I would give the job to Speedo, and appoint a mentor type character as his assistant perhaps Harry Bassett or someone who 'has been around the block' in football management to offer advice and support.
Speed would have the respect of the players, be able to attract the right type of players, the experience of playing at the highest level for many years and the enthusiasm to succeed.
I honestly believe Blackwell is 'going through the motions' and whilst no agreeing with the management of the club keeping quite to draw his money at the end of the month.
Blackwell has openly stated that he is aiming for a top 10 place, lets face it any manager ought to be able to get the Blades into a top ten spot.
We should kick off the season aiming for the top two wether good enough or not!

Wow! Lets do this right away! Speed and Bassett, what a partnership.... they could really take us to the lower end of the table! But hey at least we'd set our aim for top 2

And I just bet you were one of those who screamed for Warnock's head and wanted Blackwell to replace him. Heard it all before - change the record Fiery

As Speedo has never managed before and Bassetts record of success especially at this level is probably second to none where do you get your assumptions from Swiss?
May I remind you that Blackwell has never won a promotion to the Premier League!
Typical reaction from one who hates change!
Wednesday evening proves that nothing has changed at Bramall Lane- Hoofball and no idea!!!
By just sitting back and doing nothing will not attain success!

NO Sheepdip, might have wanted Warnock to go, he had run his course but never, ever wanted Blackwell - He was the cheap option following Robson - never wanted Robson either
If your'e happy with Blackwell -fine! I would like to see more entertaining football for my money when I go to the Lane
I just happen to think things would improve significantly if we had another manager at the helm with fresh ideas, new impetus and enthusiasm and a change in style -not too much to aspire to is it?

Blackwell Quits

All in good time my friend. The penny will start to drop on Saturday when barely 20K push through the turnstiles on BDTBL, followed by what I predict will be a "clueless" performance that see's Paddy turn round to the Kop cupping his hand to his ear as the 3rd QPR goal hit's the back of the Bramall lane end goal.

The penny will finally land with a thunderous noise 3 or 4 games later, (Scunny at home?) when we are languishing in the bottom 6 and there's thousands in the Car Park with their shoes off.

I really can't see anything else!

And you think Basset will bring flowing football to the lane? Speeds been coaching here for over a season, do you not think hes partly responsible for the style we play.

Speed, correct, big gamble.
Bassett was great for us back in the day, but I wouldn't say that his record is "second to none". I certainly wouldn't have him back now in any capacity. Thanks for the memories, great times, but the brand of football was hardly attractive when struggling.

Take a look at his recent record of clubs and success's its hardly rosy...

Speed and Bassett? What type of hoofball would they play then? Would they have an idea? Would they be better than Blackie?

By sitting back and doing nothing will not attain success - Also correct, hence the changes that've been brought in during the summer. 1 league game and a glamour tie v Hartlepool? Where are you getting your assumptions from Fiery?

I'm happy to see how the team gel's and actually I think the philosophy has and is changing at the club... But to go from last seasons aimless dire brand of football to a more effective style won't happen overnight

Think the last two posts from Fiery and Torrix show up where my view is different.

KB doesn't inspire me with confidence - but if his head is going to roll it has to be by KMcC's hand. If the fans drive out a second manager in succession then the club will beome (further) destabilised. I was in the car park when Robson was ousted - he was a crap manager who had sound finances, a well set up club and a strong squad behind him - and he blew it. The situation today is made far more complex by financial matters, opaque transfer dealings, last seasons injuries etc. I don't believe I know enough about what's going on behind the scenes to be confident in wanting KB out.

Secondly - I'm increasingly worried that too many fans are confusing "hopes" with "expectations". Our track record over the last few decades shows we can "expect" to be around the top of the second tier. To "expect" above 4th flies in the face of fact. If too many people have unjustifiably (IMO) opinions, and therefore frustrations with the manager - we become just like Wednesday, Leeds, Forest and others. We become another set of fans who think we're bigger than we are.

Expectations out-strip reality. Frustration builds - managers are fired - and no-one is given the time to stabilse the situation. From there it's a small step to Div 1 and administration (as plenty have shown before)

I'm not overly chuffed with what we saw last year (or getting tonked by bloody Hartlepool for that matter) - but I know that I can't change affairs at the Lane - and I don't think mass protests are either justifiable or in the long-term interest of the club. So I just worry about things I can influence, reconcile myself to the fact that we're not Man U or Chelsea, and enjoy match days with fairly low expectations.

Let KMcC do his job.

Stop being one dimensional Swiss! and Ted Danson to boot!!!
When I suggested Bassett as a mentor I was thinking of the man management skills not his tactics. I am sure Speedo has played football at a high enough level to work out his own tactics !
I am sure the players can play better style football (re: Preston Play OffSemi Final)
but equally I am sure that Speed has no imput on tactics due to the arrogance and belligerance of Blackwell!
I think Speedo is just biding his time until the right managers job comes up and the Blades will let him go!

Ha ha one dimensional? Thats a laugh. But really what did you expect Fiery? You start a thread so that you can have another whinge about Blackie, based upon the same old tripe, disregarding many of the potential improvements since the last season.

All your statements on this thread are assumptions.. give me the facts not an opinion on how you think Blackies running the show.

I'm quite sure there is a lot of input from Blackies team, perhaps more so nowadays as we often see Blackie taking a more subdued role and the likes of Speed stepping forward on match days.

For Bassett as a mentor, again read the recent history of his success' in this arena too!

I also liked your comments about Speed. On one hand you state Blackie is arrogant and doesn't accept input, yet Speed won't use Bassetts tactics because he has his own "high enough level" tactic formulator

Brilliant! You've made my morning

If Speed is the boss he would decide which tactics to use - as coach he can only advise - if Blackwell rejects his advice theres not alot he can do about it!
As regards Bassett - I only used him as an example of a senior football figure with a vast experience of football management but as usual you don't read the full statement - Just pick bits and bobs and make sarcastic comments!
Anf Finally - Where are these potential improvements this year are we talking Kozluk
This time last year we had Kilgallon, Naysmith (albeit injured), Sharp, Reid, Howard, - Replace them with Ertl, Jordan, Britton, Boggy, Same Owd, Same Owd
Only improvement I can see is Simonsen but.......................................................
Remind me Swiss, Hartlepool fast flowing attacking football or Hoof it! I rest my case!

Just out of interest Fiery, could you give me a list of teams that have sacked their manager after one league game in recent years? And out of those, how many have gone on to have successful seasons?

Love it Torrix. It's coming, bring it on - Blackwell Out!!

Have another read at the post you "love". Sounds brilliant. Can't wait.

It was the last bit I was looking forward to (although I aint a carpark person). I prefer the Blackwell Out chants during the game me sen.

I admit that this won't happen unless we take a couple of beatings early on which is an unpleasant thought. More likely is crowd unrest following every hoof downfield, scrapping between Blades in the stands and this is what will finish him off eventually. Lack of entertainment, crowds dwindle and those that remain getting on his back, during the games hopefully. It is all for the best in the medium to long term.

Blackwell Out.

I know it's not a list, however, Norwich did it last year.

True, I hadn't thought of them. Though it's worth pointing out they had just suffered relegation and embarrassing home defeat to their local rivals before sacking him.

Has the two matches to date pointed to anything being any different from last season ?
What makes you think things will be different this year:
We have a better goalkeeper this year - Valid Point
We have predominantely the same players Morgan, Monty, Quinn, Bartley, Nosworthy, Ward, Yeates, Cresswell, Taylor, Henderson, France, Williamson, Evans
We have added Britton (yet to prove) Boggy (yet to prove) Kozluk and Ertl - all free transfers
We have played the same tactics
We have again gone through a match v inferior opposition and managed just one shot and thast coming in the last minute
Forget lists and whose done it before - Blackwell hasn't had one game he's had nearly three seasons and the tripe served up now is getting worse by the week
He whinges and moans squad size, lack of subs on the bench, international matches, cup ties early in the season and listening to him before the game at Hartlepool - he'd lost it before kick off.
He will blame anybody and everybody except himself
He is an arrogant bully who is extremely fortunate to be in a job !
