Billy's last minute winner at Peterborough, jumping into the away end as we all went mad. Basham's winner at Leeds, the shock on his face, fans climbing over each other in jubilation. Yesterday Baldock scored and I spent a minute looking at the ref, debating with the man next to me if there was a VAR check. This isn't why I go to away games. An away goal in front of our fans is the highlight of an away day. Football authorities need to respect the fans more.

I went barmy for McGoldrick's goal and then didn't even bother celebrating Baldock's.
This is exactly the problem with var. It is horrible. I am too scared to instantaneously celebrate now. Even last week against Burnley I sort of half jumped up from my seat, gave a half hearted 'yeeees' then spent the next few second starring at the screen to see if var has been called.

It is killing the game as we know it. Bin the fucker now.

Didn’t go yesterday but the celebrations for Baldock’s looked tame. Even watching it at home I was the same. Almost too nervous to celebrate...instantly looking at the ref.

It was the same in the away end at Everton. I barely celebrated our first goal as I was fully expecting it to be ruled out for whatever reason. It’s fucking shit.

In the video on the 23 pass goal on youtube, about two minutes in, Baldock is walking to the half way line. If you lip read him, he says to the ref: "Ref! Is it a goal yet?" Clear as daylight that players also started preserving emotional energy by holding back from celebration to safeguard against crushing disappointment for offences they did not feel or see.

No Spurs player even lifted an arm on Lundstram. Football has a flow and a feel. People know when someone holds the line. McGoldrick's goal was miles from being offside in anybody's mind in that ground. Nobody spontaneously thought "ooh, that was close" when Baldock played a routine throughball. It genuinely takes the fun out of things and leaves you feeling like waiting for bad news at your local GP. No idea what he might bring, but could be shite news.

Awful awful application of what seems to at least moderately work elsewhere....

How they dare wipe out such moments for margins beyond minimal, or even non existent, is astonishing.

Do they not feel any sense of guilt whatsoever?

The spectacle, the flow, the fans, the atmosphere, the passion, the reason we go to football......... none of it could matter any less to them. Fucked up, malfunctioning robots that they are.

Baldock is normally joyous during any of our celebrations, never mind one when he has scored himself.

Yesterday he just looked angry.

On both goals the ref and linesman never thought about VAR . The Spurs goalie was hounding him to check it for the first. The second goal Harry Kane took the role and was asking the ref to check it. Surely this is not what VAR was introduced for so the players can chuck their 2 pennath in and hound the ref for a review. Both Lino and ref where on their way to restart play until they started hounding him.

Isn't he a spurs fan? Part of me blamed it on the VAR stuff but I also took his allegiance into account too.

I never thought about the Spurs link, but yeah you might be right on that mate.

I was focussed on the VAR shit, and useless officiating.

For a split second I actually thought he was going to go all Temuri Ketsbaia on us.

VAR is a god send, however the current version under the FA is a fucking curse from hell. The media, players, managers and fans are all together on this. Only in this country can we fuck up a system that can improve our game. Whoever is fronting this needs the sack.

This would be resolved if, like in cricket and tennis, players were only allowed so many challenges per game .

That’d be Mike Riley then. Cant wait to watch Ref watch with Dermot Gallagher tomorrow. He should be in charge of this farce that is VAR in England.

All goals are checked whether or not Kane asked for it to be.
Yes he is a Spurs fan. He went to Champions League Final with JOC.
He’s a Man U fan.

I have rather disappointingly stopped celebrating goals when watching games since VR. It's a very sad state of affairs and without changing the rules or application of VR, the very nature of celebrating will be lost.

I thought there'd be exceptions to the rule but it appears they're even reviewing footage 30 seconds before goals now so where does it stop?

Maybe it should be that the referee only has one call to use it per half... otherwise, he and his officials should stand by their initial decisions.

VAR is there to correct clear and obvious errors, in the same way as the review system in cricket.

I've read some wanky comments from nerds on twitter saying offside is offside, whether it's an inch or 4 yards. Generally from dickheads who sit in their armchairs and have never seen a live game.

The fact is, in cricket, if an umpire gives a LBW appeal not out and it's reviewed and found to be clipping the stumps .... it's still not out, despite technically still being LBW as it is going to hit the wicket. But a review won't overturn the original decision as it's not a clear and obvious error.

In the same way, if a linesman doesn't flag, and a goal is then scored, there should be an umpire's call in the same way as cricket .... ie there needs to be clear daylight between the attacker and defender for the goal to be chalked off, not a big fucking toe. That is not a clear and obvious error.
