Looking at Saturday's fixture and I'm looking forward to a well earned 3 points. Am I being daft? Is that now the level we are at? Expecting to win at last seasons Champions League Finalists. I just believe in this team and management.
Long may it continue. ⚔️⚔️💕⚽⚽

Tell you what, our “brothers” across the city don’t know what to do with themselves..

“Man Utd are nowt for you lot to worry about, you’ll take them”

This from a bloke who said we’d still go down three weeks ago !

As for us we can smugly just say, one game at a time, we take nothing for granted, it’s the best league in the world we’re in, no easy games etc.. the smug but cautious “fuck you mate” ...

I'm under the same mindset as I've been since Wilder took over. One game at a time. If, by the end of those games, we've won...great. This way, you can't be too disappointed because you're not trying to predict the future too much. Someone said it on another thread but applying the principles of mindfulness and living in the present is a good way to look at it. Lunny also said last night on 5Live the players aren't getting ahead of themselves and nor should the fans.

Here's me. I thought we'd probably spend three seasons in t' championship, this year with the team assembled to have top spot from day one. Ready for next year in the PL and comfortable straight away.

I know absolutely sweet Fanny Adams about precisely nowt.

Loving every minute.

Enjoy the ride. We've definitely had a bit of luck recently with others missing chances (but we are doing a great job of limiting total shots). That'll turn at some point again, like it did v Liverpool.

But after Burnley I'm much more hopeful we can score >1 at home v the "worse" teams.

My expectations are same as they have been for all but the first five or six matches under CW.
We'll turn up, we'll play our game and it'll be bloody enjoyable to watch. Whatever the result, I'll be confident we've put in the effort and played the game in a way I approve of and don't think I've ever asked for more than that.
Loving everything that is happening and long may it continue.

Not from me, 5 points above 17th and we've had a decentish run of fixtures thus far to be fair. History shows that a lot of promoted teams do well at the start of the season then tail off and we have a horrendous run of fxtures coming up in Dec/Jan. Add to that injuries and suspensions which will kick in soon and things can quickly change.

Shit, we're doomed !!

benn, this post just put a big grin on my face as it reminded me of my first week in a new job several years ago. I attended my first management meeting during which the sales manager started to speak with “Look, I know....” at which point the MD immediately cut him off with “You know....you know...I’ll tell you what you know...you know f*ck all about f*ck all”. Priceless, I had to bite both cheeks and tongue to stop myself laughing out loud 🤣🤣

I think there is real sense that Burnley was a turning point. Our performances to date have been very solid defensively but lacking the attacking intensity that was great last season. Mousset and mcgoldrick have at last looked like an attacking partnership that can deliver. Whatever they say getting to 6th at this point must have galavanised confidence and largely eliminated the unhelpful consequences of excessive respect and self doubt. If we can stay injury free I see no reason that our form can't improve further. This is a wonderful and special time to be a Blade and the difficulty is adjusting expectations conditioned by long periods of disappointment and the perceived wisdom of who can succeed in the prem with reality that we have a highly competitive team. Or to put it another way the players have got balls and so should we.

This is the mentality that CW has implemented into the squad and to us as fans. We are going for the win and we know that’s the plan. If we fall short then we hope it’s not down to lack of effort.

If we get outplayed / lose / draw etc we work on what we did wrong and try and win the next game.

It’s CW ethos that has done everything for us.

My only expectation is that our players give 100% if they do that we can take points of any team.
I’m optimistic rather than expectant.
I’d take a draw against spurs away any day.

John Fleck on a recent interview also came across very laid back about the initial success in the Premier league.

Having said that you can see the players are far more relaxed than at the start of the season. The way we really took the game to Burnley is how we've been in the past 3 seasons and compares favourably to our opening home game against Palace when I thought we were a shade 'cagey' in our approach.

I think opposite to those who think we'll fade away. As the season progresses we'll grow in confidence and the second half of the season could prove better than these first 11 games.

Wow! That sounds like an interesting place to work! Either the banter is really good, or, the MD is walking a tightrope. You just can't say those things in the workplace anymore, well, you can, but you risk an employee putting a claim in for bullying or harassment, which could cost the company an awful lot of money. I wouldn't risk that tbh - even if I was best of mates with the sales manager. It could be used against him by any of the other people in the room at the time. And, it's unprofessional.

The December fixtures are only horrendous if we lose them. 5 games are against teams expected to finish bottom half - Villa, Norwich, Newcastle, Watford, Brighton.
Win 3 or 4 of them and we're more than on course.

Injuries could play a huge factor though.
If we lose 1 or 2 players together we 'should' be ok, 3, 4+ and the spine of the team starts to crack.
Lose 2 defenders or 2 midfielders at the same time though and we're fucked - Bash and JOC out at same time for example.

This was about 15 years ago.....He fell off the tightrope........well he was pushed off actually (was it you representing a different employee).

In answer to the OP - I don't think expectations are now too high. I think they were far too low by the majority of fans at the start of the season, but I don't think they are too high now. I think most fans just expect us to give all teams a good game and be competitive. And that's what we are doing. We'll have games where we drop points and draw or lose, when maybe we should have won. We'll have games where key decisions go against us or we have rotten luck. But I'm not expecting any games where we get absolutely played off the park for 90+ minutes. We've earned the right to be at this level on merit - and we are showing that we are capable of competing at this level.

3 weeks ago if we had lost we'd have been in the bottom 6. We've achieved nothing yet, but 11 games played is a pretty fair marker of how we are doing and I can't see us suddenly changing the way we play. I still think a 10th-12th position finish is on the cards - but it could be higher than that, particularly if we are able to get a bit more attacking goal threat in the team.

I reckon December is our easiest month of the season - without wishing to tempt fate if course!!

Interesting! No it wasn't me mate! I'm not a lawyer. But I have had positions of responsibility in various big corporations and I've seen a big change in the workplace over the years. There were times when I'd have had similar banter with staff, but absolutely no way would I risk any of that now, not even with my best mates on a night out, never mind in a company meeting. I won't bore you with the details, but I once had a member of staff claim I'd said something in a meeting which upset her. There were 8 other people in that meeting, no-one else heard anything. She was not a natural English speaker, so there may have been some misunderstanding/misinterpretation of what I'd said. But she took it all the way to HR. HR reached an agreement with her, and paid her off to leave. A year later she was re-employed again and a year after that she was up to the same old tricks with another manager. - claiming something had been said in a meeting which upset her - and claiming compensation for not being able to work there anymore.

There are some dangerous people out there!

Ah.....you’re the ex CEO of McDs 🤔

As things stand, not expecting anything except any team that beats this group under this management team will have A deserved it, for they will have worked as hard as the Blades and B left knowing they have been in a game and on the whole will have gained a little respect for United,
I don't think it's that the fans expect to win, more they understand that it's hard to beat such a unified team, greater than sum of the parts kind of thing and the fact we are still learning fans, players and management alike, league 1 started terrible, championship started terrible, in both cases learnt, adapted and improved, premier league although lost a couple, still a far better start than most envisioned, so if we do as before and improve adap t and learn, the sky truly is the limit, in truth who should really bet against messers wilder and knill?

With this management team and group of players, expectation can never be too high.
We will suffer setbacks of course, but we will meet and overcome more challenges then we fail.

Expectations are now high. We will know they are too high if we lose at Spurs and the forum goes into meltdown. As several have said- enjoy the ride.

Football and the world today in general is too polarised.

Look at politics or any debate. The further people go to one side the less chance they have if getting anything close to what they want.

Some fans are falling over themselves having ejaculated into their Costco Kirkland boxers already telling people they knew we'd take the League by storm etc etc.

Why can't people just live in the moment and enjoy the games as they come without getting too carried away or looking for impending doom.

Feet on the ground, one game at a time just like the boys on the pitch. We know we are good enough on our day if we play our way.

I think it winds the Pork up more that we arnt getting carried away with ourselves. if they were in our situation they would already be booking the Champions League cup engraver and hotels in timbuktu or wherever it will be held.

Kinnell that's just spooky. Had me looking round for cameras that did.

Get the necessary points to stay up then build on it, anything else is a bonus we're doing well but we're never gunna win it as long as we give good account of ourselves can't ask much more.

It's really, really hard not to though 😀
