People still worship Chris Brown like a god and he likes to knock women about too so I think we might be alright to walk out to Comeback Kid still.
 
We'd likely only use it three more times so anyone who gets their knickers in a twist about us changing it are the real snowflakes
 
Maybe he should get together with the remains of The Prodigy and release a version of Smack My Bitch Up. Just sayin like....

It gets political, in a way, but the issue is around burning anything and everythjng associated with a person accused of wrongdoing.
The comments reflect peoples weariness of witch hunting and burning and trial by media / trial by Social Media.
Obviously IF he was convicted (we still have trial by court in this country, as far as I understand), the discussion can be had.
What about the Premier Leage Club Funds Musicians Drug Habit With Bin Laden Money headline? We'd be reduced to coming on to St Winifred School choir.

We need to seperate the art from the performers. Todays 'cancel culture' is fucking poisonous.

Imagine Bowie, Lennon, Jagger et al in todays society? Now they did do some fucking questionable things

There’s plenty of songs that are fine, from albums I used to listen to, but in a stadium doesn’t work. That fits within that category for me. It seemed to suck the life of what had been a decent building up of the atmosphere.

The Star Wars theme is similar – a great piece of music, but really clearly associated with something else and was overused by us in keeping it for multiple years. I’d actually much rather we went with something I care less about. The Kasabian one fit the bill there – it’s just a bit of a shit song, deployed shitly by us playing the track then G-Sinc pressing the restart as the players walked out.
 
Irrespective of the Kasabian guy, I'd like a change, I think Comeback kid is ok nothing special though.

Razors edge by ACDC would be great and obviously the title fits in with the Blades! To me the intro needs to have an intimidating intro, something hat makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. Razors edge does that! Essentially its only the intro that matters, unless we play the song well before the players come out and then part way through Gary Sinclair comes in and then does his bit at he climax of a song etc.

Depends on the scale and how easuly you can seperate. In general I agree. I also struggle with Jackson or Glitter stuff though.

Something a bit edgy that separates us from the normal bland obvious stuff would be good. A local edge to it too would be an extra bonus.
 
i dont get the issue with this because nobody has stopped playing micheal jackson. after all his faults, so why are we stopping 1 song for kasabian.

Fans of Jimmy Page, David Bowie and Mick Jagger would do well to look up the name Lori Mattix/Maddox, for instance, if they think today's stars are any worse than those of the past.

I agree about cancel culture, but at the same time the club can get shut of Kasabian if they want, I think it can't be equated to, say, withdrawing their records from sale.

Absolute vile cunt that he is, Gary Glitter had some tremendous anthems. I still love hearing that stuff today. I think that you can still enjoy the music, without having to condone a band member's past discretions. Similarly, I remain a big Roxy Music fan, all the way from junior school but I wish nothing but a lingering, painful death on Brian Ferry for his fox hunting associations.

I think whether you can separate the artist from the art is one of the biggest questions out there in music and literature and whatever. I think we want to believe that art is an expressive process and that means that whatever's produced is in some sense a representation of the person. Equally once art is out in the public space its no longer under the artist's control. They don't get to dictate the meaning of a song, or how someone interprets a book, that's for us. A good example is how Sting wrote a song about a dangerous stalker and people saw it as romantic enough to play at their wedding.

It's the tension between those positions that leads to this argument and I think we're all just trying to decide where you draw the line. Like I don't think it's wrong to listen to Gary Glitter but I wouldn't play it at a kid's birthday party and I wouldn't drive past a school with it blaring from my speakers. Not that I'm a fan of Glitter's music, but I do still love some of Mayhem's music and that was written by a convicted murderer.

Really, I just think the line between what's appropriate and where is really messy, and I can't really blame anyone if they think it's a bit distasteful to play Kasabian in a football stadium a day or two after one of them turns out to be an domestic abuser. It's not like there isn't plenty of other music we could play. Plus I still say it's a crap song anyway.

Sadly, we're sorely lacking in the musician department when it comes to famous fans. Most of Sheffield's best musical exports seem to align themselves with the wrong side of the city. Like you say, not much attitude in Paul Heaton's tunes, fantastic as they may be. And Def Leppard are shit, so that's them ruled out.

You're right and on the flip side, most of the city's sports personalities, tend to be United fans. Maybe it's to do with traditional areas of support lending themselves to certain pursuits?

It does always make me think though, they have so many good musicians (no, not you Mr McLure) on that side of the city, but their actual chants in the stands often only amount to two or three words that involve minimal thought.
