Stadium and facilities redevelopment post KMC

Perhaps we could rebuild the lane like they have done in Bilboa if the Prince convinces his lot to invest in the Blades rather than the barcodes
 

The biggest problem United have when it comes to redevelopment is Sheffield City Council who have never been helpful to United in the past and the lack of good parking and transport links in Sheffield as a whole. It has always been a ball ache to get in and out of the city centre due to the anti-car council. The train station is a 20min walk same for the trams and the bus service to Bramall lane is abysmal. Talking of buses if Hallam Uni have their way Pond st will be bulldozed to extend the Uni they already own all the land and most of the buildings around there.

Eh? It’s less than 10 mins walk to the station and the tram stop there.

Is there anything they’ve blocked in the last 20 years? From what I can see they’ve approved every planning request we’ve made in that period. Or is this one of these myths based on distant past stuff, kind of like “The Star is biased against us” views?

It might be when you don't have Arthritis in your knees and hips you must have entered the old Star walk pal. The SYPTE journey planner has the nearest tram stop as a 13min walk and from the rail station a 18min walk.

No even McCabe's limited plans were not approved first time around I do believe there are limitations on how high the kop could be rebuilt due to the houses on Shoreham st same on John st we can't build higher or closer to properties due to impacting on the natural light for those houses, few of which are occupied in the day as all the students are in Uni or sleeping off last night hangovers/drugs.

So are you expecting the council to completely disregard national planning policy then? Because they won't break the rules for us, they're against us? Wow!

Our car park is nowhere near big enough. Enjoyed the vid though.

As nice as their new stadium is, it's still a bowl. Once inside, you'd struggle to differentiate between that, the Emerates, Bayern Munich etc. Call me old-fashioned but give me Villa Park, Anfield, St James Park and The Lane any day of the week!

I think City College tram stop is no more than 10 mins walk through the back streets. After crossing the roundabout you follow the River Sheaf (Sheaf Walk) as far as Dutchess Rd, then follow Clough Rd to the ground. Shame the ground isn't signposted at all from City College.
 
Does anyone know whats happening in regards to the “Boundary Corner”. They’ve had them signs up for about a year now, but no work has begun. Not heard anything from the club since it was announced.

I don't, for the simple reason that it wouldn't significantly increase our income. London stadia has a certain appeal for corporate clientele, especially if you're the shiniest and newest but I'm not sure we'd have enough pull for that. Leeds used the Euro 96 money to build a load of new corporate facilities (boxes) and they've hardly been used since.
Simply building it for the fan base is a non-starter, however nice it may seem. If it isn't going to return significant additional income why would they even think about it?

We've also got to consolidate ourselves as a viable top flight club with profile and guaranteed income revenues for that nonsense. I can't see Spurs, Arsenal or any of the other recently bestowed new-stadia clubs dropping out of the top flight and carrying an expensive, half filled asset with them. Even if we would love to see West Ham hosting a recently promoted Championship club with the Olympic Stadium a quarter filled, their risk is minimal because they didn't really have to stump up to buy it. We need to spend a few seasons in the top flight with lots of potential to build big. Think what has happened in the past with the South Stand, John Street and even Le Tout en Cas stand (sorry, the kop) We've floundered and not really gained much by it.

Isn't that the patch of land originally owned by some previous director? I thought - could be wrong - that KMc bought it and for some reason think that the purchase was after the deal with the Prince. Not 100% though.

The parked cars on match days were turfed out pretty quickly after the initial court decision though.

I was more on about building on the current site rather than the type and cost of the new spurs ground, although something of a similar but smaller scale would work. I think your view is shortsighted, it’s about building the brand, and if we continue on this trajectory there’s no reason why we cannot pull in more corporate income especially with the Middle East market we seem to be trying to capture. Comparing Leeds 96 facilities is like comparing apples and oranges, they’ve been in the champ for much of that time and these facilities are now over 20 years old, completely different times.

I love the Blades but work in Leeds and have had to go to Bellend road for events and the odd game/hospitality. The loiners corporate stuff is streets ahead of SUFC both in terms of offering, success and revenue it brings - this is mainly down to the space and facilities they have at their disposal incl a 1000 capacity event hall adjacent to the ground. I know the corporate team at SUFC is really good - some great folk there - but they need modern facilities and the capacity to work with particularly thinking of the late 1970s era south stand with its platinum suite. I know for a fact that corporate money is being left 'not on the table' at SUFC this season as its all booked up, we could probably have taken millions more into the club over the season from matchdays.
They probably need to re-build the south stand and have a separate corporate building for the prawn sandwich brigade as the top revenue earning potential.
I am sure the club will prioritise this growing of the revenue streams first before the 20,000 capacity standing kop (YHIHF)

In all my years of being a Blade, talking to fellow Blades at the game, pub, workplace etc etc I have never heard one single Blade be positive to the idea of leaving Bramall Lane, not one. I said a long time ago the Princes long term goals were to move and an area somewhere near the old Sheffield Airport was the preferred site. This was quickly shot down. Every other mention of a move on this and other forums were quite rightly shot down in flames with everyone united in the fact that Bramall Lane is and will always be our home. We are not moving!

Fast forward to one little tiny bit of success and they are literally ready to sell their soul, or should I say SheffIeld Uniteds soul. Because Uniteds soul is Bramall Lane, once that has gone its gone forever and we will never be the same club. Success comes in roundabouts and we will be in the 2nd maybe even the 3rd tier once again. When the new fans or just those who go in the good times have disappeared I even think the hardcore through thick and thin mob would find it hard to go to a shiny new souless bowl at Attercliffe or wherever to watch 2nd/3rd tier football, I would seriously fear for our future. Now I am not talking anytime soon, maybe not even in my lifetime. But 20/30/40 years down the line if things have gone full circle and history has repeated itself and we have tumbled down the leagues I could see us with 10k turning up. Being at Bramall Lane? that would never happen again in our history and we would still have the crowds turning up and we would climb again, but that is with a beating heart and soul, that is not the owner, manager, players it is Bramall Lane.

I am seriously worried that fans would now sell their soul after a glimpse of success and it would not go unnoticed at owner level. When the moment arrives we need to rise up, protest, protest, and protest some more. Our age group who are alive now owe it to future generations of Blades to never allow us to leave our spirtitual home.

Before West Ham moved to the London Stadium the owners held a poll of fans - just under 12,000 were contacted. Fans were asked to agree with one of six statements, five of which were in favour of a move to various degrees, while only one was against a move under any circumstances. They used the results - only 15% disagreed with a move under any circumstances - as justification to press ahead with the move. Basically, 10,000-odd fans (perhaps a quarter of the fanbase) said that they might be in favour of a move, if the circumstances were right. Soon afterwards they moved to a soulless shithole bowl, changed the club's badge, and branded the team as "West Ham London". (Presuming this is a correct summary HammerInPeace)

If there was ever any serious talk about moving away from the Lane, I'd hope that all fans on the database would be asked their opinion - and the questions wouldn't be skewed in favour of a move. A simple "yes" or "no" would suffice.

I don't think you can really compare West Ham's move with any other football club that have moved. The owners were always going to make it happen as the deal was unbelievable for them e.g. bigger stadium, conversion paid for and cheap rent.

Should a move ever be on the table for us, the circumstances would be completely different and the Prince wouldn't have such a huge incentive to move us.

My point still stands. If it can be proven that any improvements will not only be self funding but actually generate additional income then I've no doubt it will be looked at. However, no proposal based purely on fans wanting a fancier more modern ground is going to fly.
To repeat my original post, if it isn't going to return significant additional income why would they even think about it?

If we had a new owner who was absolutely minted, and had aspirations for us be a top 10 club that regularly competes in Europe, he may see the Lane as a bit shabby and embarrasing - not the kind of place where he'd want to schmooze his rich chums. Ego would play a part with the right (or wrong) owner
