Let’s not carried away after that lucky 1-0 win over an extremely poor team. In front of an embarrassingly low crowd, we couldn’t get the better of a piss poor side. Had it not been for some luck (Treacy hitting the bar) and some shite finishing by King we’d still be bottom. Despite taking the points we were equally as bad as Preston and it’s a good job our new Froggy singing had his shooting boots on (something our strikers didn’t!!?). It was a great strike, but other than getting off then bottom of the table I’m struggling to take any positives out of the game.

Sure the clappers will slam me for this (if they read it :roll eyes: ) and say something along the lines of ‘it’s the points that matter’ or la de da. However the performance and particularly the personnel is very worrying. Speed might be trying to play more football, but with those plebbs that Blackwell left behind he has a massive job on his hands. Our strikers are completely and utterly toothless with Evans looking like a Sunday league striker (and Malta’s finest hardy putting pressure on). Ward is finally fit for more than 3 games in a row, but that is at the expense of his sharpness. We have 3 defensive midfielders of which one can pass forwards and one can’t even pass backwards to a Red and White shirt. Our full backs look half decent, but central defence is very worrying. Nosworthy is a complete liability, Bartley gets shoved around likes a powder puff and Morgan has lost it. We look to the bench and see that our squad is completely lacking any quality.

Sure we took 3 points (thank fuck) but these 4 games have shown how truly awful we are. We can’t score for toffee (2 goals in 4 games is pathetic). Our most dangerous players (Cresswell and Ward) look as ineffective as super Ched. The defence is all over the shop and the midfield has 3 players of the same mould (one bad, one ok and one decent). We have absolutely no pace, little skill and no quality. Couple that with no width, a lack of confidence and no flair and you have a relegation battle o your hands.

The red and white side of Sheffield have showed that they are not happy with the shit that Blackwell has left behind. Despite a special offer and a new manager we can’t even get 20’000 fans. Nuff said.

On top of that the pie that I had at half time was absolutely horrible. The girl who served me was a complete plank and my Bovril was all stoggy at the bottom. Micalijo told me that Blackwell’s wife is still working in the kitchen on the South side of the kop. There was loads of traffic coming through Attercliffe at midday and I got stuck there for ages. Surely McCabe could clear the streets for all Blades fans on Saturdays. I had a shit pint in the Cremorne on London Road and then some twat spilt beer on my shoes. I paid £70 for them fookers. On the way home I got wet and my brolly broke in the wind. I ended up getting soaked. I bought that umbrella from the club shop. Then I tried to shelter in one of McCabe’s construction sites, but it was leaking. Before when I was in the centre I ran for the tram. The driver saw me running, but despite the rain he set off. I could have swore it was Birch. Aren't Sheff Utd advertising on the trams? I know we are skint, but Tricky Trev moonlighting on the Super Tram takes the biscuit. And WTF, he see's a guy in a Blades shirt and drives off without picking him up. Bastard. After I got home I was moaning so much about Sheff Utd that we didn’t go out on Saturday night. I was so upset at our shit performance that I didn’t even eat me supper and our lass wouldn’t give me a blow job. Fucking Sheffield United fooking my Saturday’s

To quote internets "too long; did not read" but I've read it before; just in another thread.

You took a brolly to the football?

No, just a twat

Bit uncalled for. I point out that a few home truths and you come back with insults rather than any argument. Big Mart got banned for a similar style of posting ...... in fact his was much more constructive.

I just don't understand the negativity ollie.

You've said yourself that Gary Speed has got a job on with the squad he's been left, so why the constant barrage of negativity? We won, although judging by the highlights it was a bit lucky as clearly there is some defensive work to be done.

But we won, Speed has his first win, and we're off the bottom. Happy days.

Resorting to name calling seems a little over the top. This is an internet forum. Being totally honest I disagree with a lot of what Olle said in that post and feel that it is just an excuse for a moan, which is almost self-confessed by his final paragraph....and I found that quite amusing to be fair as it was meant to be take in a light hearted fashion :)

People are entitled to their opinion whether we agree or not and calling someone a twat for it is a little strong....sorry just my opinion. Ive said it in the past, if you dont like what someone has posted just ignore it and move on.

People who start negative threads open theirselves up to abuse I will admit that, but in this case and many others....its obvious thats what it was started for (to get a reaction). All abuse does is show the person that they have succeeded. So 1-0 Olle really im afraid

I'm apparently a "Major Clapper" and I have to say that I left the game pleased for the win, but slightly worried. I have said to others that we need to be patient and I should take my own advice, Speed needs at least 10 games to settle the team down. And there were promising signs.

But I left with more to be concerned about especially the Attendance! Even with special offers of £15 to take a mate and a reasonable turn out from Preston, we managed just under 20,000... Not great!

We set up with a very strange 4-5-1/ 4-3-3 formation which just didn't work, Cresswell and Ward looked dire and Ched got no support. None of them are fit.

The football, pretty as it was and we kept possession in spells, was Robson-esque. Too much sideways stuff. Britton was too deep and it left Monty to be the attacking midfielder. If this is the way we play, then we can't play Monty and Britton in those positions. Monty, for his obvious faults was the only player wanting to run at the defence.

The irony was that the football which was effective was the 2nd half, more direct stuff. But the crowd only cheered the uninspiring sideways crab football!

Preston were awful. If Boro were the worst team i've seen us play in years, then Preston were a close second.

The Back 5 were fairly solid although Simmo didn't have much to do, he looked slightly nervous. Nozza for his criticism wasn't that bad. But Bartley was excellent along with Calve and Jordan.

All in all I know its early days and with a break coming up hopefully we can work on a few things.

1. Keep practicing passing, but more importantly practice movement. We need movement
2. Practice Corners, but keep Jamie Ward off them.
3. Get the strikers fit and get them to wear bright yellow vests and flashing Beacons, midfield are struggling to find them
4. Most importantly, get us playing 4-4-2 at home!!!

Got to put things in perspective, but we have work to do

Swiss, Our midfield would struggle to find their socks never mind the strikers!!!
Monty is not the saviour you and many on here believe he is - and as long as he is a regular in the midfield they will always struggle to find the strikers. Monty for all his appearances struggles to find any red and white striped shirt never minf specific targets!!!
We need pace and thought in midfield with a creative streak three things that Monty is incapable of!!!
Mind you, weve needed that since the 2003 season when we had Brown and Tonge (when Tonge really played well) orchestrated by McCall now that was a decent midfield!

Fiery - read what I wrote about the midfield. I said Monty was the only one trying to get forward.

If Britton is the new Macca then we can't play Monty as he's no use going forward. But we need Monty to break up the play, so for me, Britton needs to get his arse further forward

I agree with your comments on Midfield, but at the moment, the only player attempting to take the ball forward is Monty.

Totally pointless practising passing if we have no pace and if Monty is going to play. Seeing Monty run aimlessly (without the ball) around the edge of their area as the attacking midfielder in first half was totally laughable.

It will be like Robson as you say if Speedo doesn't get pace in, although if I say that I get lambasted for negativity.

Preston were cack, our front three were all over the show, and we were indeed lucky to get the win. But considering the utter bobbins we've seen at the start of this season and also at the end of the last one then can I please get carried away just for a few minutes? I'm not talking about running the length of The Moor with my pants on my head, but a saunter home with a spring in my step isn't too much to ask, is it?

But who else was willing to do the job Mic, don't have a go at Monty for doing the job when we've got nobody else willing or capable of doing that job either.

Our Front 3 got nothing. I didn't understand why we went with this 1 (or 3) up front.

I was surprised to see Ward stay on ahead of Ched.

No no no. At one time I would have agreed with you but the whole point of playing Britton in the "anchor role" so to speak....is that it enables us to play a different way. Having a good ball playing midfielder playing in front of the back four encourages the centre halves to look for the short option instead of hoofing it. Britton was used in this way at Swansea and with considerable success at times.

The problem we have is that after Britton, Monty and Ertl arent right for playing that high up the pitch. That is the problem, not Leon. Britton is very effective at building play from his own half so using him in any other way is a waste of his abilities. What we need to do is get better box to box players up ahead of him. The likes of Williamson and Tonge are good examples.

IMO....if we're going to play this way, I would sooner see Willo and Quinn up ahead of Britton when available but then you sacrifice having a ball winner. It all depends on how you want to play. If you want United to pass the ball you have to play Britton in the deep role....if you would rather see Monty there, expect United to be pinging 60 yard "passes" - this is where a good manager finds a way to strike the balance!

Agree getting personal isn't really needed is it sheffielder.

If you disagree with him, just say so. It's too easy to call people names.

Swiss, On Saturday we went with three defensive midfielders when we really only need one plus two creative players - Britton is the obvious choice for the Dm position playing just in front which leaves openings for two others Willo when fit, perhaps Yeates.
Monty is surplus to requirements in my book Silk Purse and Sows Ear comes to mind!!!

noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apart from your earlier suggestion of Britton, do you have a better suggestion???? :)

Dont get me wrong, Quinn has been truly awful when he's played so far this season....but I would dare say he's technically better than Monty....just!

You've depressed me now Swiss, our conversation as highlighted our lack of options

Neither Quinn or Monty should get into the starting line up
Quinn is slightly the better player and Monty is the better trier but neither are good enough and we need to ditch both if we are to progress football wise!
Britton can play football, pass to players in the same colour shirts and not afraid to hold onto the ball neither Quinn or Monty possess these attributes!

I think quinn can come back and be a good footballer. Every midfielder we have had has been ruined by Blackwell. I think Quinn can get back that talent he once had. Just not suited to the utter crap we were playing

Not only was he not siuted to crap football he played an integral part of it being key in almost every game the Blackwell was in charge.
Yes he was a far better prospect than the player he is now and I would put most of it down to Blackwell But Elpiton must change if he is to be part of Speedos plans otherwise he's surplus to requirements!

I remember a few years ago we had a young lad, one of the Quinns, who was quite good when we had our one season in the Premier League. Little ginner lad, brother came from Wendy. What happened to him? Is he related to the Stephen Quinn that's a bit shit now?

Personally I think its our weakest position....

My issue with Quinn is that the only place we should play him is on the left. Not the middle.

Anyone think Ched could play the attacking midfielder role?

Kerry Katona possibly, the rest of us - no.

I wish someone would carry ollie away...

All these 'home truths', frankly I dont care. We all know we are still a long way away from the finished item. Stop stressing and let the manager get on with it. He's done OK in 2 weeks.

Whatever happened to being more positive, or can't you help yourself..?
