Underwhelmed

Why not just hold your hands up and say, "wow, I was wrong there, wasn't I?" and add a couple of silly emoji things? The thread shows plenty of people had the exact opposite view - the worst thing you can do now is try and justify yourself, it makes you look surly and unable to admit a mistake.

I have said on numerous threads over the last three years how delighted I am to be proved wrong over the Wilder appointment.

I could show you a few great sages on here who thought David Weir was the right man at the time he was appointed but going back and bumping those threads back up would be petty and pointless in my humble opinion.

Interesting.

I don't normally have beefs with most of your posts on here but if you're going to resurrect an old post with a single comment that some might take to be a snide dig at the OP, then is it any wonder that many posters on here ridicule you? Why was it interesting? Because zablade got it wrong and you just had to call him out to embarrass or ridicule him? The only thing he said that was wrong (IMO) was that Wilder did nothing in his early years. I believe that during those years he was learning his craft not only on the training and playing pitch, but also in dealing with the money men and knowing when to stand up to them for good effect. Nothing wrong with zablade having his opinion; my pointing out my opinion would not have brought the man out on trial as you have done. You're probably in my age range Woodwardfan - may I suggest you act it and stick to some of the quality posts you can, from time to time, produce?

Proving people wrong is the main MO of a few on here tbf

MY GOD zablade. Did you not realise that Wilder was going to be a success? Wasn't it blatantly obvious that he was going to:

  • Win league one
  • Amass a hundred points
  • Get two players in the L1 team of the year (scandalously low, btw)
  • Get Billy 30 goals and the L1 golden boot
  • Stay in the championship
  • Regain bragging rights for the city
  • Win promotion from the Championship in only his second season
  • Get Billy to the top EFL scorer of the century
  • Help Henderson get the Golden Glove award
  • Get two players in the championship team of the year
  • Get Championship manager of the year
  • Get LMA manager of the year
  • And finally, since becoming our manager in 2016, finish second in the total amount of points amassed across all four divisions, behind only Manchester City and Pep Guardiola.
Did you not see that coming, Za?!? God. Try backing the club a little, eh? You MORON.

I know foolish of me.

Should have placed the obvious accumulator on all that and be posting this reply from my holiday home in the Maldives.

I am totally convinced Wilder will be a success in the Premier League. In truth it's a new situation for him as well. I believe we will finish about 15th. With hopefully gradual improvements year on year. Hopefully we will then start to really develop the academy players and maybe in the future we will only need to buy one or two players each year to benefit the squad.

Apart from all of this, what has Wilder actually done?

It was fair comment at the time. Plenty of people were just completely pissed off with everything at the Lane and appointing a bloke who’d never managed above L2, when a manager who’d taken a team from L1 to the PL had just failed, didn’t seem like a stellar option.

I remember this thread and I remember reading some of the positive responses (including the one from the Cobbler) and thinking ‘yeah, they’ve got a point, might be OK’. That’s one of the points of a message board, to share opinions and challenge those you disagree with. Several posters set out a good argument for Wilder. Happily they were right.

I just hate the fact I can't grumble about anything much , been going 58 years and only time felt like this was under John Harris ☹ long live bladey bladeness 🤣🤣🤣🤣
And remember how he showed a total lack of ambition by signing cheap journeymen who had never played at a high enough level from clubs like Workington, Chester, Shrewsbury, Wrexham and Newport 😄😄😄

Forgot about that 😇

That may be your opinion and the opinion of many others, but the fact is someone brought it back up and a better response would have been to hold your hands up, take it on the chin, make a lighthearted reply, etc., than stick your bottom lip out and stomp off with a "ffs". You surely have to know that everything you say on here is lying there waiting for someone to bring it back up one day - if you don't like that then you probably shouldn't post.

100% of what's posted is opinion of which at least half is bollocks.
If everyone did as you suggest there'd be no forums and more importantly no conversation.
The problem is not folk posting what they think it's smug wankers pulling them up with the benefit of hindsight and being judgemental. Small dick syndrome.

If everyone took it on the chin and replied with a lighthearted comment when they are reminded they got something wrong, there would be no forums?
Am I allowed to point out that you've got that one wrong?

During the last couple of games under Atkins I felt at my all time low supporting the Blades (and yes, I do remember the Don Givens 'penalty'!) I'd still renewed my season ticket, but I must admit I was thinking .... there must be better things I could be doing with my time than coming to the Lane on a freezing cold winters night and watching that shower of shite under Adkins. (That Scunthorpe game :oops: ffs!)

When we appointed Wilder my mood started to change. It wasn't really his past record, it was his enthusiasm and 'saying it how it was' type attitude. I just felt that finally we had got one of our own. He would run through brick walls for the club, so I was pretty confident his players would run through brick walls for him.

I never in a million years believed we'd be where we are now so quickly. But I am full of confidence for next season. I can see us quite comfortably staying up ... perhaps ending up on about 45 points. 🙏🙏

Cobbler here , gutted to have lost wilder but going to you guys has eased the pain , it was no secret he wanted this job , he will get you promoted and if you want an example of passion check out his post match speech after notts county away on you tube .The bloke is a ledgend , good luck in your promotion ,would love to see him manage you in the prem

Well you called that right! Any chance of giving us the lottery numbers for this week? 😁

Who was the Wrexham player?
The others Bert can remember.

Very ironic someone called Johnson quoting small dick syndrome 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

That contains so much nonsense it’s Not even worth dignifying with a reply.

Whilst obviously za and many others were very wrong, it's an opinion.

It's those who don't have any opinions who are the types to bump threads like this or give it the high and mighty act. Sad.

I enjoy the odd thread bump like this so long as no one rubs the poster's nose in it. Pretty harmless really.

Does show though how people occasionally judge to early or let their knee jerk without any resistance. Amazing how many players (or managers) get written off before they'd had a proper chance.
