent player.

The truth is that the better players will always have more power and plenty of options.
We could speed everything up by overpaying on the transfer and salary but Wilder has explained we try to acquire value for money.

Bettis has a great track record to date of generally getting his man......he’s earnt our trust...he seems to know what he’s doing.
All the evidence suggests there’s nothing to worry about.

I seem to remember a growing panic over lack of incoming player, before the start of last season. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but that didn't turn out too bad. Wilder and Bettis have got this, they know who they want and how to get them, at times patience is required. AND!! Wilder and Bettis are busy shaping Villa's recruitment at the moment, suggesting players they will SPUNK loads of cash on then look confused LOL!!!!. Mr Wilder had that twinkle in his eye when he commented on 'Lazy Recruitment'

We've changed tactics and now stalk every prospect that Fulham and Villa are interested in, so there's a time lag in the whole process.

To follow the thread.........."grow some bollocks man" !

Seriously though, I can see your point. Before it was easy to get low cost, low interest players in. It was also relatively easy last July/August although selling clubs Swansea/B'mouth did hold up McB and Moose so that they weren't ready for the start of the season.

CW has said recently, it's difficult in the present market we're shopping in and his jibe at Villa seemed to highlight the frustration he's having.

I'm sure he's comfortable with our 1st 11 and most of the stand-ins in case of injury.

We do need to make progress with signings but I believe the Prince mentioned quality not quantity during last season which won't mean many signings, but if they fall through I doubt CW would panic buy and just buy anyone. We've got Ramsdale, which may not have been on the cards last season, but Man U have moved the goalposts with Hendo, hence the purchase of Rambo.

The recent rumours of now trying to buy Brewster could be another player in the quality bracket as well as being young and hopefully hungry.

As a club we can't ever be a prolific spender of money - it will be a slow burner all the time with perhaps the squad players changing more often where we will take chances with them ie: Burke.

All in all, we've just got to do it differently to other clubs - probably because CW & AK are different to others even if at times it feels as though we're not doing anything.

We'll be reyt :)

UTB

For all we know 2 deals could have been agreed already and signed but we need to wait for Wilder to get back for the 'photo with contract shot' for the media team.

Bold predictions here... we will get

Cash
Brewster

Just to put some perspective in this window

Blades have spent the 5th most in this transfer window of Premier League Clubs

The below 4 are the only clubs that have spent more than us so far.

Chelsea £81m
City £67.5m
Arsenal £27m
Southampton £22.9m

We have brought in 2 players Fodders & Rambo

Only 5 teams have brought in more players

Leeds 8
Chelsea 6
Brighton 5
Arsenal 4
City 4

In conclusion chill the fuck out.

If we kick off the season with the squad we have now plus possibly a couple of signings we'll be fine. More bothered about outgoings personally

Not at all.

I think there is still the thick end of £30 million to spend, and it will get spent.

The problem is if we cant close on our preferred targets. Especially with the competition around (losing out to clubs in and around us).

We only have paper talk ( bullshit) at the minute though, so im happy to let it all play out. But the paper talk has me slightly worried yeah.
