There's a lot of pressure on the rest of the recruitment now. Our starting position is a significant reduction in the quality of our goalkeeper based on last year's performances. We need a lot more goals at the right end to counteract this.

I'm going to need to see a highly selective YouTube compilation of routine saves before I can fully judge if he's better than Cakir.

fwiw, I think Hendo is very good but was flattered by what was infront of him. Ramsdale will also have that protection now so it'll be nteresting to see just how he compares when he's not playing behind Nathan Ake and 9 colanders.

All things considered its a fairly safe signing at market rate.

Would be a cracking signing possibly just signed the next best English GK prospect after deano and a possible United no1 for the next 10 years.

It is a lot of money for a GK with only one season in the prem but it could potentially be an absoloute bargain if you look at similar player Pickford/Pope
Well said

It will be interesting to see just how good Rambo can be behind the brick wall of Bash/Egan/JoC

and also just how good Deano is without said brick wall in front of him.

We have an awful lot of supporters who haven’t come to the terms with the reality of being a top ten premiership club.We are now playing with the big boys with fat wallets,if we want to progress at this level,we have to get used to paying £20m circa for premier league players, that’s life !! I actually think that all things considered the fee for Ramsdale is just about right.

You mean 'Will be a cracking signing'?😎

I hope he's better than I rate him. The times I have seen him he has looked dodgy but he was behind a terrible defence. A big drop in class from Henderson imo. It really feels to me that it's a gamble that could make us struggle next season, I really hope I'm wrong.
Hes here now so will have to get behind him.

The upside is they must be looking at getting about 90 million for Brooks at these prices.

Based on my experience of watching Ramsdale through last season and seeing footage of Cakir and reading reports and stats on him, I was favouring the latter. Seemed a grounded lad too who wasn't going to be misbehaving away from football.

That said he's naturally more of an unknown quantity.

If we're now buying rather than loaning there's more to consider.

Ramsdale knows the club, we know him, presumably Wardy will have had input, he's young with the chance to improve, and will fit into our financial structure.

I think a very good keeper is absolutely vital at this level, more so than in the leagues below where a decent team can get away with a mediocre keeper sometimes.

If this is the one then all aboard the Rammers train.

I'll reserve judgement on Ramsdale. I was also hoping we'd be signing the Turkish bloke, but I can see the upsides with bringing Ramsdale back given his age and previous links with the club. Ability wise - I'm really not sure. I only saw the briefest of glimpses of him when he was here before - my abiding memory of him was that he was a bit slow - but that's a long time ago and hopefully the lad has developed into a top keeper. I'll be interested to read Roy's "view from Bournemouth fans" on him.

Fleck, Baldock, Egan, O'Connell, Stevens, Lundstrum, Norwood, McGoldrick - Fuck me CW knows how to get great value of out players
Couldn't agree more but none of them cost mega bucks like those I've listed. CW is a diamond especially at getting a cheap signings who go on to prove to be quality players. How many of those on my list would we show a profit on if sold now.

I await a separate montage to be posted for all to view and be discussed😉
I'll start with Rambo. You can do Cakir....

I know I'm in the minority here, but I interpret the fee as £18.5m gross including the sell on 15% means net £15.7m

Which I think might tie in with old articles saying we haven't bid enough and that Cherries want £15m

I could be completely wrong (but it isn't very often 😁 )

As for Ramsdale, I rate him. He's always looked good. Full of confidence. Commands his defence. However, do I think the fee is a little too high? Unfortunately yes, but what do I know?

Top signing, we have our keeper for the next decade now and he's young with premiership experience, knows the club well and wants to be here. What's not to like?

Ignore the fee, Cakir would have been more and hed have a new country, a new language and a new league to adjust to.

This also puts to bed the Henderson circus..and it will be interesting to see where this leaves him.

Well done CWAK on tying this down well before the start of the season....and also very well done the owners in backing the management teams judgement.
Yep Nothing not to like
Young keepers make mistakes Some on here seem to think Hendo never made any
It isd not the mistakes it is how keepers react to them Ramsdale is like Hendo in that respect alone

18,5 million is a lot of money for a GK, but Ramsdale is only 22 and already showed great potential in the Premier League. Sure, Henderson is probably the better GK atm but we have to solve the GK position permanently. Not even mentioning that Man Utd asked to cover most of his wages and a big loan fee. I'm more than okay with Ramsdale.
But in a years time When Ramsdale has been playing PL football every week and Hendo bench warming at Old Trafford?

Henderson conceded about 10 goals less than was statistically expected in terms of the quality of shots on target faced last season (Kepa was a disaster!)
Ramsdale was kind of average last year, conceding about as many as was expected

Here I plot the save % vs. shots on target faced in the PL:

PL GK.png

Bottom left = suggests good defence, poor GK. Top right = poor defence, good GK.
Again Hendo stands out with the 3rd best save % in the league, Ramsdale is 15th.

I also add in the Turkish league below. Cakir looks good with the 3rd highest save % in the league. However it is a lower standard of league and ideally I'd have the expected goals prevented on target data (the first chart, which helps to adjust for that fact that a keeper might be saving many low quality shots).
